"I just saw one of these for the first time yesterday when I was driving around Atlanta - thought it was cool and then here it is... Great idea!"

"My wife was a veterinary technician for years and is constantly frustrated by friends that own pets calling her up, asking for advise, and then whining about the cost.... I just want to emphasize the comments that you made in the post about the cost of owning a pet - if you aren't prepared to pay to keep your pet healthy, or to address unexpected health needs of your pet, then please don't get the pet... It's a living creature - if you can't afford to take care of that life, don't take responsibility for it...."

"When you think back to some of the big technical evolutions that changed our lives in positive ways, email certainly stands among them. While the basic tenants of email haven’t really changed, how we use it has. For many, email has morphed from a pure messaging system to an instant messenger, file transfer system, data storage location, and more. While the email’s functions, abilities, and uses have increased exponentially; so have the liabilities."

"I have a bit of an issue with your statement - 'It’s important to remember, however, that current credit card POS terminals and systems are often insecure, yet millions of users use them everyday anyway. At this stage, nothing indicates that there is anything about mobile payments that is anymore inherently insecure than any other system.' It's way too broad of a comment and there are review structures in place (PCI DSS, PA-DSS, PTS, etc.) around 'traditional' electronic payments that just aren't as well fleshed-out with the mobile payment technologies as they are being presented now. Not saying that any particular mobile payment technology/process is less secure, but I am saying that there is a lot less oversight regarding the security of the new mobile payment solutions. It's important for people to understand that there may very well be security concerns around a particular mobile payment solution and they should at least be aware of the potential risks..."

By themselves, neither a code review nor a web application penetration test find all of the vulnerabilities that threaten the application.

"This is pretty cool, but the science & technology adviser for Minority Report (also an MIT guy) is also pursuing this type of technology - his company is Oblong (oblong.com) and there is a video here that shows some of their technology at work. http://vimeo.com/2821182"

First and foremost, healthcare is still very far behind other industries in addressing security concerns at the application provider, hospital and insurer levels. It appears that the larger application providers have begun to address certain concerns; e.g., most healthcare software companies are beginning to address compliance. What’s interesting is that PCI and PCI PA-DSS are the main drivers forcing these organizations to at least review their products.
