It should work fine with fruit but all we have is cantaloupe and oldish bananas. Not the most photogenic fruit :P. I'm going to try out more things in it soon; I just wanted to blog about it right away because I was really happy with the result, but I do want to get another lamp to light the other side.

Seems like a momentary issue with App Engine. Thanks for reporting it.

I bought another 500 watt work light this afternoon; will try it out soon.
- Benjamin Golub
I tried some similar stuff last year photographing some glass jewelry. Clare has a lamp which is open at the top, and has a cylindrical glass around it. I put some white paper on top of it, which let much of the light through, then set the glass on top of the paper. It worked out pretty well.

Lovin' this. Need to go to bed so will set it up tomorrow. Thanks!

Since I started using twitter, it's been one feature removal after another. FriendFeed, on the other hand, keeps adding features -- features I might not use or might turn off, but features none the less. When can I buy FriendFeed stock (or what do I need to do to get some options)?
- Andy Bakun
Brad, I don't see how that reference applies at all here.
- Tyler Hayes
This looks encouraging for the people of half her age to join the web bandwagon.
- Ashish
This is wonderful! PS: Why are there always some people who have to make stupid comments?
- Verena Fuchs
Not only is this a testament as to the popularity of the Twitter social networking service, but it also disproves the old stereotype that the elderly doesn't understand today's technology.
- Thomas Ward
It wouldn't be too fast for her. There are assistive technologies (puff and sip) and new ones coming that can keep up.
- Melanie Reed
Just use pause, like I do. Live streaming is too much like watching TV, which immediately turns me off.
- Ernie Oporto
I hope some more people "follow" her and enjoy the internet. It does not replace the joy of social life but she can enjoy having the feeling of being connected.
- Ashish
Longevity isn't for wimps. However, if you make it to 100+, you too can enjoy an exciting rewarding future as a media-prop for some random future technology. Of course, you'll suck, because you're old; for we all know that http://alloldpeoplesuck.blogspot.com/ -- #Sardonic-Hyperbole-With-A-Message

Scam is bullshit. She's on there and still tweeting. Whether she's on Twitter because of a newspaper or because someone but a gun to her head, ages still on there, 104 years old and still Tweeting. Ahh, there, I feel better :)
- Zee.
oh and she just tweeter twice in the last 45 mins

Ivy is so sweet! A living testament that social media demographics are constantly evolving!

She is a feisty playful little girl! And a complete lover. Indiana is adapting pretty well, it always take both cats about 3 - 6 days to remember that kittens are fun! Indy is thinking about it but of course is cautious.

Nym will go through the same thing, but right now she is enjoying her little enclosed yard relaxing. We'll see what she thinks when she comes inside.

Scoble captures me shooting a monster truck! Thanks Pal. A good time today out at the dream machines show. Now I'll have to be up the rest of tonight processing mine. :)

I think I'd stand where Scoble is standing instead of where you are.
- William Beem
Heh! I don't process any of my shots. That is why yours are always better.
- Robert Scoble
William: this is where a long lens compresses the scene far more than it was in real life. Thomas was never in any danger. dreammachines09
- Robert Scoble
Nice, Robert, crouching lower to compress even more foreground would have heightened the sense of danger!
- John Lam
Nothing wrong with a little danger in life ;)
- Thomas Hawk
John: I was running and shooting trying to catch up with Thomas. I agree though.
- Robert Scoble
while covering a "water safety" story I made a picture of a kid on a jet ski zooming close to a boat, I had a 500mm.. the managing editor ran the picture and added to the caption: "this picture was taken with a long lens, making the subjects appear closer". no hysteria ensued.
- Brian Hendrickson
John Lam that's a great idea. a trick I learned while shooting soccer and football: lay on your belly. the players will appear to be levitating, a neat effect to occasionally throw in the mix.
- Brian Hendrickson
uploading my first batch of images now.

