"Even if you are not a voyeur, hearing what goes on behind closed doors in the corporate world is interesting. In this case the story is also useful. There are many companies around the world that attempt to globalize their products but miss something. In this case ICQ, an excellent early product got a chance for a second life. This is not an easy thing to do, specially in technology."

"Fast and drastic changes are not just something we see today. It has been happening for a long time and military strategists can teach us a few good stories."

"The Honda story in incredible. I just read about how the founder, and engineer, created the company from nothing with energy and enthusiasm. This is a story worth reading, and it just happened in the last 50 years, incredible."

"I think that "hope" is the first phase of marketing. After hope comes all the interesting stuff: ideas, information, customization... Ford after 100 sells "customization" - that's why they need 20+ base designs and 100 models. Microsoft after 6 windows and office versions sells "ideas" and "information" - how to write fancier letters and format better presentations. How to actually "work" on a spreadsheet. We are simply unable to learn everything we "want" - so people package tools and info and than we "buy" it. The big problem is what you noticed, not many people want to do the next thing "after" hope. American culture is steeped with "go to the next thing" and leave the past behind. But this is why so many of the 100+ year systems you built are in desperate need of renovation. The labor system is broken hopelessly, so is the financial system and take a look at the education and legal systems. But than again, we can fall back at the "hope" idea - we got Obama now, it is all going to..."

"if "The" is an article (bill of rights) - here is a format for this 'law' If your first name is "The" - it supersedes middle "The" cases: "The King" (French, English, Memphis (Elvis), President (Bush, Obama) )"

"As a strategy consultant this is one of the most interesting articles I have seen recently. It is also interesting because Porter has been more of a "traditional" thinker and this seems to be a departure. Maybe HBS and it's thinking professors do have the ingenuity and creativity to get America back on the right track. But take a look at the college graduate statistics. In Israel where I live we don't think that there are enough graduates and thinkers yet we do what America has done, taking the money away from higher institutions. I am surprised that this is not getting lots of attention, but than again, thinking seriously about difficult problems rarely does until it's too late :-0"

"I think that what’s called “social media” and all Web2.0 media in general simply is not sold! I mean sold in a sense of “Marketing campaigns can be measured with all kinds of analytics programs. Yet Social Media is more about “conversations” with …” My college days remind me that just about every “marketing measurement” started out with a “conversation with a customer”. Anyway, no need for us to quip over silly little things like this. Eventually the “social media” people will get hungry or smart or busy — or all — and will start selling what they have. In some respect Web2.0 is ultimately more measurable than anything out there. But leave that to the geeks to figure out how to do it and the suits to use it and get business."
