So Best Buy lowered the price on my TV one day after the 30 day period. Going in to ask if they'll discount my TV anyhow...the worst thing that happens is they say "no".
Can't return it...it's out of the 30 day window.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
I wonder if they don't check their database to see how many people have recently bought the TV and what the length of time is since their purchase... make decisions based on demand + how many people are in the 30 day window... cynical, I know
- Justin Long
You'd do yourself a disservice by following their instructions, especially if you already own a Mac. You can easily get to the install process by using the 5 steps here: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum...
- Mark Trapp
Mark: Does this process works only with the Dell Mini 9?
- Alex Sauceda
They have a list of supported devices here: http://code.google.com/p... The Gizmodo guide only works for the Mini 9, if I remember correctly, though.
- Mark Trapp
Interesting - let me think about it then. I want to make sure those that are going to do the most with it are going to get invitations at first. Maybe I'll hand out one or two as prizes on my blog.
- Jesse Stay
Please, please, please i want to play with some code with wave api
- Sunny (The Geek Lord)
I do not think it will replace email. Wave is heavy compared to email. It seems like it will be useful for collaborating but it isn't a social experience. Email/IM are lighter and more suited to having a conversation. Wave might be great for getting work done though
- Benjamin Golub
from what i have learned( not on wave) through videos and all, it will take its time to settle and bcome practical among masses, and yeah it's more of a collaboration tool than a social network though good networks could be built around it
- testbeta
I've been playing with the developer sandbox for a while, and honestly, I still don't see the point of Wave. It's fine as a collaboration tool, but I would hesitate to say it'll "replace" anything at all. It's slow as heck, for one thing, almost to the point of unusability. Disorganized, hard to understand and use, etc. The API is niftier, so I can see some types of new things being...

yeah, definitely windows mobile like - but for me, probably the best feature of windows mobile :)
- Zee.
do you think the apple fanbois would be capable of loving the iphone if they know the interface was ripped off from ms? should this ever become a reality that is ;)
- alphaxion
and yes, I have to agree... the home screen of winmo6 was a fantastic improvement and set the bar very high for displaying info on a mobile.
- alphaxion
I suppose I could set something up like that on one of my Android home screens.
- Christopher A Carr
i want this feature so bad i'd consider getting an android just for it.
- Zee.
I'd like the ability to setup something like this, yes (an alternate home screen with additional content and info, yes, please.) I think the current home screen is a good default, but users should have access to something similar to this. I'm not a fan of the actual layout, but that could be something that is tweaked over time.
- Jennifer Dittrich
You can already do this. You need to be Jailbroken and then install lockscreeninfo. Works like a charm, and is totally configurable to what you want to display.
- Keith Bennett
Try a clean install. Wipe the drive.
- Alex Knight
Unfortunately - I'm going to have to say clean install as well. My mac crashed non-stop after snow leopard - including kernel panics- and ended up being the install somehow messed up my SSD (which worked fine in other computers).
- Paul Stamatiou
So... Mac OS is not that different from Windows...

Sparky claims it is. Claims that it feels about twice as fast as the 3G as far as app launching and execution speeds go. You'll still be bottlenecked by AT&T's crap data network, though.
- Akiva Moskovitz
i guess i just find it strange i haven't heard rave reviews nor much excitement from people who have upgraded...I would have thought the improved camera and video would be enough...
- Zee.
I'm also wondering whether it's worth the upgrade...can already record video but would really appreciate a boost in speed
- Franz Sittampalam
from iPhone
I dont have a 3GS but I dont think I'm going to spend extra on a few new features coming from the 3G
- Zach Cheatham
Depends on how much the new features mean to you. Youll get a better camera, video recording, compass, and a slightly faster processor. I upgraded from the 1G and it was a no-brainer.
- Bryan Lee
from iPhone
I like the better camera features & video, and more space for movies and music. Still trying to decide what to do with my old one. Compass: meh. Speed: I guess I don't notice that I'm not waiting on things much anymore :)
- LogEx
definetly worth it... it's like a upgrading to mac from windows :D
- Ozan Kilic
Definitely worth the upgrade. When they said the S was for speed they were not kidding. It is much, much, much faster in every way possible than the 3G. John Gruber likened the processor upgrade to going from a 486 to a Pentium back in the day. Throw in doubled up RAM and other improvements and the thing is just blazing.
- Patrick Jordan
Can't afford the upgrade but I think the coolest benefit would be the ability to use the AR apps. Unless I'm mistaken, they all depend on the compass.
- metalerik
on paper it seems like it due to memory and cpu. its simply faster and also have some cool xtra features. not worth the full price but seems worth the upgrade.
- ugurarcan
I'm getting one of each tomorrow via Fedex... I'll let you know!
- Alex Sauceda
Do it mate, you won't regret it. The speed bump is noticeable, the thing just works like you expect it to.
- Keith Bennett
It is soo worth it. The camera is nice, but the speed boost is the best.
- Hunt
I second Metalerik on the AR app testing. That's probably 1 of 3 reasons why I upgrade. I'll wait until I get a discount or God blesses me with one early on. No raves on my end either, but I haven't heard anything bad in the least. I think some of the actual new features that you notice, you don't need to use on a daily basis so there isn't much to rave about that you're constantly thinking about.
- Corvida
I'd love to upgrade but I'm too cheap to buy out my contract from O2, so I'm going to wait for the 4th gen next Summer. My iPhone 3G works well for me, so I'm content :)
- Brad Brooks
I'd say it is.. I just got the 3GS and it's really very quick and smooth. Add into that the video and you've got a great deal
- Scott Lockhart
Just get it. You won't be disappointed. I never let mine outta my hands. Except to sleep.
- johnpiercy

