Michael Forian
How long till FriendFeed dies? No one uses it (in comparison to Twitter) and it's not as fun to use (when compared to Twitter). Eh?
I disagree; twitter is only an adjunct to friendfeed in my usage - RAPatton
This is the type of post that requires a "DO NOT WANT" button. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
-1 flamebait - Bwana ☠
Hopefully FF lives longer than I do. After I die, who cares.... - Morgan
I use both. Both have their uses for me. Sometimes overlapping; often different - Ian May
I don't understand the words coming out of your mouth. - Derrick
Michael, FriendFeed might be already dead if you are not using it. Like a leaf falling in a distant forest. It lives for your input. - Chris Loft
I find Friendfeed more fun to use. Twitter is just streams of stuff that I can't filter and half of it I don't want - Tyler (Chacha)
Why are you here then? :o/ - Rob Sellen :o)
Huh? I guess you don't use FF, like many other geeks do - Shevonne
easy on the "geek" label there shevone... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Disagree I am never on Twitter! I post on FF and then it goes to twitter and I check it maybe once a month compared to FF which is a few times a day! - Brandy Lea
i wish i was smart enough to be called a geek. maybe someday. maybe.... - Morgan
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that friendfeed will die when Michael Forian actually starts using it. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Interesting talk for someone subbed to 11K people on FF. - Derrick
Hey. If I'm going to get an overtly negative response to posts that are critical against FriendFeed, then that's sad. When I talk poorly of Twitter, people listen and give me decent feedback. I'm not impressed. - Michael Forian
You subscribed to more people than scoble .. no wonder your complaining! - Tyler (Chacha)
@Derrick: I went a little bonkers on the new Twitter to FriendFeed option :) - Michael Forian
I just ask... WHY are you here? - Rob Sellen :o)
And only 22 hours ago... http://friendfeed.com/e... - Michael Forian
Your post isn't critical against friendfeed as it's completely false. So how are we supposed to give you credible feedback? No one uses it? False. Not fun to use? False. Try again. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
So if no one uses it, and it's not as fun to use, then why do you? I hate Brightkite. HATE it. So you know what, I don't use it. And that's no slam on people who do, it just doesn't work for me. Same as machetes or tampons; I have no use for them, so I don't...well, use them. - Derrick
I also disagree. I might use twitter more if I used my cell phone for such things, but as it stands I prefer FF. Nice controversy-inciting tweet though :) - Mattb4rd
Thing is. You can't compare Twitter and FF. They are two different services - Shevonne
They're not facts but my opinions. I tend to exaggerate, and it seems to get a lot of responses! Just look at this thread! - Michael Forian
"I'm going to stomp on FF and then stomp on the people who use FF because they are so 'negative,' WHAAAAAA" - Dawn
So you start threads making 'exaggerated' statements because you like increasing the amount of traffic in your thread? - Derrick
I didn't intend for this post to get a lot of attention. When I post a personalized FF post (like of me in a picture doing something dumb) I expect that to get attention. - Michael Forian
Good thing to consider next time ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
OK That's it. War Talk! What's wrong with Brightkite then, Derrick? No, I'm only kidding! To each their own of course. I love posting stuff from around town, and think Brightkite could be a good thing to use for bar and restaurant reviews for example. Folks think I'm weird though coz I take pics of all my food and beer before I eat it! LOL - Ian May
Ok, so you got more attention than you might have expected, but I'm still waiting for an explanation. And I'm not trying to start a war, or cause drama, but when inflammatory statements are made you have to expect...y'know, inflammation. So, give us some insight. Thanks. - Derrick
I smell Grade A trolling and I am very impressed. +1 Michael - Duncan Riley
Ian, I hate Brightkite for ME. I prefer people not knowing where I am, but like I said, that's for me. If others want to, and people certainly do, post away. I just usually hide them. ;) - Derrick
‘A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark.’ — Woody Allen - Oldengrey (Jay)
Who is trolling Duncan? - Rob Sellen :o)
