"As I see it folks have two choices: 1) Jailbreak their iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS and deal with not having the latest Apple OS for a few weeks or 2) Update and be content with a locked phone. It's quite simple really. Thanks for the great work that you do at devteam. My iPhone is hacked so I can background apps. It's great. Thanks guys!"
- aminorjourney
Working on installing mine now... The progress bar is nearly finished!
- aminorjourney
been on it for weeks and I gota say I like it, but the wait now continues until we have app developers updating their apps and getting push working!
- Kyle Saric
I still get the "2.2.1 is the current version".
- Sean Ryder
Update finished installing for me. Now iTunes is just backing up my iPhone.
- Troy Ryder
downloaded 3.0 for the touch, and it works great! nice to have landscape and copy and paste functionality
- Jon mclaughlin
Sean, unplug your phone, relaunch iTunes. I hear that works for some
- Dekz
Yeah, now where is an update from BeejiveIM and IM+ for push?
- Kevin Whalen
Productivity across the world just took a dive :-)
- Bryan Lyle
Kevin: their app store app was submitted for updates but it's still not in the store. I love BeeJiveIM too, and it's ran pretty weird on all the 3.0 betas.
- Dan Hendricks
Now I just need to figure out a way to get out of my Verizon contract so I can port over to At&T with a 3GS
- Jon mclaughlin
I'll be downloading my update for my iPod tonight at 5:30PM Eastern time. I'm counting the minutes!
- Mike Lewis
Have fun everyone. 3.0 is a blast. Been playing with the GM Seed for devs a couple of days now. Very nice upgrade!
- Jeremy Heslop
The GM seed and the now downloadable version has the same build number: 7A341
- David Jack Wange Olrik
Downloading mine too. Had to upgrade iTunes to 8.2 first ... annoying 'Updating Library' function taking a half hour before I can proceed to the 3.0 install.
- Dale Dietrich
Leo, have you seen AT&T has revised it's upgrade requirements. 3G owners who are up before the end of Sept can get standard prices. http://friendfeed.com/chilima...
- ChiliMac
Does anyone know if the 3GS will have capability of Blackberry Redirect? Can't afford to lose my work email but want to get an iPhone
- Jon mclaughlin
Anyone know if you can share the update file with another computer? Both me and the wife have iPhones and it seems silly for us both to download it?
- Jason Roseweir
4:27am here. 3rd attempt at downloading. keep getting an "unknown error" halfway through downloading. If it doesn't work this time, I'll take the laptop into work and try from there in a couple of hours.
- Ben Short
Heck Leo the iphone guys designed it to do that. I read it would be seemless. I wonder about any apple infringement? I'm sure they thought it through
- Rock
anyone know when the pre comes to australia?
- Bill Thomas
Sounds like the Pre has an identity crisis. ☺
- Jim Lecter
Now Leo I still maintain you recommended the Storm and I hope you don't do this to me again. Please. Don't get mad I just hang on your recommendations and just maybe I heard wrong.
- Rock
Awesome... Wonder if Apple will have anything to say about this.
- Jeff Matchett
Well it's supposed to. The USB identifier is the same as an iPod.
- Dave Zawislak
Does the handset feel cheap? Every review I've seen so far said that the sliding mechanism felt loose.
- Ryan Whitwam
rock: didnt leo strongly dislike the storm.
- Anton Tanderup
I'm headed to the sprint store now and demanding one today. I know they have it in stock now. If I succeed I will let you know
- Rock
That's probably a bad move on Palm's part. They should've done what other 3rd party players did get an ID instead of trying to pretend to be an iPod. I bet Apple could take legal action on this issue and win.
- Mack McCoy
I bet this will last until the next system update from Apple :)
- Bryan Lyle
Crazy - wonder if Apple is going to drop the hammer on this soon? Can Palm be sued under the DMCA for this?
- Mike
Not at all Ryan. It feels great. Palm has hit a home run. I think there are some software flaws - it could be a tad more responsive - but those are easily fixed. I'm buying one tomorrow.
- Leo Laporte
Have heard other people say the same. The Pre Hack
- Asgeir
Leo you have Paul Thurott on now... Get on line show us.
