Plane crash in NYC captured on real-time web - http://scobleizer.com/2009...
"David: in several ways. 1. Most news does not get covered by the “pros.” 2. News distribution channels are radically changing. When I was a kid we had three channels and a newspaper. Now? We have the web. To me it’s interesting to watch what these might be used for. 3. It lets me triangulate in on the truth a lot faster. If this were on TV I wouldn’t have been warned about it in real time. I might not have known until late tonight. You say that doesn’t matter. I think it does. The speed at which news gets to us all is very important. Maybe not for this story or the one yesterday, but someday it WILL be important. For instance, what if a chemically-toxic cloud were moving toward your house. Or a tornado. Wouldn’t you want to know now rather than in 45 minutes? 4. Even pro news is being impacted by this. The guy who shot this photo with his iPhone and put it on Twitter was on MSNBC within 20 minutes. That is a HUGE change in how the news is gathered and reported." - Robert Scoble
Robert, all good points. I definitely would like to have the uptake on the toxic chem cloud sooner than 45m if possible, please ;) - Melanie Reed
P.S. I am also not discounting all the prayers that were said for the passengers and crew changing the outcome of the story either.:) And I am praising God for that! :) Very happy for all! lol - Melanie Reed
If our future is me watching my computer screen or phone to see if a chemically toxic cloud or tornado is moving towards me, please shoot me now. - Rod Bauer from twhirl
@Melanie Reed, I'm glad someone had the guts to say it: God (notified by all the prayers) - not the pilots - saved all those ppl. - Kirk Skodis from twhirl
Ryan Block
Hmm, read an early report on the crash -- sounds like the pilots saved a LOT of lives.

It's not fair to my family to have to be around me when I'm this grouchy, and we need milk, so I'm going out. Wish me luck.
Me too - and the forecast says we could get another FOOT of the wretched stuff between now and Wednesday :-(. - asiriusgeek

Verizon BlackBerry Storm Return Rate
Further proof I made the right choice. BTW, Verizon responded in the comments. - Mona Nomura
Hmmm... which side to believe? - Yolanda
So you were trying to decide between the iPhone and the Storm? - Yolanda
the bold is better... - Nation Hahn
All platforms, Yo. - Mona Nomura
What were your thoughts on the G1? - Yolanda
To ensure that i am. i would like - istanbuldailyphoto
The G1 (imo) is junky. I don't like the way it feels. Superficial reasons aside, I am am Android fan (the platform), and my next handset will most likely be Android. As for BlackBerry, it's getting left behind and I truly hope they don't end up like Palm/Treo - but I can not go back to hunting and pecking. - Mona Nomura
Android is nice and shows tons of potential, but T-Mo didn't do it justice with HTC's G1 hardware. I kept switching back and forth between hardware and software buttons way too much. Perhaps the Kogan model will offer a better experience: http://www.kogan.com.au/blog... - Kevin C. Tofel
Kevin - It is too bad, since it seems as though Android has so much potential. I am actually excited for Sony/Ericsson and Motorola's Android handsets! - Mona Nomura

Soon we will beat up a VC. News at 11. - Robert Scoble from email
Oh my God that's disturbing. Whether you're a Reagan fan or not, that can't be fun to look at while eating. - Ciaoenrico
Bucks is a Silicon Valley institution, full of wacky stuff. - Robert Scoble
Have you finished the scavenger hunt yet, Robert? - Ken Sheppardson
Okay - when you wrote "The Reagan table" I had this impression of a normal restaurant but with bizarre representations of first couples. lol - Ciaoenrico
Any of that conservatism rubbing off? ;) - John Denver

Going to try to work just from the Eee PC today-from the cloud.
i leave my macbook at the office and bring the eee home in the evenings. it's worked out great! - Sam Harrelson from twhirl
Been "cloud-only" since June 6th on a UMPC. You can do it! :) - Kevin C. Tofel
it's the keyboard! so small - Tris Hussey from twhirl
I have so much to do today before I go on vacation. I have to use the regular laptop for typing speed if nothing else. - Tris Hussey from twhirl
Just shared this with our readers: http://www.jkontherun.com/2008... - Kevin C. Tofel
Thanks Kevin. I'm only on the laptop for the keyboard! The rest I could do in the cloud. Trying to keep the client apps thin as possible. No AIR apps on the Eee, no office (Abiword), no email client (Gmail), no RSS reader (Newsgator and Netvibes). Main client apps will be WLW and the Nikon sw for pics. - Tris Hussey

