"Professor Steve Jones, of University College London, says the forces driving evolution - such as natural selection and genetic mutation - no longer play an important role in our lives. The people living one million years from now, should Man survive, will resemble modern-day humans."

interesting take on evolution. there is also a very nice book written by Nobel laureate Erwin Schroedinger after the WW2, "What Is Life," where he also argues that evolution stopped. Main reason is too much interference where it should be left to nature.

Duh! Punctuated equilibrium and all. Evolution is full of dead branches. We be just one of them.

Moreover, evolution is a semi-plausible conjecture :) it is not a proven theory!! I say semi-plausible because the theory has many gaps by failing to explain quite a few pieces of empirical data.
