Well I'll be at State where the girls are half as smart and therefore twice as likely to fellaysh me. "When I was a little kid, I kinda had this problem. And it's not even that big of a deal, something like 8 percent of kids do it. For some reason, I don't know why. I would just kinda... sit around all day... and draw pictures of dicks." "What?" "Draw pictures of dicks." "Dicks? Like a man dick?" Soundtrack to that movie is awesome too."

"Or, as illustrated elsewhere in the thread, you were already too well-known for your prowess. Happened to me in 7th grade in the Windows 3.11 days. If the screensaver was up and required a password when it exits, you could just CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill the screen saver, without having to know the password. In my Reading class, we had this program where you would select a book from a list, read it, and then take some test on the computer to measure your reading comprehension. You logged in to the program by selecting your name from a list and then entering your password. Everyone's password was their lastname (up to some number of characters) and their first initial. Some kid in my class got a bad mark on his reading comprehension test and then made up a story about how I must have logged in and taken the test under his name, to make him look bad. Everyone in the class (including the teacher) knew I had figured out how to "unlock the computers" so I was immediately accused by both the..."

"This might be more suitable for the "what's the worst way you've been turned down" one, but basically when my friends and I go out the main goal is to get hammered and hit on girls. So of course we get turned down all the time. I usually employ some clever come-backs that are easy for my drunk ass to remember like: Me: "Hey how's it going? What are you doing after this?" Girl: "Sorry, I have a boyfriend" Me: "Yeah well tell him to stop cock-blocking me" or Me: "Hey how's it going? What are you doing after this?" Girl: "Sorry, I have a boyfriend" Me: "Yeah well I have goldfish" Girl: "Huh?" Me: "Oh I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about shit that doesn't matter" Anyway, my favorite is when my buddy walked up to a girl, pointed at her stomach and flat out said, "I'm going to put a BABY in there." He got hit so hard he pretty much fell over. Me and the rest of our friends nearly fell over from laughter."

This could be due to the rumors that Apple will release an updated iPhone 3G this summer. People don't want to buy an iPhone now if a newer, flashier one will come out in 6 months.

Firefox is starting to bug me; it seems so slow. Safari feels better but I can't live without a keyboard shortcut to get to the Google search (CMD+k in FireFox). Can I do that in Safari somehow?
Yes, Firebug is indispensable. In Safari, I just Command-T, Tab to open a new tab and tab to the Google search bar. I'm using Safari 4 and it's lightning fast.
- Alex Hutnik
Agreed, Paul. Unless I'm actually doing web development, I don't activate it. Some people I guess are *always* doing development work :)

It's ⌘⌥F (hidden in the Edit > Find submenu). If you want, you could use System Preferences' keyboard shortcut editor to change it to ⌘K. I usually just ⌘L,⇥ though (even in Firefox).
- Andrew Witte
This should be possible: most UI elements in Mac OS X are scriptable or shortcutable. I'm currently restoring my computer so I can't give specific instructions yet, but a good place to check is in the keyboard system preference pane.

I once started Firefox with "firefox -p" and created a profile without extensions.

I really don't like Safari. It doesn't actually feel fast to me. I am sure the rendering engine is fine, but the rest of it is so sexy and animated that it makes everything seem slower. Even opening new tabs in the new version feels slow for me. Can't wait until Chrome is released for Mac OS.
- Bret Taylor
Even disabling firebug doesn't completely fix the slowness. I used to run two separate firefox instances, but now I've just stopped using firebug.

I use Chrome for day-to-day surfing, and Firefox for development. After trying Chrome, I never looked back on Firefox due to slowness.

How you do it in Safari: Command - L and then Tab. That sends you to the location bar and then tab to the Search bar. (And Frankie beat me to it)
- Louis Gray
Command + Option + F for Safari search bar
- Mayuresh Walke
I'll try disabling Firebug and only enable it when necessary.
- Benjamin Golub
To elaborate on what Andrew Witte and I suggested, go to System Preferences, then into Keyboard & Mouse, then into the Keyboard Shortcuts, click the plus sign, select Safari from the application drop-down menu, use "Google Search..." for the Menu Title, and pop in any shortcut you want. Changes take effect immediately.
- Mark Trapp
disabling firebug for most domains is the first step, also, if you're using 3.0 try 3.1 (currently in beta), big performance improvements across the board
- Louis Simoneau
I find web inspector in Safari as good as firebug for my development. Having said that, FF 3.1 as pointed out by Louis, is definitely lighter than FF 3.0, however, Safari wins the performance game hands down.

I thought it was just me, but yeah Firefox is slow on both Windows and Linux. I use Windows at work and there are almost job-saving extensions that I use in Firefox that I couldn't live without (Showcase Sidebar mainly because I have to monitor 5 sites at once). If it wasn't for that I'd be using Chrome on Windows. On my home systems (all use linux) there is no chrome yet, and quite frankly I'm not impressed with the other browser choices. Opera is just....bleh...Chrome needs extensions plain and simple

Safari is faster but has zero plugins that work the way I want. Waiting for the new FF rendering engine, but wondering if the plugins will kill it's speed

Apparently Paris photos do well on Flickr. You can add that to the list of things I already knew were guaranteed to be popular: photos of pretty girls, HDR, food, and anything with a blurry background
