Services That Attract Most Comments on FriendFeed - http://socialmedia.typepad.com/blog...
Interesting. I wouldn't have expected Delicious to beat out Twitter in volume. It's also interesting that the average number of comments is less than 5 on all services. Lots of stuff gets zero discussion or conversation going. - Mark Trapp
Great analysis, Akshay! - Hao Chen
Very nice, thanks for sharing. What's surprising to me is the large percentage of posts from StumbleUpon, which I see little of from the folks I follow. - jcunwired
I was surprised by del.icio.us as well -- but my guess is that a lot of people post multiple updates to delicious. Indeed I suspect that there is a long tail distribution in comments and in such data average makes sense as an indicator at the very least. Also please note that the data is not normalized for multiple updates from a single user. - FallStreet
I think del.icio.us is up there because many people add notes to their bookmarks, which count as a comment in FriendFeed. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
The same is true for Disqus, StumbleUpon, and others - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Shey, good point. - Kevin Bondelli
Akshay - this really cool. And +1 Shey. I see those comments passed through to del.icio.us all the time, and they look just like comments posted within FriendFeed. - Hutch Carpenter
Great article, and surprised, too: Didn't expected that about del.icio.us - George The Writer
I think what is most surprising here is how little attention blog posts get until they are ultimately shared back through reader or delicious. I think FF should find a way to aggregate multiple shares as Likes via digg, delicious, Reader, etc. so that conversation can flow around the original content source without fragmenting into multiple conversations. - Derick Valadao
Very interesting analysis, while reading your post I started wondering if there trends would be the same for likes as it was for comments. Would it be difficult to do the same thing for likes? - John Duff
Derick, thats a good point. I have often felt that conversations get fragmented on FF. A good aggregation would really help. Also some widget that could find all the conversations on FF and show it along with my post on my blog would be ideal. John, Fantastic point. I have the data on likes. I will try to do some quick queries and get back to you! - FallStreet
John, Thanks for the question. I have posted a follow up! - FallStreet
Just saw it in google reader, very interesting stuff you've been doing! - John Duff
Akshay: I get wary of throwing suggestions into friendfeed as that's how ideas and products get started without the original suggestion being credited. This one, however, is free ;). I'd love to see the FF api retooled to aggregate by title linking back to the original blog. It's a bit of a pain to see a fantastic article on reader, share it, and then search for it on FF in order to comment on it (because my shared note will be lost due to a low subscription count). Hopefully somebody is listening to this one :) - Derick Valadao