You are so wrong it makes my blood boil. Look at your friendfeed account http://friendfeed.com/forian to see why. - Robert Scoble
Rob, Michael is. He wrote the opposite a day ago. He's testing the reaction to the proposition. Make it a +10. - Duncan Riley
Go to http://www.friendfeed.com/scoblei... to see just how wrong you are. I now have 25,500 followers and TONS of people are using friendfeed. It is growing faster than Twitter did in its first year and engagement on it is much higher. - Robert Scoble
lol.. i see.. :o) yeah i even agreed with his comment yesterday.... :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
This is hilarious :) - Michael Forian
I can't say that I've had fun on Twitter. It is interesting and I liked the premise. And then FF came along and I finally 'got' social networking. Actual conversations that you can follow easily. A better picture of who you are following since you get to see as many feeds as they want to share. Better control over those feeds. On Twitter I'm subject to whatever if I'm a subscriber. I can't hide their tweets based on what service they are talking about. - Yolanda
Hard to compare apples to apples since FF and Twitter are different. But, on FF, if I don't want to see your posts to one of your particular blogs, I can hide it. Good luck doing that with Twitter. - Yolanda
Yeah, I'm actually feeling the pull. FriendFeed feels so much more robust. - Jon Lebkowsky
Twitter is useful for short simple messages or links. As here, I'm good at skim reading and simply going right past what I don't want to read. I never get bothered by the stuff I don't want. I simply ignore it. - Ian May
@Yolanda: I don't think I've ever hidden anything on FriendFeed. And on Twitter, if a user posts something that I think should be hidden, I just unfollow them. No question asked. - Michael Forian
Hmm, I have the exact opposite impression. Twitter = too much noise and much clumsier to go viral and selectively weed out the noise. Plus, I love the aggregation capabilities of FF. I actually find the reverse observation a bit perplexing. Seems to me FF has stage appropriate following and that it's a real tool, versus Twitter which seems to me destined to become more of a commodity. - Mike Cichon
I agree with yolanda.... ;o) micheal... if you just unfollow cos of ONE thing, you miss out any really good things you could use, learn ec... why shoot yase;lf in the foot like that.. - Rob Sellen :o)
Michael - you've never had an occasion where you like about 80% of someone's posts? On FF, if I like all their tech talk but get bored when they start sharing their posts from their stamp collecting blog, I get to selectively hide those stamp collecting blog posts. - Yolanda
So, when does my crucifixion begin? Or is this it? - Michael Forian
Gasps in complete horror at this post... thinks Michael is pulling our chain. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
You had me at machetes & tampons! I come here despite having no subscribers. wherez da love? - John Johnson
crucifixtion??? grow up. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I wonder if it got this bad when Andy DeSoto made the prediction that FriendFeed was going to die before 2010. - Michael Forian
this discussion reminds me of the saying "no one goes there any more, it's too crowded" These are just tools. The real revolution is that people are able to communicate so much more. It will never be one technology again - Warren Whitlock
Well, I guess we could ask the monetization question... - Ontario Emperor
wy thanks! I suspect you got a kick out of stirring up some crap! lol - Jannifer @wordsforliving
micheal.. who gives a shit what andy or anyone else said.... YOU said this here, now... i never read andys comment. so its irrelevant. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
ok FF will die, meanwhile lets talk about this here, instead of twitter , LOL. thousands is reading and following FF. - Rocky
I can almost hear the mischievous laughter. I also have a very mischievous side, but have to hide it (people are just too serious these days & don't know how to have fun). My 2 older teens however can do it and are both equipped with shit-stirring sticks and have a blast stirring it up with me. *sigh* - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Michael, I'd start ducking now, there are people on here that will hunt you down for showing dissent. Interesting discussion btw, I hope you'll turn it into a blog post. - Duncan Riley