YES- Speed is definitely improved, as is battery life, photo quality; plus added voice and video recording features! Go for it - it's worth it!
- Susan Beebe

Everyone upgrade, so I can have a better chance of getting a 3G secondhand without a contract :)
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Hellz yeah. Speed + camera improvements rock.
- ronin
I have a 3G and I upgraded to the 3GS, and it was totally worth it. Way way faster, more stable on memory intensive apps, and the camera is awesome. I also love the voice control feature, which works perfect for me. Once I sell my old 3G, it will cover the cost of upgrading so it was a no brainer.
- Justin Luey
from FreshFeed
Yes, except the poor batt life on 3GS
- victed
from Nambu
Worth it for me for the speed improvement and the voice control!
- Jim
I upgraded to 32GB 3G S for $299+ Tax sold the 16 GB 3 G for $330 in 1 hour on craigslist. Should have held out for more. I jailbroke and unlocked. Had 4 people wanting it before it was picked up! Speed and extra memory well worth it. I wish AT&T would let me upgrade my other 2 at that price, but I have to wait until May 2010?

I feel sorry for all you addicts. My use of it is purely social.
- Bruce Lewis
I do like FF and use it almost every day. Wouldn't it be great if FB either left it alone so we can continue to use it as "professionals," or somehow incorporate it into a more "mature" version of FB that didn't have all the annoying, time-wasting apps, games, etc. I'd much prefer a totally customizable FF "wall."
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I think FFundercats HO!!!!! would have worked but I'm here anyways.

Actively fighting addiction to anything on a daily basis, but I'm still a FriendFeed fan! (I'd have been here sooner but I've been staring at Phoebe Cates pics for longer than I realized.)
- Mark Jepsen
Thank you Robert Scoble to be here. :) BTW is this looks interesting for FF replacement? : http://streamy.com/ ? May be... I'll try it to see. :)
- Claude LaFrenière
Why should I? Whats in it for me? You doing some sort of survey of people to send out the police to do a "Safety Check" on when the site is shutdown?
- CW™
here. anecdote: a friend of mine just signed up for FF this evening. apparently the FriendFeed hype of the last 24 hours pushed him over the top. leaves me wondering whether FF has actually gained users today?it would be a crafty way of marketing the service. I'll wake up tomorrow to discover that there was a problem with the paperwork and the FriendFeed team have had a change of heart.

David -- this was a $9.95 session but you can get them for $7.95 and there are also 25% off coupons if you do online check-in prior to your Delta flight. That's an incentive for folks to use that service and offload kiosk use at the terminals. Very savvy marketing by the folks at GoGo and Delta combined.

I recommend FF to some of my clients, and there are some companies and nonprofits with presences here—not like Twitter, but I'll be curious how that will be affected when FB takes over more. Most have FB fan pages, groups and/or causes, too.

Yeah, me too. I just saw the request to have a comment link at the bottom of the comments from one of your friends just yesterday and here it is. I'd say they are listening. Thanks FF.

