But I don't WANT a post the most offensive possible while staying safe for work picture with :( as the heading meme! The meme committee forbids it!

chill out people... hardly a bad pic. :o) had to look twice myself to see what the fuss was, so it can't be THAT obvious lol. :o)

How would you precisely phrase this promise? Let's revise and get that language exactly right

Do your balls hang low? do they wabble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knott? Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them over your shoulder like a contenental solgier? Do your nuts hang low?
- Fake Elmo
Nuts or balls, Elmo? (I bet that gets said all the time)
- Josh Haley
Those would be far more impressive than the set dangling from the back of my pickup currently. Is there anything more classy than a scrotum hanging from the back of your car.

this is the thread that keeps on giving whether you want it to or not

"Fondo Colanco is a private ranch that I visited on the day of the Spring castration. We watched about 30 bulls get snipped and then retired to a barn for the day. We stripped the balls from the scrota, taking them to a giant plow set over an open wood fire for searing in oil, garlic, and chiles before parking them between two homemade rolls for hand sandwiches. The scrota were sauteed...

Did you know that during the end credits of Borat, there is a picture like this, of a different woman in a similar hat cupping a bull's balls? I found that very interesting and now am trying to figure out what the real meaning of it all is.
- Josh Haley
from iPhone
the meaning is... wow, never felt balls like it... :P

The journey was arduous, the storms were strenuous, the flurries were frightful-ous. but RAPatton's famous chocolate chip cookies survived the treacherous passage from his house in the midwest to my hot little hands in Sparks, NV! Thank you RAP, they are quite tasty!
Luckily he doesn't use claws. He just rolls around and smushes his face into my hair and my shoulder and is a little crazy. There is a video from my last video. I will find it.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Of course there's a body! See the arm and torso? She's sitting down. She's FREAKY. I turned around because I activated the scary motion sensor babies and this was at face height.

I was tempted to take pictures of toys at the farm supply store today, but didn't. Let's just say that there are all sorts of junior hunting toys. They have a very large selection. The pink guns just about made me puke, though. Not far away from that section they were selling live bunnies. Hmmmmmmm.
- Katy S
Oh. From this angle, she looks a little disembodied. That *would* be freaky....

Haven't books targeted more to little girls already have some feminism in them? I would have to read the books to see if I think it's a good idea or not
- Shevonne
True feminism is just egalitarianism. Our society is chock full of sexism. Girls/women have no problem identifying with male protagonists but for some reason men are supposed to be emasculated by identifying with female protagonists. Thus most movies with male leads are considered mass appeal and those with female leads are considered "chick flicks". I don't think there's any problem with making sure there are books out there with female characters that do something more than waiting around to be rescued.
- Spidra Webster
I don't know how in principle they could be a bad idea - kids who can read, or who are old enough to enjoy being read to, have already been exposed to overwhelming amounts of sexist ideology, so how could an alternative perspective be harmful? Look at the covers of the books, even - why are Pippi and Adventure Annie wearing a dress and a skirt? What kind of adventures can you get into in a skirt, really? :-)
- Amy℠
Ideally, we should get to a point in society where there is a balance of stories that's representative of the diversity of the human race. But we've had years and years of imbalance. There will be years and years of specialist studies and a type of "affirmative action" to make up for lost time. One day, maybe, we'll get to the balance we should have.
- Spidra Webster
feminism is bad for adults. gender engineering is wrong. what is worse is how our Stimulus money is being spent on jobs for women in hurt male industries that women don't do well in when industries that women do well in are growing. Pink color jobs are growing because our country has become docile service oriented industry cows. higher education is now almost 60% women. it isn't just...

I think Pippi had a very positive impact on me as a kid. She's strong-willed and outspoken in a positive way, and she's physically strong and brave. I don't think the Pippi books were crafted to be intentionally feminist, and maybe that's part of the reason they are so positive in their impact.

"The series also highlights the difference between the pursuit of engaging television and the sometimes frenzied efforts of contestants to win, perhaps at the risk of their own health. Doctors, nutritionists and physiologists not affiliated with “The Biggest Loser” express doubt about the program’s regimen of severe caloric restriction and up to six hours a day of strenuous exercise, which cause contestants to sometimes lose more than 15 pounds a week. At least one other contestant has confessed to using dangerous weight-loss techniques, including self-induced dehydration. On the first episode of the current season, two contestants were sent to the hospital, one by airlift after collapsing from heat stroke during a one-mile race. New contestants are entering the show more out of shape. Each of the last two seasons has broken the record for the heaviest contestant ever, at 454 and 476 pounds."

I've always wondered about this - how it could possibly be healthy to lose this much weight so quickly.
- Amy℠
Even that Jillian woman - who apparently is the winning coach every season? - has said that on her new show, her contestants will be held to a 2-pound per week standard, which is safe.