Michael: you didn't want a conversation, you just wanted to say something bombastic and wrong to get a fight going. That's trolling. If you want a list of how I think friendfeed sucks, just ask. I've written many times on that topic and would be happy to again. But being a wrong asshole is going to get you blasted here. - Robert Scoble
Hunt him down?? dont blow it out of proportion will ya Duncan lol. ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
By the way, I used this post to get more of my Twitter followers over here to check out friendfeed. So, I appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate friendfeed to others. :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert, this was for fun, let's all behave :) Just wanted to give a cardiac check to everyone and this was the fastest way! ;) - Michael Forian
That aimed at me Michael? :o/ or is scoble posting here too? - Rob Sellen :o)
If posting on friendfeed via Twitter that friendfeed is dying is fun, you need to find a new hobby. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
On Twitter people do not talk, they Spam. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
@Rob: It was directed towards Mr. Scoble (and anyone else who needed a pulse reader) :) - Michael Forian
Well, I'm reading you via FF and Twhirl.... no sign of death throes yet... - Kim Flintoff from twhirl
@Igor: like you used to do? ;) - Michael Forian
ah ok... cant see his stuff since he (childishly IMO) blocked me. :o) guessed tho as most people call me rob as appossed to my full name ... :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Forian, on Twitter unless you scream no one listens. On Friend Feed I do not need to scream. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
lol @ michael.... well igor, got a point lol... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Forian, all I have to say is: FRIENDFEED. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG. - Steven Perez
+100 Steven - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Steven - Awesome! - Jaemi Kehoe
Twitter is for the birds. Hungry Twitter birds screaming for the Worm of Recognition! LOL - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Not even going to add anything to the argument, just going to say riiiiiiiiiiiiight and leave... - FFing Enigma
Rob, nobody expects the FF inquisition ;-) - Duncan Riley
Actually, Forian, you deserve a straight answer: when FriendFeed FAILS as often as Twitter. - Steven Perez
But Duncan that's because there is no inquisitars to take up the inquisition. ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Rob, on that pt, you're very wrong. I'm looking at this thread and it amazes me how quickly a comment, irrespective of it being wrong, became grounds for a personal attack instead of a debate on the issue itself. - Duncan Riley
where was the personal attack? - Rob Sellen :o)
Duncan: I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a personal attack. More like a controversial tweet that sparked a heated debate. - Michael Forian
You're not doing it right. - Ernie Oporto from Nambu
Friendfeed and Twitter are two different things. And to be honest I get a hell of a lot more out of Friendfeed then I do Twitter. - Mathew™ aka Youngblood
Twitter to me is mostly noise. With Friendfeed, I can easily scroll down and find something I might be interested in. Besides, I can access the twitter noise I want to access, right here on Friendfeed (like now ;-) - Paula W
Duncan: I want you to go back through this and tell me how many personal attacks you see. I blocked Igor (someone else here mentioned him, so I assume he's here, but I don't see him). The comment was TOTALLY wrong and provably so and I pointed that out. I also said he was an asshole for saying that, and now saying he's "having fun." that's trolling and despicable behavior. Go back to Twitter if that's what you think we want to see here. - Robert Scoble
Robert, calm down. I agree the comment is wrong, but using names doesn't make it more wrong. Most of the conversation was civil, and compared to some recent ones, kudos, although I suspect I cant see a fair few of the comments either. - Duncan Riley
To me one could not exist with the other. I prefer twitter for my views but always go to FF to comment and discuss. - Sloan Bowman
Not meaning me then. ;o) it seems wrong this blocking crap... how is it right you stop someone else seeing your post? if someone blocks my post so they cant see them, fine... but blocking ME from seeing things is stupid and in a sense wrong..that choice should be mine. ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Robert. Do you really like calling a 14 year old an asshole? Does it make you feel better about yourself? My comments are my comments, whether or not you share them is up to you. - Michael Forian
