"Thanks Luke. Given that I’m using the built-in FxScript language, all I can tell you is that the script is called 50 times each second (1080i50) and positions the text based on the frame count (which gets supplied to my script as a number 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etc.) the maths I do positions the text vertically based on this number. Final Cut takes the full frame output of the script and updates each field alternately. This might be where the shimmering is happening. Have you tried putting the credits roll in a 1080p25 version of the sequence? This will only update the credit scroll once every frame of course. If there isn’t too much strobing, export a QuickTime movie and import it into your 1080i sequence. If this improves your result, I’ll create a version of the the plugin with a checkbox option to only update the credits scroll every frame instead of every field in interlaced sequences." - Alex Gollner

"Yes, you need Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express. If you have AvId on the same system, you can render the credits in a Avid codec sequence, export the QuickTime and use it in Avid." - Alex Gollner

"I tried it just now. As the file is only 8.5K, it downloaded very quickly. If you are using Safari, check the Downloads window to see if 'Alex4D_closing_credits_v1.01.zip' was downloaded when you clicked the link. If not, try pasting the following into your address bar:http://www.alex4d.com/plugins..." - Alex Gollner

"Not specifically… yet. However, you can create this effect by adding two instances of the plugin on top of the one you already have. At the moment, if you don’t include an asterisk in the text, it will be centred, so you can use the two centred styles of text in each generator to get what you want." - Alex Gollner

"This repost reminds me of the satirical 50s song “I can’t get adjusted to the you that’s got adjusted to me” – a reason why characters might revert back to the way they were. I wonder of some people might see The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that way. At the end of ‘Spirited Away’ Hayao Miyazaki has said that the heroine and her parents have no memory of the events of the film. In a way, they have had reverse arcs too. In this case they had instant reversions." - Alex Gollner

Clicker Raises Another $11 Million To Become The TV Guide Of Online Video - http://techcrunch.com/2010...
"clicker.com is another internet site that is for US domestic users only. Seems a little short-sighted. Their proposal sounds old-fashioned when you put it this way: “The TV Guide to video hosted in the US that can be watched in the US” clicker.com states ‘Doctor Who is unavailable online’. That’s incorrect. My first test of such a site is whether it determines my location so it can deliver results that are relevant to me." - Alex Gollner

"Sadly I don’t think there was an ‘Absolut Underground’ poster in the series, it was an idea I had, although I think a few other people have noticed that the Paul E. Garbutt design of the map (from the 60s) shows the Circle line in the shape of a drinking flask." - Alex Gollner

Final Cut plugin: Text crawl - http://alex4d.wordpress.com/2009...
"The readability of crawling text depends on many things. These can be divided into two things: firstly, the design choices you have to do with typeface, type size, colour, background for the text and speed. Also however good things look in Final Cut, you need to choose the correct settings for compression so that online video services don't mess up your movies. They're designed primarily to make video look good, the low-bandwidth codecs aren't optimised to deal with moving text.I assume that the design phase is the problem here. All my plugin does is animate text using the settings you specify. The slower the text is moving, the larger the text is, the more contrast compared with the background, the easier it will be to read. Unfortunately there's no real way for my plugin to make the majority of settings combinations look great. I wish I could make it work like that." - Alex Gollner

"The character limit applies per line of source text. If you insert a 'return' in the source before the 2310th character, then the limit will increase. Although you may have had returns in the source application (the place where you copied your source text from), you need to insert extra returns in the plugin controls window itself." - Alex Gollner

"Well, all the plugin does is move the text up at speeds that you choose by keyframe, from in to out or by speed in pixels per second. Any other effect comes from what speed you choose alongside typeface, typesize, colour and emphasis. You may need to make the type larger, or move more slowly. It also depends on the resolution of final output. That's why there are companies out there who only spend their time doing end credit scrolls. This plugin goes some way towards giving you a tool to try out all the options. There isn't a way for me to make a plugin that looks at the words you want to scroll and pick the correct typeface, size, speed and colour to make it look good. You'll just have to try to change settings until it works. If possible, don't work on interlaced timelines - as well as looking bad, it is hard to make small, slow-moving type work on standard interlaced PAL, NTSC, 720i or 1080i timelines." - Alex Gollner

Final Cut Pro: Free plugins to make all fonts available - http://alex4d.wordpress.com/2008...
"If you don't have Final Cut Pro, putting the plugins in Final Cut Pro System Support wont work.As you'll see in a previous comment, try installing them inYour HD name/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/PluginsIf it installs correctly, you will see new generators in the Text section. In these generators you'll find the place to enter the name of the font you want to use." - Alex Gollner

"You're right, but the map was to illustrate that the Thames fits the riverless map pretty well with no changes. As regards using Illustrator to make the maps, the art is in making changes to the official map. It's a matter of selecting the right points to move after locking points and lines you don't want to move (once you've created your initial version of the map). I might come up with more detailed tips soon." - Alex Gollner

"If you had all your clips in the browser, you could make sure the field dominance column is visible, select the clips and control-click the field dominance value of one of the selected clips and choose a new value. As your clips are in sequences, all you can do is use the Shift Fields filter. This will only work if you want to change from Upper to Lower or vice-versa. If you do, apply the filter to one clip, choose your setting (-1 or +1), copy the clip, select all the clips in the sequence, command-click the clip you copied to deselect it, choose Paste Attributes from the Edit menu and make sure 'Filters' are only selected. Then go to any other sequences and use Paste Attributes to apply the filter to all of them at once." - Alex Gollner

"You can do whatever you like with these fonts except sell them. I'd also appreciate it if people don't make them available to download from anywhere else. However, you can pass them between you and others in your design workflow - clients, printers etc." - Alex Gollner

"Note that the first of the four font controls applies to the font used by the text that is to the left of the ‘*’. The following control applies to the text to the right of the ‘*’. If there is no ‘*’ on the line of text neither of these font settings apply, the third, the ‘Headings’ section, applies: text with no ‘*’ included." - Alex Gollner

"Due to what can be done in FxScript, there isn’t much I can directly do about flicker. The tool that I make available is the speed at which the credits move. The speed that works depends on whether your final output is interlaced or not. If it is interlaced, the speed of the credits must be 120 or 240 pixels per second. As regards which settings define whether your sequence is interlaced or not, with your overall sequence open in the timeline, go to the Sequence menu and choose ‘Settings’ to see. Flicker is a function of typesize, frame rate and speed in pixels per second. I know you’re under pressure, but all you can do is try different settings for these things. As regards applying a filter to reduce the blur, the only one applicable is ‘Directional Blur’ (Amount 1, Angle changed to 90). Good luck!" - Alex Gollner

"The reason why I left the Circle line as a flask shape instead of a rounded rectangle is that I want the Central line to remain as straight as possible. That means keeping Bank and Monument close to each other. The position of Bank is also defined by the Waterloo & City line being a single diagonal line." - Alex Gollner
