“Canon’s newly developed Hybrid IS technology optimally compensates for angular camera shake (rotational) and shift camera shake (linear). Sudden changes in camera angle can cause significant blur in images taken during standard shooting, whereas blur caused by shift-based shaking, when a camera moves parallel to the subject, is more pronounced in macro and other close-up photography.”

This is in the Powershot S95 that I just got. Whee!

I took some photos today without a tripod and so far, no noticeable motion blur anywhere. I'm quite happy with this camera. However, today's shots were outdoors, and I need to try more indoor shots to see how much blur I see.

My verdict over the past year: YES this is pretty good. Previous pocket cameras I'd take 2-3 shots of each thing just to make sure I got a clear shot. The S95, I'm taking one shot most of the time. Even at maximum zoom handheld vs tripod makes no difference most of the time.