Hi, I'm Bette... I don't know if I'm an addict, but I can't stay away... I keep checking, just to see if something's new... and I cry if I get no responses to a post. Is that addictive behavior? :D
- Bette Cooper
Yup, I have blocked all the impersonators now. You will still see them, but I don't see them and they no longer can comment on any of my items.
- Robert Scoble
@scobleizer As far as I can see you have blocked not only the impersonators (who renamed themselves back the moment they found out you have a problem with this) but most of the folks who chatted there.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@meatreach yes, see next thread. Scobble becomes anti-Russian.
- Never Impersonate You
Maxatma: well, that's just too bad. I speak English. Sorry. People who don't speak English really don't have any business commenting on one of my items, except in rare cases.
- Robert Scoble
Why you, Robert Scoble, don't block users from Spain or Italy? China or arabic countries? Those users that comments on non-English languages?
- Never Impersonate You
@Robert, in fact they do speak English. But they also do make fun of Friendfeed and everything that's going on there. You can block them or take part in this fun. ;)
- Махатма Бугоганди
I prefer FF over twitter and facebook, but all my friends are on twitter and/or facebook. Maybe facebook will get it right this time now that it has acquired FF. If they simplify it a bit more without removing functionality. Then I would spend a bit more time on FB. Lets hope all goes well with the merger. If not I'm jumping ship and going over to Google Wave. oh wait, I'm going to go with Google Wave regardless! ;-)

Why so serious? Unlock people, they are not bots, they just playing the game of real addicts and have fun. Common.

@robert yes they (we will) stay here, I think tat the migration process will take time and after reading @Paul Bucheit, I think that what we all are trying to get even if we don't say it explicitly is to preserve a kind of intimacy (beeing a part of the Huge faceBook community) don't mean that FF community will preserve their intimacy, why should a community be a plan one, (let imagine a community as a set of sub-community) that all.
- abdellah
Wow!! So many likes and comments; is it a record Rob?
- Er-fun
@scobleizer thank you, for understanding. be cool, guys we just want have fun here a little. Take care.
- ideali
@Robert RE "I have enough noise in my life. I don't need to have more" - isn't it a lot of noise having 26K subscriptions and 46K subscribers on your frf account? I'm kind of surprised - you create a community that large around yourself, yet when you see a new and unusual activity you just block it right away.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@Robert, patience? Who's talking about patience? It's about curiosity, not patience. When something strange and unusual happens around you, you can either try to stop it or try to see what it can develop into. You choose to stop - and it stopped. Well, not stopped - just moved to some other place. And do you really know what it was and what it was about to bring you?
- Махатма Бугоганди
I'm here all the way from South Africa! I dig this service and I'm not quite ready to give it up. Regardless of the news about the acquisition, this remains an awesome service.

I don't know how I rate my addiction relative to others, but I shared Hitler's reaction upon hearing the acquisition news (despite happiness for Paul and Bret)
- Chris Duffy
I think I have to qualify my earlier answer. I don't have many friends on Friendfeed, but I do use it as a news aggregator. With groups and rooms, I used it like Techmeme. Facebook, where i have a more healthy friend list is less interesting. In fact, I spend more time there locking things down, than sharing, which I did pretty freely on FF, even if only 10 people cared.
- Peter
Hope this deal preserves FF's power and usability. FF:FB::Mac:Windows.
- David Lounsbury
I'm sure this is part of Scoble's plot to poll all the people who really read his posts, and unfollow the rest. So I raise my hand.

Just a wannabe. Not an addict (yet).
- Carole Hicks
It might also be a way for me to filter down my "following" count (diff (my followers, scoble)) are the only people I really need to follow. Those that scoble follows, I can safely unfollow and use Scoble as my social media filter :)
- Shivanand Velmurugan
pardon the arrogance but it really sucks this great forum of sharing will turn into a myspace humdrum. Now I have to find another SM where first adopters and well informed techies won't haft to compete with general "noise"
- earl wallace
Well, here's a comment I can later delete and rob the owner of 1500!
- Matthew DeVries
I just mention the 1500 mark since it was such an iconic query to see... that and the 500 Likes club of FF posts. It's pretty exclusive stuff... but it's also sobering to note that the subject matter required to get to these levels isn't always a uniform mix of cares/concerns.

I don't need to be addict. I'm just here, everyday, absorbing so many geeky info :D There's no place like FF
- Lysender
I'm still with ya, Robert. Whatever FB paid for FF, it wasn't enough!
- Donald C. Lindsay
New here, but learning. Tips for best use?
- Barbara Langham
@bdlangam From my perspective the #1 tip in this category is: Explore and define "best use" for yourself. Despite potential "finishing" impression of some productive consolidations in this collective-collaborative cognition space, the emergent #cognosphere is still WAY too nascent to assert anything other than initial impressions. March to the beat of your own drum; build your own...