are you 14????? sheesh... sorry i said grow up... carry on being your youthful self... sheesh we all grow in planyet of time so don't rush it matey.... BLOCK scoble if he is being abusive..that man has less backbone than you do...fogetaboutit... ;o) remember this... people cant say something nasty like that unles they see it in themselves.. so... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Rob, users have a right to enjoyment on FF without harassment and hate, otherwise we wouldn't have the tools to filter it out. Besides, who's blocked you, I haven't, but you better behave ;-) (joke BTW) - Duncan Riley
@Scoble I'd call it more gadfly than troll, and it did create an interesting discussion. - David Potts
This small, informal poll indicates we are all right "Twitter vs. friendfeed": http://www.libraryman.com/blog... - WebJunction
@ Duncan.. i agree...therefore if scoble has called a 14 yr old an asshole...he ought hang his head in shame... thats a bully in action that is.... he is the one who blocked me... why? i guess cos I saw through him and he never liked the fact I was pointing it out.... for your point duncan..i agree...being fair and firm is a long way off abusive...calling a young lad an asshole is abusive! - Rob Sellen :o)
Twitter is beholden to VCs who want a return. FF much less so. Twitter is swamped with SPAM and a large number of users have more than one account. (e.g - highly inflated usage numbers). Twitter is a giant Internet megaphone. FriendFeed is a collective data flow with annotations that result in information. How long till who dies? - AJ Kohn
I don't see why Friendfeed should ever die ("ever" in internet time). ICQ is still around, which means someone's still using it. IRC is still somewhat popular. Almost all of the major means of communication on the internet are around in some form. North America may have forgotten Orkut, South America loves it. Humans are communicators. We love to have 10 different ways to reach out to other people. Any accepted means of communication may become less popular, but odds are it will never disappear. - Jack&Cleo
Hope there was an apology from scoble!? - Rob Sellen :o)
It was his honest opinion. His reaction was to the original post, not all the explanations that came later. - Jack&Cleo
Jack.. you talking to me? that makes it ok does it? calling a 14 yr old an asshole in public too? and the orignal comment warrant that does it? - Rob Sellen :o)
You have gotta be kidding me. This blew up? really? Hold on...lemme go write a post calling everyone's mom a slut..... - Rahsheen the Dream
Michael: I have no idea how old you are. - Robert Scoble
Use both. - David Feng
I use both, they're great in different ways. - susan mernit
Disagree! Much easier to use, much more fun, much more useful than Twitter. - Jeff P. Henderson
FriendFeed is a more complete service than Twitter. I use it a lot every day. - Jay Barcelo
How many people retweeted this? I see 27 likes above. - Jesse Stay
BS look at all these comments! You're logic is a tad OFF dude! Try this with twitter... you'll never piece together all the comments...DOH! - Susan Beebe
I think that friend feed has some use, but it really needs to be something more than just a way to comment on an abstracted version of a posting on another website. - Alex Miller
I vote for friendfeed over twitter. Due to the nested comments here, I think the conversations are much deeper and more interesting. - Peter Efland
Michael Forian: how many successful tech predictions have you made in the past? - Sean McBride
Lets give the lad a break here..he is 14 !! my youngest is 14 next week, and I couldn't see him on here or twitter...have conversation... ok, maybe he made a rash statement, but he is 14 .. getting the picture? If scoble called my son an asshole... id be dam angry... and invite him come say that to his face in front of me... arrogant bullying?. as for others...you are talkking to a LAD...not a man. give him kudos for even caring about here. glad to see my son not here taking this. - Rob Sellen :o)
It would have been helpful if he announced that he was only 14 at the outset. - Sean McBride
Rob Sellen - Let's keep it at this: Scoble would not like to meet my dad :) - Michael Forian
don't worry, mike. robert tends to get upset when people disagree with him :P - Terry O'Fee
FF wins :) - Bob
