So today, my mom and I went to the local dollar store and bought a crapload of school supplies, which we are boxing up and sending to an inner city first grade class. We are going to keep them in supplies this year. You don't need a fancy organized charity or even a Twitter drive to make a difference. Just Do It.
Great idea. Although it could be a fun thing to organize and do with friends - but definitely bypass "the system." Sending email to "book club" now.

Thanks guys. It felt totally great to do!

Dave and I had a blast buying school supplies last year: we got all the stuff we wanted and couldn't afford when we were kids...

School supplies for Zambian children: http://cecilysfund.org/ (Sorry, but I felt this was a good post to promote it.)

Elvind - promote it away! Another thing my mom has been doing for years is making quilts, toys, handcrafts and sending them to an AIDs orphanage in South Africa. She and five of her friends send them to the kids and have sold the stuff stateside and have raised around $25,000 all on their own to send to the orphanages to help the kids. I am not that crafty, but I help with legal, graphic design and the selling of the stuff at their sales. Another thing she just does. There is so much that you can Just Do.

Great idea and my congrats. You are making a difference! Good show! :-)

Isn't there a website where you can submit pictures of photo-stealers? This should totally be submitted. || Edit: Found it. http://thisisphotobomb.com/

...it was only after Chipper received his prints from the local PhotoMat that he realized two humans had snuck into the background of his lakeview self-portrait.

Reminds me of my grandmothers drawings and paintings we discovered after she passed. This is a good thing, she was a great artist in the bay area. Thanks for sharing.

"Big news today, Facebook has acquired FriendFeed. Overall this is a huge win for Facebook, and a super smart buy. But what happens to FriendFeed?"

@Jim that is why the brother stayed behind, he's guarding the office. ;) Actually that sounds like a pretty cool job title, FriendFeed Guard.
