I'm disappointed there was no record plug ;)

Michael, I feel like I've been doing too much of that lately! :)

Beautiful campus, that. I worked in an office building just a couple blocks away, and often ran along the Lake Michigan shoreline path on my lunch hour. It's hard to top a setting like that (except perhaps in winter when the winds are blasting.)

"How and why do non-experts contribute to innovation? The conflict between expertise and innovation sits uneasily in academia, where the enterprise hinges on doling out official credentials. But a lack of expertise can in fact drive people to create the kind of disruptive technologies that really are game-changers."

"Don’t Go Back to School is a handbook for independent learning that shows you how to learn almost anything without school. If you’re thinking about going back to school or about the possibility of self-taught learning, read this book first!"

"The passionate learners in this book have taught themselves subjects like programming, history, writing, design, art, engineering, business, languages, philosophy, and many other skills, trades, and disciplines. They’ll tell you what they know about learning and show you how they’ve done it. "

"Today’s demonstrations will impact us. While we cannot officially speak for every worker who shares our occupation, we can use this opportunity to reveal what it’s like to walk a day in our shoes for the 110,000 of us in America whose job it is to be a port truck driver. It may be tempting for media to ask questions about whether we support a shutdown, but there are no easy answers. Instead, we ask you, are you willing to listen and learn why a one-word response is impossible?"

"We see the library as not being in the book business, but being in the learning business and the exploration business and the expand-your-mind business," he says. "We feel this is really in that spirit, that we provide a resource to the community that individuals would not be able to have access to on their own."
