Does anyone know how to split test a sale offer in the side bar of a Wordpress blog? I would really like to know, but have not yet found an answer after around 4 hours of trial and error....
I don't... I thought about that myself... Have you looked for a plug in that gives it the capability? - Michael Bunata
There are a bunch of wordpress plugins to allow Google Website Optimizer to work. However, none allow tests on the side bar offer. - Tim Brennan
something like an ad rotator? http://wordpress.org/extend... - Allison
Ad Rotator doesn't seem to be trackable. I want to be able to combine it with google analytics - Tim Brennan
if each goes to a separate version of the landing page.... - Allison
yes, but I don't think it will work with a sale offer in the side bar - Tim Brennan
You would have to test this, but use the Ads Rotator script http://kpumuk.info/project... and link your ad(s) to go through a redirect page that you could have as a goal in analytics. When your ad(s) are clicked on they would go through the redirect page which would log in your analytics goal and land the potential customer on the landing/sales page. - Ron"micronet"Harwood
Thanks I have been searching for this type of ad rotator script to display multiple banners from a pool of affiliate banners. - TrafficBug
Does that script attach a cookie? If not I guess I would need to set up the ads with different redirect links in order to track it. That brings up another question - I heard that pretty links are not trackable in google analytics, is that true? - Tim Brennan
@TrafficBug Hope it works out for you :) - Ron"micronet"Harwood
@Tim I would just have an ad image that links to a redirect page (php) with your affilate link as the redirect. That should credit you for the sale if one happens. Your analytics goal (which would be the redirect page) would show a hit triggered from the redirect page pass through. Or...you possible could use a 1x1 pixel on the redirect page ( I would use a slight delayed redirect) and... more... - Ron"micronet"Harwood
Thanks for your advice, Ron. I'll try that out... - Tim Brennan

Double Hmmmmm. Wonder how this would fit with the FTC. It's a bit hard to add to your Tweet that this is a paid promotion (only 140 characters after all) but if your followers have no idea this is not a genuine recommendation!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Lisa

Leo Laporte Makes $1.5 Million Per Year from Podcasting [Video]
"Laporte’s TWiT (This Week in Tech) network does $1.5 million in revenue per year, doubling yearly. His costs, however, are more impressive: it only takes $350,000 per year to run the business with 7 employees." I have only just recently start having a look in wp-admin usually I post via WPD or Market Samuari does anyone know why it say I have 1 page (which is a contact page) should there not be 2 pages a contact page and a home page? Sorry I know very little about wordpress :)
All is as should be. WP does not usually list a home page, only other pages that you create or that are part of a theme which alot of times is an about page or contact page. Your index.php is your home page and is by default always considered present. - Ron"micronet"Harwood
Thanks Ron I've bought myself wordpress for dummies so hopefully I will be able to get a grip on it, cheers for helping - Groobers
snap, I've just got WP for dummies too - Isha (Marysia)
Isha we can be dummies together, shame a 30dcer with wordpress skills did not have a site teaching about wordpress and had that book as the affiliate product, just think they could had two sales straight away and I bet many more! - Groobers
Well I've read quite a bit of it already & haven't found anything useful yet. Will report back again. - Isha (Marysia)
If you imagine your wordpress blog as a roll of toilet paper, the first thing anyone sees is the first sheet on that toilet paper (latest blog post or stickied blog post). Pages are stand alone hand towels that are on their individual rails, up on the wall and away from the toilet paper, but still accessible.....does that make sense? The toilet paper is the visible bit :) - Allison
There's a crucial lesson for Wordpress here : always keep a spare one in the same room. - Andy Roberts
Does that mean fancy towels are not going to help then if the toilet paper is the cheap and nasty kind, only have the double soft quilted variety and then worry about the hand towel coordination? - Groobers
Groobers I like that. - Isha (Marysia)
If the pattern in the toilet paper is interesting people will naturally want to check the quality of the handtowels. Just to get a feel of who owns this bathroom anyway - Allison
When unrolling, watch out for the sticky post at the top. - Andy Roberts
This is turning into a great thread - seems to me that metaphors like this could be a lot more meaningful than the standard way of giving tips - thank you Allison (and Andy)! - Isha (Marysia)