I love the fact that the only keeping Thomas from the truck is a yellow rope :P

The video will be embargoed until Monday morning but Paul Buchheit (left) and Bret Taylor just told me that they will show us a new friendfeed design but then said we can't talk about it until Monday morning. It will be on the beta site then, not the real site. I will see if there are other details we can reveal they will come over next hour.
- Robert Scoble
They're going to add profiles and pokes, right?
- Yuval Atzmon
If they do a total redesign, I will be pissed.
- TheHenry
scoble, i'm here at friendfeed hq, too, looking across the room at you. i assumed they meant "don't talk about it until monday" but maybe not i guess.
- Eric Eldon
I know this embargoing process is the way of the world but how is this much different than political reporters kowtowing to politicians in order to maintain "access"? Doesn't this process essentially sully the impartiality and integrity of tech reporters?
- Brian Sullivan
Do we have a time on Monday, cause, you know, I don't try and hit beta.friendfeed.com over and over again.... Not that I've tried already *whistles*
- Johnny
Brian, this isn't politics, it's a commercial venture. There is a difference between withholding and unveiling.
- Johnny
@Brian: No. It lets FriendFeed tell their story the same way to many people at once. It lets them get their product right before issuing it and running the risk of uncompleted updates getting reviewed.
- Louis Gray
Yes - I understand why FF and other companies want this ( the same reason in politics from what I can tell -- they want to control the message). My question still stands though: "Doesn't this process essentially sully the impartiality and integrity of tech reporters?"
- Brian Sullivan
@Brian, again, no. Agreeing to an embargo doesn't indicate bias.
- Louis Gray
Brian: private ventures are under no public obligation; their only obligation is to their investors. If other people want to know and they're willing to play by their rules, there's not much you can do. One person trying to make the "this is bullshit" argument about embargoes just means one less person who gets to know.
- Mark Trapp
Brian, I see what you are saying, but if that was the case, then the same must be applied to movie reviewers who get advanced screenings. I think if you are the type of journalist who writes good reviews on crap things just to maintain access, then you are not a journalist, you work in entertainment. It's the ones that get the access, call crap when they see it yet still get invited back that you need to listen to.
- Johnny
Please please please let there be blink and marquee tags...
- Bill Sodeman
It just gives you time to brief more than one person -- if the first person blabbed the whole story, you'd have a whole bunch of pissed off journos with nothing to write about except some other guy's coverage.
- Steve Lynch
from twhirl
Mark, Louis -- isn't this the same argument used by the reporters that had access to Wall Street bankers before the current financial melt down?
- Brian Sullivan
Brian, there's a difference between public interest and wanting to know what a private company is doing. Financial institutions are publicly-owned and traded companies, and are regulated by the Government because there is a real public interest in what they do. Knowing what FriendFeed, a privately-owned company, is doing 3 days before they announce it is hardly a justifiable public interest.
- Mark Trapp
rrrrr, i hate teases like that. just tell me when i can see it, no time to speculate. but Milan? just too sweet for words.
- Karoli
Mark - so essentially what you are saying if the company was a public company (Google or Microsoft for instance) obeying such an embargo could not be justified by a tech reporter?
- Brian Sullivan
the concept of a Beta version hosted on an other website is really interesting, with such process , users will have to compare and the show their preference, change aren't imposed, and tracking is made easy. FaceBook may learn something in such process.
- abdellah
Facebook did have the option to try out the new design, on the release before this latest one. In the end they just pushed it as standard to everyone though.
- Simon Wicks
seriously excited for the FF team, how cool! Can't wait... runs to check the http://beta.friendfeed.com site for a sneak peak? please! :)

Aquariums rule! I always loved the New England Aquarium in Boston. My mom used to take me there when I was little.
- Michelle M
the ones in Oregon and Monterey are great! been to the oregon coast one more times than I can count. :)
- holly #ravingfangirl
Very nice aquariums! But in the end I'm still glad I'm a freediver and can enjoy this in the wild.
- Jorg Jansen
My dad would get yearly passes to Monterey - I want to go to the ATL aquarium SO BAD. It's PHENOMENAL... at least from the pictures!
- Mona Nomura
from IM
YAY! Shedd Aquarium is represented! :)
- Steven Perez
<3 Monterey Bay Aquarium! My family has been members since it first opened
- Tamara
Am I the only one not really impressed by Monterey...?
- Mona Nomura
A friend of mine works there. I asked about how they keep giant octopus contained. She said they put like astroturf along the tops of the tank since their tentacles can't attach to them. Interesting :)
- Rodfather
There are peoples out there who don't like aquariums. We hate these people. :) Only one of those I haven't been too is Oregon, now I have a reason to use the Long Beach to Portland flights just added. I wasn't that impressed with Shedd but I've been to so many they are starting to blur.
- SteVe "Beefy Miracle" C
I love them...my cousin's in Atlanta. I need to get on that.
- Derrick
D - meet you there? We can romp ATL!
- Mona Nomura
Pea - DC isn't that far from the ATL!
- Mona Nomura
Mona: try again, it changes all the time. Reach out and I might be able to secure some tickets for you.
- Rick Bucich
Agree with Shevonne. The Oregon one looks really good. So does the one in Chicago. I need to go see more aquariums.
- Bindu Reddy
Monterey, Rick? Wow that's a kind offer!
- Mona Nomura
that is really great. I have not ever been in US :'(
- Alp
We TOTALLY should - actually, I should be the one to go to DC. Shevonne's there, too!
- Mona Nomura
@Mona Inner Harbor is in Baltimore and it's amazing, so Ill be down to go!
- Shevonne
If I go out there, we are partying - and cramming our faces with Ben's Chili. Omg I'm hungry.
- Mona Nomura
@Mona I went there and didn't care for it. I guess I wasn't drunk enough to enjoy it. ;)
- Shevonne
I used to love the aquarium in New Orleans, but I haven't been back since Katrina. I wonder if it's doing ok...
- iTad
You don't like Ben's Chili?! They have THE BEST hot dogs.
- Mona Nomura
@Mona Ill try it again. Maybe it was an off day
- Shevonne
I almost went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, but we ran out of time. Checked out the Field Museum and the Planetarium which were cool too.
- James Ferguson
Me, you, and Shevonne would be nothing but trouble - toss Derrick in the mix and it will be MAYHEM. Omg, Erin is going to be there soon, too. :O
- Mona Nomura
Tad, we went the month before the hurricane. They lost everything except some dolphins that escaped to the river. I believe the aquarium reopened since with new fishies.
- SteVe "Beefy Miracle" C
@Mona Feel sorry for any city that has the four of us there at the same time! haha
- Shevonne
Totally - but I need to get my ass out to DC.
- Mona Nomura
She goes out there once every few months I think - for work.
- Mona Nomura
Mona: Absolutely let me know next time you're out west.
- Rick Bucich
Bay Area Friendfeeders Field Trip to Monterey Aquarium! Who's with me??
- Chieze Okoye
Well if you go to Ben's chili bowl, you will have to go for dinner so u can have lunch @ the Inner Harbor. Awesome crab over there. Yummy ... You all just hope the DC meetup isn't when I come through to visit ... And the Baltimore Aquarium is very nice. Should be on this list.
- Amani
Omg a wedding in an aquarium - that would be SO sweet.
- Mona Nomura
*imagines snarky dolphins heckling the wedding*