"As Facebook continues to roll out the full version of its new user profiles, it’s becoming clear that their primary goal isn’t, as they said in May, to simply create a cleaner user experience and allow developers to have more meaningful engagement points with users. It’s more about highlighting new content relevant to the user and fostering conversations about that content. And the result is that the Facebook home page looks an awful lot like the exponentially smaller activity stream aggregation service called Friendfeed."
- Louis Gray
from Bookmarklet
there is ONE thing Facebook cannot replicate from Friendfeed. Speed of execution. FriendFeed will always be better and will always be one step ahead
- Ouriel Ohayon
That would be the site with 60m monthly visitors Fred.
- Jamie
Coming from the other side, I’d like to see the Facebookization of Friendfeed (without sucking that is). FF is a great place for content and discussion, but not so much for community and social networking.
- Hao Chen
Facebook's largely self-contained, immersive "social" and "fun" walled garden works especially well for interpersonal relations, and the upcoming facelift improves on those same principles. I'm impressed. That said, it's too heavyweight for active group conversations. FF has far and away the most effective implementation of group discussions, especially around "the rest of the web". It's great to have both FB and FF, each optimized around their use cases.
- Amir Gharaat
The only thing I'm sure of is that Facebook will be unable to recommend the same 9 persons to add as friends to everyone - so hopefully we will still be able to choose exactly who we want to talk to.
- Svetlana Gladkova
Friendfeed = open; facebook = closed; this would be an area i'd be happy to see facebook copy
- Alex Gawley
@Thomas, LOL... I always crack up when I see, in any FB thread your "Facebook is boring".
- Juan Pablo González
Friendfeed lays it all out as a stream of posts and comments. It's like reading a newspaper. Just my style.

Facebook has lost its mojo really fast, I winder if the same will happen to FriendFeed
- João Almeida
from twhirl
@Joao lost its mojo with who? The twittersphere? Facebook was doing just fine before and after they jumped on and off the bandwagon. According to FB, UUs and engagement are up every month.
- Jamie
Almeida: yeah, Facebook is growing as fast as ever and tons of "normal people" swear by it. Just because us early-adopter-inside-the-techie-bubble are over here playing on FriendFeed, don't assume that everyone else is. 110 million are on Facebook, maybe more by now. When I went to Israel all I heard was "Facebook, Facebook, Facebook." Same with my niece and lots of others here in Silicon Valley. Also, its event calendar brings tons more people than others.
- Robert Scoble
Typical conversation with Real World Friends: "So I saw this post on Friend Feed..." "What's that?" "It's this website where it aggregates everything you do on various social networks" "Social Networks? Like..." "Flickr, Twitter, Yelp..." (Blank Stares) "Websites like Facebook are social.." "OHHH FACEBOOK.. That's the best site ever. *blah blah blah"
- George Smith
Alex Gawley: Seems that Facebook no longer will be closed. "This week facebook will also launch their Facebook Connect product, which is designed to let users get that data back out of Facebook." http://www.techcrunch.com/2008...
- Alex Sauceda
but do you think the average FB user is going to use the "comment on news feed" feature? a quick scan of some of my heavy-user FB friends last week showed no comments on any news feed items, and then a couple days ago i noticed someone's status message was "I hate all these comment tags on facebook now"...
- Trent Olson
I love FF but all my non geeks friends and family are on Facebook. Seems that it works better for them.
- Alex Sauceda
Keep in mind, that 18 months ago you could not have had this conversation with anyone who was not 1) in the SV echo chamber or 2) in college. Web services start small and some inflect to a larger community and some don't.
- Christopher Sacca
My friends on FB go to Flickr for conversation. None of them are on FF. I add FF contacts in FB to view their bios.
- Russellreno
Louis - Agreed but I think the reason is more that they're trying to do an even better job with targeted ads (to keep the price in check) ... ala GMail. I find my Facebook list growing from my activity on Friendfeed. Hmm
- Charlie Anzman
Was the FriendFeed mini-feed on Facebook axed: no summary, just a note showing something was added? It's doing that for Feedheads too. Is this happening with others folks?
- Blake N. Cooper
Jim: Thanks! Does that mean that my friends would need to change this on their end to see more than 1 line? I have a lot of my friends who will stick to the default (i.e. will be overwhelmed by process for changing) and most likely will not see the content of my Google Reader Shared Items and FriendFeed activity. Sucks if that's the case. Thanks again.
- Blake N. Cooper
Jim: Is that option retaining the setting - I have it set to one line, short and full, but the new items still seem to default to one line.
- Richard Peat
