How can Daft Punk "Alive" be the greatest LIVE album ever? it's all samples and loops! Aside from a few tweaks, their just playing back their own record. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate what Daft Punk does, but I think you're missing the whole concept of live albums. You should really take the time to listen to more live albums before making such a bold statement.

Come on. Jay Rosen clearly debunked this silly notion a while back. ne does not have to have a full manifesto in Twitter. Write the "headline" for said manifesto, and provide the link to where the meat of the matter is, usually on a blog. There should be no change.

Why on earth would it? That perceived barrier is a boon to SMS users and part of the driving value of Twitter for me. If they wipe it out and lost that SMS joy, Twitter will cease to have the same value for me, and many others. Not all to be sure. I hope they don't fall for the illusion of more.

I think Twitter's brevity is useful. There are other resources that do long-form messages better. If one regularly tweets more than 140 characters at a time, why not start a blog?

The SMS function gave Twitter its edge and set it aside from everything else by making it easy for anyone with a cell phone. Take that away and Twitter is just another blogging platform. Isn't blogging dead anyway?

I like Last.fm, but I had to abandon it due to it's mediocre client for OS X. It used 100% CPU when nothing was happening, and it just wasn't worth it for my 1.25Ghz PowerBook.

I seldom buy coffee out, but that is because I am mostly at home, and make coffee at home each morning. When I got to visit a client I usually take a thermal mug of it with me. If I do go to Starbucks I almost always buy a regular $1.80 venti. I want coffee, not a mug of foam or flavored gloop. As for McDonalds, I don't eat the junk they make out is food, so I'm not likely to go in there for cofee either.

Oh, BTW, I don't think Starbucks coffee is anything particularly special, but it's quite acceptable, and it could be a whole lot worse. Most corporate food and drink outlets are much more mediocre than Starbucks is.

McD devestated starbucks when they upgraded their coffee. they figured out that a lot of people used to go to starbucks and mcd while driving to work. now you can just go to one place, and it is good enough. I personally know people who get to work faster (wake up later), and only drink McD's coffee now because of what this type of marketing. it maters.

It's a good job people aren't like me. I never did buy a coffee when I drove to an office. I always made a pot at home, and saved enough in a week, to buy good coffee beans for the next week! Same with breakfast, and I wouldn't eat in McD if it was the only place in town. The worst of the fast food junk ever.

mcd coffee is good, learned that from long roadtrips across america and there are lots more mcd's than sb's, but i like sb's for computer work while away from home, wouldn't want to hang in mcd's -- too bight, noisy, kids, they smell bad like cheap burgerz.

Someone I was doing work for a few weeks back, asked me if I'd like a coffee, and I said yes, and he came back with some from Dunkin' Donuts. It was really awful crap, like hot water, but with a mild stewed taste. I don't eat fast food, so I don't know what it's like in other places but this was truly yuck.

Starbuck's coffee is awful, IMO. McDonald's coffee is good. Panera's coffee is better. My own brew, at home, is the best. :) (Oh, and the free coffee at work is almost as bad as Starbuck's! But it's $4 less than Starbuck's, so it's slightly better!)

Best ad ever. 4 bucks for a coffee is really isanely dumb. And Dave, I don't know about them in the US. Here in Europe the cheapest coffee at SB is €3.10 Euro. This is about $4.13. It's ridiculous. McD starts at €1.70 Euro, and even that I consider too much. There are stores for €1.00 everywhere, with good, premium coffee.

I'd love to see variations of this ad gain popularity. "Spending $300 on a handbag is really stupid." "Paying $180 for $1.37 of material is pretty lame." "Paying $600 for a wristwatch is uber-stupid" and so on. Then again, I'm pretty un-brand conscious (cynics would amend that to "unfashion-conscious" or worse "unconscious when it comes to style"), so take that all with a few grains of salt :P

Gabe, such ads are nothing new. Look at MAC vs. PC ads. Same there. But I must say, that slogan is 100% correct. Four bucks for a coffee is stupid. Sorry, but thats the way I see it. I just see Bart Simpsons at the paydesk in SB "You think you're cool because you buy a coffee for 4 bucks? They cost 20 Cents to make and I pee in every one." :)

It all comes down to what you like. Buying coffee at McDonald's is like drinking a Coors or Bud. Sure it'll do in a pinch, but if you really like good beer you're going to drink something with flavor. Since Starbuck's has become the McDonalds of coffee that argument may not hold much water, but that's how I see it. You get what you pay for.

Rob, some flavored coffee-like drinks, I do not even consider calling that a real coffee. At last in europe, McD uses regular premium coffee, which is extraordinary good. You can get flavored coffee-drinks there, too. Starsucks is for arrogant snobs with too much money.

In the past year Starbucks bought Clover which makes a unique coffeemaker designed for light roasted, usually quite unique coffees. They had previously been mostly in independent cafes but have now been added to many Starbucks. Very good coffee (if not cheap). Also there is a world of truly good coffee - akin to fine aged French wine - McD is cheap boxed wine in comparison.

Shannon: That's absolutely not correct, like I said, at last in Europe. McD use high premium coffees, Starbucks can not compete with. The coffee culture here, especially in Germany are on high levels. Germans get shocked when travelling the USA and drink something that named coffee there. Same with the french. Maybe McDonalds use other coffee in the US, but in Germany they use one of the best coffee around. Starsucks tastes like pee in comparison.

Ryo, I'm not saying that Starbucks is find wine (though their Clover coffees are quite good) but am more referring to the "Third Wave" coffee movement here in the US (Blue Bottle, Ritual Roasters, Four Barrel Coffee in SF; Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago & LA, Stumptown in Portland etc). Which are cafes which typically import their own beans, roast them themselves, and prepare them with extremely high levels of skill (often matching machines & techniques carefully to the beans)

Shannon, okay. The last sentence did made my comment go round :) "McD is cheap boxed wine in comparison"... That was bugging me, because it is a good wine in comparission to the "real coffee" makers. In comparision to Starbucks it's like real coffee at McD vs. coffee-something dark brown water. Of course McD can't compete with the special coffee sorts which has been roasted and treated very special. But this stuff, I usaually brew at home. Starbucks is obsolete in any way.

You're right, the App Store rules are definitely inhibiting the release. But I'm really mad that they have a giant icon on their site that says "Qik now on the iPhone!" when they haven't released it or said anything about a potential release time.

@scobleizer - yep. I am using the Facebook FF app. So people can use it to put themselves on my Friends list? Or is it a bug? The people who appear are quite random - some of them haven't even configured FF, which makes me think it's a bug.

I've said this already on some blogs asking about Twitter monetization model and this looks to address the same issue - Twitter may not have the monetization model but apparently they have enough money to finance some good development (or refactoring) so the money definitely is not going to fix the problem for them. Jaiku did get sms support, few months ago. Plurk is cumbersome. Jaiku has google's backing... how often does your gmail go down? gcal? analytics? etc? I'm not saying it's perfect but it's a shitload better/more stable than the alternatives from what I've seen.