"JD Roth, an executive producer of the series who created its current format, said that while the show was extreme, “it needs to be extreme in my opinion.” “For some of these people this is their last chance,” he said. “And in a country right now that is wrestling with health care issues and the billions of dollars that are spent on obesity issues per year, in a way what a public...

Oh, Laura! {{{{{{{{{{ you }}}}}}}}}} I saw some of my words quoted, and was really touched to be called a new friend. Thank you! And... writing about it is good. My own blog has plenty of angry, whiny, and bitchy posts about coming to terms with illness. *More hugs, and prayers, too!*

Oh, I can be plenty un-positive . . . Just you wait. It's all part of the ups & downs.

Laura, do they use biofeedback at all in treating interstitial cystitis? I'm curious because I was having urinary frequency, which turns out to be an abnormally small bladder, but I thought the biofeedback training I went through was very helpful in managing the urges and pain. Please forgive me if this is totally off base.
- Amy℠
It's not off base at all - as I recall, yes, they do use biofeedback in my specialist's office.
- Laura H.
Welcome to the group, Laura. I'm glad you're here for support... and I'm sorry that you need to be. In my own journey over the last couple years, I'm noticing that I seem to go through the stages of grief (including anger) in cycles. What makes you the angriest?
- Ladybug Heather
I don't know that I've accepted it? I'm angry about food. The best way to treat interstitial cystitis is to follow an incredibly restricted diet - and even though I've had the diagnosis for this long, I haven't been able to do it. It's like my inner five year old is stomping her foot and saying, I don't CARE if it's bad for me, I'm going to eat it anyway. Food has always been a comfort for me, and I feel like the IC is taking that away from me and leaving me without one of my oldest coping mechanisms.
- Laura H.
I can understand that one. I wonder... is it possible to plan some "naughtiness" into your diet? If you're still able to have some of those things you love, if in smaller portions, you may find that a help. I dunno.
- Ladybug Heather
I know that what's angered me the most with my dx (a connective tissue disorder that results in chronic pain) is watching the boundaries of my life close in on me. Well, that and just being in continual, never-ending pain! Many times I've said I'd give just about anything for one day with no pain.
- Ladybug Heather
Heather, I'm glad to say I actually know what Ehlers-Danlos is. I'm a librarian and have been reading library blogs for years now, and one of the more well-known bloggers wrote about having EDS earlier this year.
- Laura H.
Also? I just started rereading the Spoon Theory article. I read it years ago, because, as I recall, one of my friends pointed it to me. Of course, I didn't understand then. I'm trying not to cry, reading it now.

In 1894, a cat named Tibbles killed all the wrens on Stephens Island, New Zealand. Unfortunately, they were the last of their species, Xenicus lyalli. That makes Tibbles the only individual in recorded history to wipe out an entire species singlehanded.
- Christopher Harley
"Believed to be entirely extinct, the Stephen Island Wren has earned a place in local mythos for erroneously being considered the only known species to be entirely wiped out by a single living being." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Yup, I'm kitty crazy!! I made a blue kitty room because of a discussion that we have been having about Indy and Plum and other kitties who have "blue" fur!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Thanks joey! This photo is about a year old, Indy has pudged out a little bit since then. But it's one of my favorites. Indy loves her photo taken, and if I pull out my light box I am required to photograph her before I'm allowed to finish whatever I was originally working on. The light box is the combination of her two favorite things, boxes and having her photo taken!!

"Move over, red wine. Make room for chocolate milk. A new study suggests that regular consumption of skim milk with flavonoid-rich cocoa may reduce inflammation, potentially slowing or preventing development of atherosclerosis. Researchers noted, however, that the effect was not as pronounced as that seen with red wine. Scientists in Barcelona, Spain, recruited 47 volunteers ages 55 and older who were at risk for heart disease. Half were given 20-gram sachets of soluble cocoa powder to drink with skim milk twice a day, while the rest drank plain skim milk. After one month, the groups were switched. Blood tests found that after participants drank chocolate milk twice a day for four weeks, they had significantly lower levels of several inflammatory biomarkers"
- RAPatton
"Participants also had significantly higher levels of good HDL cholesterol after completing the chocolate milk regimen, according to the study, which appears in the November issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and is already online. “Since atherosclerosis is a low-grade inflammatory disease of the arteries, regular cocoa intake seems to prevent or reduce” it, said Dr. Ramón Estruch of the University of Barcelona, the paper’s senior author, adding that more studies were needed."
- RAPatton
Participants probably also had a warm, contended feeling and the urge to have a few cookies as well. :) Can I get mine warm, with maybe a little bit of malt?

"First, we had recipes that utilized the placenta. Now, we have a teddy bear. Supposedly, this is being marketed as a “sustainable” toy. It is actually a kit you can order which will allow you to dry and then mold your own placenta into what is arguably a teddy bear. I really, really wish I was kidding about this."