- Rock
Nicholas. Disagree. How could this not be intellectual theft? All the Palm did was hire a hundred fifty Apple people. Rubenstein must've taken some magic Apple dust with him, too. I hope the lawyers don't give Palmista's too many nightmares.
- Phil Boiarski
Looks like photos, unprotected music, and podcasts sync. Not Audible books.
- Leo Laporte
I don't think an iTunes update is going to bork this. If iTunes is recognising iPods based on USB IDs, and the Pre is pushing an iPod USB ID for it's mass storage device, then iTunes updates won't be able to do anything about it without breaking compatibility with iPods that use this USB ID. Taking Palm to court, on the other hand, might do the same thing from a different direction.
- Andy Bold
There's a PalmPre Unboxing on the schedule for 9pm (Pacific) tonight.
- Matthew
Leo: Do you think the Palm Pre is going to be good competition against the iPhone?
- Jason Hansen
With only 8GB's of storage, who cares if it syncs with iTunes. Not like I'd be using it as an iPod.
- Jeff Self
Just thing of all the money apple can make from Palm Pre sales
- Brian Cowie
I was able to get my hands on a Pre for an hour yesterday. As an iphone owner since day 1 I'm very impressed. It has all the glitz and glamour of the iphone with the 2.0 software. ( plus cut, copy and paste and the ability to run multiple apps. Oh yeah and a dedicated keyboard too. All the features worked really well, especially synergy. The calendar app on the Pre makes the iphones implementation look like a really bad try.
- Micheal Weihrouch
that's pretty funny Leo! It looks like a great device. Can't wait too hear what you think about it.
- Kevin M Lindow
Yea it is suppose to be able sync (for now) I think. I seem to remember reading something about it.
- Shawn Snodgrass
The Pre USB hack also includes the fact it is made by Palm in the USB ID so it would be easy for Apple to block it. DVD John discovered how they did it
- Iain
Oohhhh, Leo... If you can copy DRM free music to the Pre, is Palm condoning piracy?? ;)
- Stan Augustyniewicz
Stan, DRM free music is music that doesn't have DRM (like the amazon store, the iTunes store since the recent change, and other music stores) Loe was just saying that his DRM music didn't transfer over to the Pre
- Chris Heath
Hey, Leo, can you and/or the cottage crew do some sort of evaluation on Palm Pre battery life vs number of apps running in the background?
- Stan Augustyniewicz
from BuddyFeed
Yeah... I don't think Apple are going to let that one slide...
- aminorjourney
*Your* Pre Leo? I thought you just had it on loan for review purposes for a week?
- David Bradley
"Paul, I'm sorry you feel my reviewing skills aren't up to scratch. But at the end of the day, any car which is open for a test-drive needs to be in good condition. Poor test-drives lead to less sales. Any vehicle, whatever it's powered by, needs to be good on the day of a test-drive. And yes, I don't deal with much in the way of technical jargon because most people out there are more interested in how a vehicle drives and feels than what's under the hood. I'd also like to point out that as someone who has worked on her own cars for many years, both petrol based, electric and plug in hybrid, I'm not all that technically literate. Perhaps you should read my profile and about some of the EVs and PHEVs I've worked on. Essentially at the end of the day the vehicle overheated. It should not have done. I've since chatted to the ECC who have agreed to let me back to do another test drive at a future date - One which I hope to video and one which I hope will help equalise the negative review I..."
- aminorjourney
"Blomdar, I did say in the review that I'm hoping to return and try the vehicle again. I really do hope that my experiences yesterday weren't indicative of the car and really do believe that it was a freak incident."
- aminorjourney
"Hi verdict. My aim, when reporting about cars, is to give a realistic representation of what happened when I drove it. And yes, I do try to inject a bit of my own style. I'm sorry if you didn't like it. As for Nürburgring times - how does this help someone looking for a city runabout? Do they really care how fast the car got around a course they'll never drive themselves, or perform in a race situation? No. They want to know if it's reliable, well-priced and what living with the car will be like. Things like trim finish, in-car features and luggage space are probably more important on a daily basis than how fast it goes around a race-track. Perhaps we can agree to disagree. Jeremy Clarkson appears to be the kind of reviewer you may prefer. I'm not him! Nikki."

