OMG I can't believe Bill Gates just released a swarm of mosquitos into the crowd at TED, sez "not only poor ppl should experience this!" WOW
I know! I just wonder if they were disease ridden! - Clay Newton
I saw the tweets about this, but I thought they were figurative, not real. Holy cow. - Gregory Pittman from twhirl
Sorry... I grew up in Minnesota - big deal 40 or 50 mosquitoes. - Brian Roy
Brilliant! - Patricia
Zol. - ralphsaunders from twhirl
What's the point?! - `aziz´ Alihan ÇETİN
Alihan: he was trying to get people to care about mosquitos, which spread disease around the world. - Robert Scoble
Somebody should have sprayed some insecticide, and explained how that could help the situation. Oh goodness the drama. - Spencer
there is great fix for those things, it's called DDT - Christian Burns
Mosquitos carry all kinds of diseases..I guess he wants to unload his riches in the courts too - Bwana ☠
DDT shouldn't be used for human reproduction. For every study on DDT, there is another that refutes it. - Robert Hafer
The simplest solution for malaria are bed nets. Just providing bed nets to all the kids in malarial zones would drastically cut down on incidents of the disease. - Alex Scoble
There are also people like me who never get bit by the nasty critters. Maybe a little genetic defacement is in order? - Todd Hoff
Lindsey - I mean DDT is no substitute for Viagra. - Robert Hafer
Please tell me there is video. - Sonya Smith
Sonya: all TED Talks are recorded, but the videos usually come out over the next year at http://www.ted.com/ - Robert Scoble
He has the ultimate experience in the distribution of bugs. A master indeed :-) Now available to nearly all. Perhaps later in a $150 computer. Couldn't resist. But I agree that his global efforts in health are exceptional. - iSteeve
Gates Guerrilla Theater how outside the box is that? Have to admit that wow my respect just went up for him. - Phil Boiarski
Alex: spot on. DDT is nothing to mess with. Lindsey you are correct. It belongs to the organo-chlorines class of chemicals and these are known endocrine disruptors. That and other organo-chlorines are responsible for hermaphroditic offspring in large species such as alligators. It is lazy and violent solution to situation. Mosquito netting does work. - Melanie Reed
Lindsey - I wouldn't know anything about tiny penises. :) - Robert Hafer
What an asshole - Dave Winer
Bill has been getting spectacularly bad advice on how to behave in public for some time now... remember the Seinfeld 'shoe' shtick? - Chris Gulker
Alex got it spot on earlier.... Mosquito Nets are perhaps the cheapest and most effective intervention to improving health in these regions. Malaria is the number one killer of Refugees in Africa (women and children are especially at risk of infection) .... the cost of a net is a couple dollars....even counting distribution costs etc. a net can be provided where and when its needed (just before breeding season) for about $10 per person.... Nothing but Nets Campaign...http://www.nothingbutnets.net/ - David HC Soul
On another front, in September Gates announced that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation would provide $168.7 million to the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative to help develop a vaccine for the deadly disease. .... prevention and cure....both should be tackled, but only one (Nets) gives immediate results. - David HC Soul

Wow, I just noticed the latest PicLens viewer works in FF. Is that new?
PicLens has been compatible with FF for sometime now and it even works on the latest FF at this point! - Cooliris
Very slick, indeed! - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ

PicLens for Firefox. Awesome. Period. - http://anzman.blogspot.com/2008...
I've been playing on my iMac 24" with Piclens since installing Firefox 3. Can't get any work done! Wow. - Kate Foy
is this the same app that was on Safari a few years ago ? It sounds familiar - Jamie
Jamie, I think it is available on Safari for memory - Duncan Riley
I am a big fan of PicLens too. My kids watch cartoons with it from YouTube. It is the simplest and sleekest YouTube browser ever. - Mikko Alasaarela

[scribkin] The 6 Best Ways to Rock FriendFeed
Useful advice as I try to make FF my new Twitter. There's lots to understand about the FF interface. Anyone else have any "secret" tips/? - Leo Laporte
My mobile app of choice: http://fftogo.com - Bwana ☠
I can't seem to find it, but there's a Windows Twitter to FriendFeed converter script that will send invites to all your Twitter friends to subscribe to your FriendFeed. - Jesse Stay from twhirl
Thanks for linking up my article, Leo! - Phil G
Jesse: Not sure about the script you're referring to but this script - http://internetducttape.com/2008... - will add your Twitter friends to FF. I've been meaning to run it but haven't yet. I'll do it tonight and report back. - Leo Laporte
That's cool Bwana - for iPhone users - anyone have a Blackberry FF client? - Leo Laporte
Jesse, I think you are talking about Internet Duct Tape's Twitter to FriendFeed importer: http://internetducttape.com/2008... - Phil G
Leo, also if you're a Greasemonkey user, I highly recommend bookmarking http://ffapps.com - Bwana ☠
Leo, here's another handy Greasemonkey script for filtering your FF stream by service http://snurl.com/2en81 e.g. view only Flickr, view only Tumblr, etc. - Mike Doeff
@Leo, http://fftogo.com is a decent friendfeed blackberry client. I do not use it much but it is way better anything else I have seen. - Rob Diana
Leo: fftogo works well on the blackberry (so I've heard) but you need to change your font size in fftogo (scroll to the bottom and click on settings). I'm the developer for fftogo so if you want any improvements I'm your man. - Benjamin Golub from fftogo
So it does, Benjamin - but I hate going to the BB browser. What font size works best? Trying 9 right now. - Leo Laporte
I'm not sure since I don't have a BB but I've heard that the default (which works great on my Moto Q9c) is way too big on the BB. - Benjamin Golub
@bgolub thanks for implementing font size :) - Alex Gawley
Just joining FF, it's different but it does seem nice and simple =) - John Tyra
Lots of folks who have not used the "hide" feature have not seen the options available. I love the g-monkey script tabs, but hey -- why not also try what's already here. BTW, here's Duncan Riley's great index of FF tabs: http://userscripts.org/users... - Dan Covington
This post has helped me to understand FriendFeed better than anything else I've read. Thanks. - Larry Huffman
Good, common-sensical ways to be relevant and get the most from FriendFeed - Ron Emrick from Alert Thingy
Font size change helps on BB Pearl. Tks! - Tom from fftogo

