The Mango Cafe in Palo Alto served mild, jerked, or extra jerked. They would put on latex gloves before bringing out an extra jerked plate. I couldn't handle the extra jerked, too much pain.

I did warn you. I'll go easy on the pepper next time! Cute pic.

I don't know all that much about it, actually. I got a message on LinkedIn from a recruiter asking me if I knew anyone that had a fairly niche-y skill set since I was in the Greenville area. I responded that *I* did but might not have the length of experience the client required and offered a suggestion of where he could advertise the position. Apparently that was enough to get him to actually look at my profile and he'd like to talk to me about it...
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Good luck! I hope that once you talk with the recruiter, you both find that you're a good fit!
- vicster is...
If it's the position I think it is, I know it's something I can do. I just have to get my foot in the door and prove it.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Good luck with the interview tomorrow. Hopefully, it will result in an early Christmas present!
- Anne Bouey
I hope so Anne! Turns out my dad's pre-test interview for therapy got shifted back tomorrow morning so I have to do that first. If I wind up playing phone tag with the gent about the job again, I'm going to offer to meet up with him over lunch. Nothing like tasty noms to put someone in the hiring mood!
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Hope this goes well - fingers are still crossed!
- WorldofHiglet
Well, I played phone tag with the gent earlier today but just got done with a 27 minute phone conversation with him. He seemed intrigued (and specifically complimented my phone demeanor) and is sending me more information about the position. I'm not exactly qualified for it per se, but I know it's something I can do well. My job at this point is to make myself look like an undiscovered gem *shines her facets*
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Sounds promising - I really hope they snap you up. And, if I may say so, your facets are looking particularly alluring today....
- WorldofHiglet
You've been discovered now; he just doesn't know what kind of gem he's found yet. Shine!

Both Birthday and New Year wishes for ya Barry - Have a great day and good year!

Found Another Reason I Don't Like Twitter: I reeeeeeeeeally enjoy correct sentence structure... My parents didn't drop a serious amount of coin on English tutors for me to kafutz in 140 characters. Spending 5 minutes rewriting two sentences because you're 3 characters over sucks balls...
We share exactly the same feelings about Twitter.
- Tom Awtry
I mostly agree, but to play devil's advocate, I would say you could improve your skills by attempting to create a coherent statement in 140 characters. And I mean a statement with out IM type abbreviations, and stuff like that.
- Michelle Martinez
That is true Michelle, but I focus more on getting the message across then lyrical gymnastics. I'm commenting on a hockey fight at 12:30am, not writing Shakespear or haiku :)

And the worse thing is, if you aim to get retweeted (which seems to be the circle-jerk currency of the day) you have to take into account your username etc...

Been asking this for 2 years, and no one has even looked at me long enough to attempt an answer, but does anyone have a damn clue why the 140 character limit exists?
- Matthew DeVries
Text messages were limited to 140 characters. Twitter was built to utilize the SMS structure. It has evolved since that time, but the limit remained.
- Heather Solos
If that's the truth, then that is beyond silly. SMS translation software hasn't been limited like that in forever. Look at Google Voice, it always takes people's names into the message, and just splits the message into multiple pieces if it has to.
- Matthew DeVries
The SMS limit is actually 160 7-bit characters, as specified in GSM 3.40 back in 1985. Twitter reserves 20 characters for your name. Many if not most phones support more now e.g. splitting longer text into multiple messages, but I think if you want to maintain compatibility with *everything* that uses SMS, you have to stick to 160.
- Ken Sheppardson
Or perhaps Twitter is the headline and a link? You know, for SEO and marketing gurus...
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
140 character limit is rubbish. Thank goodness for FriendFeed! :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I actually enjoy the challenge of having to prune down a thought into grammatically correct sentences for Twitter. It's like writing a haiku.
- Akiva Moskovitz
People of the Commonwealth nations are like the Mimbrates, and love their flowery adjectives.
- Matthew DeVries
+1 Akiva. It's fun trying to find just the right words and structure to say what I want to say succinctly enough for Twitter. When I really, really can't, then I switch to FriendFeed. But Twitter makes you focus on what's really important about what you want to say. If I taught composition, I'd use Twitter in my curriculum.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Akiva, I love haiku like no one's business but it's a bitch to hold a conversation in... Some statements just don't require or warrant that level of craftsmanship.