"Waiting a few minutes to fill up isn't uncommon, but there's no way of waiting in line for the charging unless you pull up to a meter and sit there... :("
- aminorjourney
"Fantastic. Thanks for that. I've only ever riden the first gen Vectrix, so I don't have the VX-1 to compare it to. Do you prefer the style of the Vectrix to the Zero S? Great to have another opinion. Just why I blog. Thanks!"
- aminorjourney
"Exactly. I would rather be proven wrong and see a fantastic new EV than tell everyone about an EV which never actually materialises. I hope my apology is big enough! Slightly frustrating is the person who commented on another post saying I was wrong and had too much free time, even though I'd posted this retraction. Ah well. My mistake!"
- aminorjourney
"Actually, I've just written a post (about two hours ago) setting the record straight and apologizing. I'm hoping that you saw that one too! As for the free time. I suspect not. I generally start my day at 6am and finish at 11pm... ;) Thanks for the comments."

aminorjourney.com : There's a new EV on the block. Should the G-Wiz be worried, or is that a photoshopped exhaust? - http://www.aminorjourney.com/2009...
"It's quite strange. I was stuck behind a black C1 today. I had a good look at the rear while I waited in traffic. And funnily enough, the muffler sits parallel with the license plate. I think it's that which has been blocked off by the photoshop blur. What do you think?"

"I think more of a problem with it all is that Honda don't really want to make hybrids or plug ins. They're sold on the Hydrogen fuel cell and seem a little blinkered I often wonder why Honda seem so reluctant to follow the plug in route. Perhaps they have some connection to the Hydrogen industry we don't know about. Toyota, on the other hand, do seem much more pro EV and pro plug in. RAV4EV aside, of course. Do you think that GM will actually continue with the tech, or do you see it branching off and being brought up by an independent company in an elaborate asset-stripping exercise?"
- aminorjourney
"Agreed. Even with the pack I've got in my Prius (two additional original batteries in parallel with the stock one) the price is so small to expand the original pack by 300% to 3.5KWH that I can't imagine why Toyota would want to bother wish such a small pack at the factory. 10KWH would only add a tiny bit to the price if it was mass-produced, which of course, all Toyotas are..."
- aminorjourney
"This is really troubling news. Where did you find out the extra information? I did try but hit a bit of a brick wall. If non-mainstream cars aren't included then we really are up the creek without a paddle. Perhaps this is the time we step up to the plate and let the UK government know that in order for the plan to work we really do need more incentive, more choice and a quicker start. After all, 2011 is still two years away... I think you've just given me the next post today. Thanks."
- aminorjourney
"Isn't it funny how the two comments I made on the telegraph's website as a Pro EV enthusiast didn't get approved. Hmmm. Biased, unbalnaced reporting, anyone?"
- aminorjourney
"More DIY projects? Absolutely! I was going to do some more anyway. And for those who are curious, my friend's VW golf City Stromer is now running only 10 days after he brought it back from a two year off-road sabbatical in London! It's going to get a little post of it's own :) I'm also hoping that I can blog extensively on any other future EV projects as well as the completion of my PHEV project - which still needs to be properly finished!"
- aminorjourney
"Of course, this article makes sweeping generalizations, which is why I posted. It is nice to have the discussion though! It is a lot cheaper to live out of a town or city center. My answer to this (being someone who wouldn't want to live on main street, anywhere) is for people to shop more locally and think about living somewhere near to where they want to be (wherever possible, of course)."
- aminorjourney
"I hear that... Although to be honest, we'll be just as good with LiFePo4 if we can find enough raw material to make it! The NiMH have their own problems too, but as I use them now I must admit I quite like them :)"
- aminorjourney
"Oh yes, absolutely. And I know if the trip were reversed we'd probably be doing the same thing (but in a plug in of course!) My real alarm though is that how we (or most of us) quite unwittingly fall into the trap of making small, unnecessary trips on a regular basis without really thinking about how or why we're making them. While I've been here I've seen people drive across a parking lot to get from one shop to the next, just like I've witnessed many times in the UK. I think those of us who drive can all stop and think about responsible car use and maybe make alternative arrangements (or buy an alternative form of transport) for those really short trips."