Microsoft Remote Desktop 2.0 for Mac has been released (been using the beta of this useful app for a while): http://www.microsoft.com/mac...
Good stuff. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not a Mac user myself, but do often do support from a Mac, for PC users. - Bradley McSpinn
one more reason to get myself a Mac... - Benoit Cazenave
This is actually a really good version of the product (though I haven't used the beta). And to think, I was firing up Parallels for the last month just to do the occasional Remote Desktop! :) - Mike Marusin
Yep very cool, we can us this in our BI effort at work. If only VNC would reach to remote desktop then connection to a MSSRS server would be) possible for all clients. Of course really want remote desktop client for iphone ;- - John

Huh. FluidApp (http://fluidapp.com/) is actually pretty cool (build site-specific browser "widgets"). Going to experiment with it.
It looks awesome, but that's odd. I have Firefox as default browser and it always starts up Safari and ther's no way to set it up :P - Jose

Just spent HOURS adding people I follow on Twitter to FriendFeed. BY HAND. There are still gaps. That sucked. Data Portability, anyone?
What was your by hand method? - Patrick Jordan

I'm leaving Twitter for FriendFeed and I'm taking the fish. Who's coming with me? - http://www.jkontherun.com/2008...
Apparently, the fish! :) - Nikos Anagnostou
At this moment, I've decided to stay on Twitter (but keep an eye on FF). I can't help it--I just love Twitter, and (in the grand scheme of things) it's done me no wrong. - John Frenette from twhirl
All good points, although I think we could have thrown 8-tracks in the analogy too. ;) I'm not leaving Twitter completely but as I said in the post: "I'd rather be joined for a conversation than followed for what I say". (or Tweet as the case may be) - Kevin C. Tofel
I'll keep both thanks, you can never belong to too many online social tools...er, can I rethink that? - Craig Thomler
Thanks for following back on FF. Still using Twitter, but you're right about FF. Ciao! - phil baumann
I still like both as well, but do feel as if FF is more and more useful as I learn more about it and pay more attention to it. Need to find more good rooms ... - Patrick Jordan
thanks for helping me realize i should move to friend feed. also good luck on web apps attempt - nick
I had pretty much left Twitter (for FF) during the month of May, BUT have slowly come back to Twitter. Being a "fair weather" fan of Twitter, I'll be back on FF IF "the going gets rough on Twitter" AGAIN! I prefer the conversations on FF, BUT I have MORE "company" on Twitter! - Thomas Ho
I'm right there with you Thomas: 7x more folks on Twitter for me than FF. But, I keep coming back to the Gretzky quote: "Skate to where the puck is going, not to where it is" Hopefully, the team follows along. :) - Kevin C. Tofel
I wonder what the new wave of those "just coming on" to the Web 2.0 phenom will do with both Twitter and FF? Educators and Businesses are using and promoting Twitter for targeted purposes now, as my Twine digest updates me weekly with the new directions. I think Van Elsas had a blog highlighting that they both are serving somewhat different purposes. Anyone catch that one? Will Twitter eventually overcome the load or is the "failwhale" going to be our frequent new tweep? ;) Thoughts? - Melanie Reed
I followed Kevin to FriendFeed via Twitter, what's next? BTW, I wish there was some kind of client of Firefox extension to follow FriendFeed - Jose
I don't think this is exactly what Jose wanted...but has anybody tried this plugin for FF/FF? http://mysocial247.com/ - Melanie Reed
Jose, check the tail end of my post. I mention how to run FriendFeed in your FireFox sidebar all day long. It auto-refreshes, which is key. Fresh coversations are much better than stale ones. - Kevin C. Tofel
great article! But the google firefox trick doesn't seem to refresh automatically for me. - David Kanter
Give it at least 5 minutes David. I thought the same at first. Too bad we can't configure the refresh rate. - Kevin C. Tofel
I see the google refresh widget is working. Thanks Kevin! - David Kanter from fftogo
I signed up just so I could comment on your DSLR post ;-)! - asiriusgeek
" "Skate to where the puck is going, not to where it is"" I like that quote Kevin. - Thomas Hawk
Thanks Catherine! It's not helping that Circuit City has the XSi kit on sale for $849 plus 12-months no interest financing. ;) - Kevin C. Tofel