You two on the same thread is a FF spectator sport for me. Love it.
- SAM
Lack of knowledge, Alex? I'm schooling you.
- Cristo
SAM, good to know someone's entertained. :)
- Cristo
You aren't schooling me. Your lack of knowledge on automation and management is why you write posts and then don't like the response you get.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, I'm leaning towards others for my automation education. No offense. :)
- Cristo
And you still won't get to where you want to go by yourself. No offense.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, so are you in the "only installers can do it" camp or the "it isn't worth doing" camp?
- Cristo
Only installers can do it. I worked for a building management system installer and know what goes in to building automation. It is very unlikely that someone who hasn't gone through an extensive amount of training on the subject could do it. It takes a lot of knowledge over many disciplines to do this sort of work. So while I don't doubt that it will keep you occupied, at the end of the day you are going to have to turn to an installation company to get what you want done.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, would you have said the same for the multi-zone media work I've done?
- Cristo
No...different ballgame completely. Although even there you had to have someone do the wiring and wall patchwork.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, yes I hire people to do work for me using my design. What is wrong with that? I suppose if I did the drywalling myself, you'd complain that I didn't manufacture it.
- Cristo
Well, I think that you'll find that you'll have to take more of a backseat when having someone automate your house. And hopefully you find a very patient installer because you will be very high maintenance on this particular project.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, can you tell me what can be automated and how?
- Cristo
I don't even believe this is a real project, I think it's just an excuse to talk about money and different cables
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Andrizzle, you got it all figured out. Not only that, but itblogger is just another one of my accounts.
- Cristo
Alex, why would I ask if I knew? I'm not testing you, I'm seeing whether there is anything worth automating. Seems like much of what I want to do can't be done.
- Cristo
I think that most of what you want to do can be done, it just will be expensive. Most consumer electronics that have wireless controls are not intelligent and have no feedback mechanisms for what state they are in, so you have to bolt on devices that track the state of devices under control.
- Alex Scoble
That's not very specific. What appliances in the kitchen or laundry room can I automate?
- Cristo
The good news is that at least I know for sure 2010 will be completely different.

My ex-wife sent me that one today! 2009 sucked for both of us in many, many ways. 2010 looks to be a better year for the both of us.

they were bored, I was bored. I ended up thinking about (because the movie was not engaging) how the virtual world would work well for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 1910 and how, in this version, Holmes was Batman, Watson was Alfred, Irene was Catwoman and Lord Blackwood was Ra's al Ghul
- RAPatton
They've never fallen asleep during a movie before and this was a 5pm show
- RAPatton
there are scenes that are fine, but they also waste time showing Holmes ability to leverage his mind as a fighter, like Batman, which is fine, but they do it twice and apparently, those techniques don't work when you have to fight really big french guys. Also, when you fight really big french guys, no ones ever thinks to sweep the knee. If only holmes had Kreese as his sensei
- RAPatton
Derrick, lots of people liked it, I am just not one of them, and there are good things about it. I think the script was solid, I just don't think that Guy R did much with it

I thought Gladiator was the worst piece of ish in the world, but everyone and my mom enjoyed the heck out of it. Every once in awhile, we all view a flick way differently than our peers (and the world).

That's how I feel about The Matrix. Apparently that makes me some kind of freak of nature among my other geek-like friends.

I'm kinda meh about The Matrix....not a huge deal but it was ok. Hated it when I saw it in the theaters.
- Nurse Katie
When I was in film school the movie du jour that was changing everyone's life was Fight Club. I thought it was merely ok.
- Derrick
I really like Ritchie and Downey and Holmes but that trailer makes it look like two hours of Brad Pitt's Pikey Boxing Revisited.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
I thought Sherlock Holmes, Gladiator, AND The Matrix were boring. :D SH had some good moments, though.
- Alix Whitmire
I loved it a little bit, and not just because of the eye candy.
- cecily
My reaction to Sherlock Holmes was similar to Robert's. Good story but something about it dragged.

Wow. I guess they didn't like it then huh? =) Must admit, I enjoyed it very much...

Looks like hours are being cut at work. I think it's time to revise the resumes on all fronts and get to work finding a better job. I'm fucking tired of this shit.
My father-in-law and I were talking about this just the other day. He met the guy (or one of the guys) who are doing this. Interesting but is it really cost effective considering you have to cut up, reinforce, and insulate each container?
- Akiva Moskovitz
I've seen a lot of these on the internet... We're considering using one as a sustainable cottage out on Moosicorn one of these days. We're trying to make sure all the cottages are educational and architecturally very different. Getting it to look good out there will be a challenge, but we're excited about it.
- SAM
And Akiva I think it really depends on the environment you using it in. Insulation and fabrication costs would be much more feasible in a moderate climate than they would be in extreme weather conditions. Also depends on the complexity of the structure. If you are only using 1-3 containers as I have more typically seen and aren't putting in all the bells and whistles you could do these very afford-ably.
- SAM
CAJ is living in a container like this in Afghanistan right now. He's been posting pictures and info about it: http://friendfeed.com/iphwin
- Rochelle
Good points, SAM. I imagine that if you kept the scale small, as you point out, this might be an effective way to recycle these things rather than just crushing them and then melting them down.

That's about the exact pose my dogs have been in today. When they're not pestering to go out or for attention. That's the best thing about picking them up from the boarders. They are clingy and want a lot of love.

"Watching this video for at least the fifth time brought to mind a few things that always surface in conversations about what girls really want in a game. While it feels almost sacrilegious to criticize the work of one of the first people to re-evaluate who plays games and why, Brenda Laurel's one TED talk cannot be the be-all, end-all of discussions on girls and video games."
- Jennifer Dittrich
"Laurel asked us to listen to the voices of girls - but what the girls are saying and the final result didn't exactly match. The selections she showed during her TED talk appeared to be very different from what girls were asking for - a game that didn't pander to gender stereotypes. However, as Laurel explains in "Notes from a Utopian Entrepreneur," many girls really enjoyed the Rockett...

I like the main point of the article: separating "girl" and "boy" gamers isn't very helpful. Neither group is monolithic, and both have varied interests. Finding out what both groups want more of will make for better games overall.