Another FriendFeed Fix-it Day - http://blog.friendfeed.com/2008...
Among other things, we added support for five more services. You can now add Intense Debate, brightkite.com, Diigo, Mister Wong, and tipjoy to your feed. - Bret Taylor
Diigo added - nice. - Hutch Carpenter
These are nice additions. Keep up the good work, FF folks! - Mikko Alasaarela from twhirl
bah. Still max 300 entries (i.e. 11th page bug) - good fixes, nonetheless, thanks! :) - Tim Hoeck
Great stuff indeed. - Tsega Dinka
Excellent enhancements. - Mike Fruchter
Tim: If you use "num=100", you can see entries #300-399. Also, "search by service" will allow you to go deeper... - Mitchell Tsai
i likes the new features - Tyler Gillies from twhirl
very good job. i love you guys! - Tyler Gillies
Yay for Diigo! - Michael C. Harris
tried to import my Mister Wong account, but an error message appeared: We could not find given account. - Baard @ Pixum
Baard, what is the url of your Mister Wong page? - Paul Buchheit
Yep, suppressing the twitter entry for a comment tweet is an excellent move - Colin Walker from fftogo
Excellent work, and great additions as well! - Joe Dawson
I'm looking forward to working with the newly formatted RSS. It was a pain before. - Duncan Riley
Nice, might give FF some more traction in Germany, as Mister Wong is rather popular here. - Thomas Frütel
if you guys did this all in one day, then I am supremely impressed. :) - Lou Paglia
Thanks for adding Intense Debate..you guys made my month. Also, the feeds are so much better now!! - Bwana ☠
"The given URL does not appear to be a Intense Debate profile page" nooo - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Thanks for adding brightkite, now if Duncan can add a new script to have brightkite show up in my friendfeed window. - Jon Erickson from twhirl
I really like that FF can spend time fixing bugs and adding small features instead of spending continuous effort trying to keep the service running for more than 5 minutes (and mostly failing it seems) - Brian Sullivan
Hmmm, your profile is coming up fine for me Shey.. weird - Bwana ☠
sphinn.com has about 20,000 members who'd like to be supported, Bret. last I asked FF, you all said you weren't adding more services. Now you are. C'mon, show us some love over there. - dannysullivan
@Bwana yes my page is working but it was FF that gave me that error - Shey, Jamaican of FF
@Shey Oh..well...darn....that sucks. Maybe it's the initial rush and ID is crapping out somehow on their end.. I added mine yesterday when hardly anyone knew.. :( - Bwana ☠
I'm with Danny, I would love to see Sphinn on FF! If I could get them added, I would be able to be more active in the sphinn community. - Mark Frost from twhirl
@Danny, you can add your Sphinn activity to FF by importing it as your "blog." Importing a Sphinn feed like http://sphinn.com/rss... will show everything on FF that the Sphinn feed shows. As Sphinn's feed capabilities grow, so will the Sphinn presence on FF. (Not exactly addressing your point of being ignored, but it is a partial workaround.) - Erik Dafforn
Danny, what are all the relevant Sphinn feeds? I can take a look at adding the service. Also, if the content is right (no "16 Vote(s)", comments should include the comment, etc), then they can be imported as comments here, just as with Mixx, Reddit, etc. - Paul Buchheit
Amazing. - Aaron Myers
Can we add Toluu? I would like to keep track of interesting new feeds peeps are adding - Dom
Baard, try again -- Mister Wong should now be fixed. - Paul Buchheit
congrats, but as i've been blogging and otherwise messaging, you really need to focus on the features over the new sites... commenting = broken. liking = meh. etc. - Jeremy Toeman
Thanks for all the hard work FF team!! neat improvements, fixes and tweaks! =) - Susan Beebe
thanks, Paul. Mister Wing is now working :-) - Baard @ Pixum
Thanks. The Diigo add is mucho appreciated. - Bill Bittner
