Berkman Center fellow, author, and blogger David Weinberger hosts a discussion about "The Authority of Wikipedia" as part of his occasional Web of Ideas series. From David, "An article gains authority just by appearing in the Encyclopedia Britannica. Does it gain authority just by being in Wikipedia? What (if anything) makes a Wikipedia article worthy of belief? How are the sources, criteria and locus of authority changing in the age of the Web?"

From the page: "Hazel Dooney is a young and VERY successful Australian Artist. From the blurb on her website: In December, 2007, Hazel Dooney was the only female artist under 30 with works included in the prestigious auction, Modern and Contemporary Australian Art, held at Christie's in London. In what was a record-setting sale, with major works by Brett Whitely, Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, Sydney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Fred Williams and Tracey Moffat, two modest early works by Dooney fetched over $AU23,000 each. You get the idea. We follow each other on Twitter, we exchange the occasional email. I'm a big fan. There are A LOT of artists online, but very few as smart, interesting, talented, successful or as driven as Hazel, so I thought a "Ten Questions" session would be in order. She kindly agreed to answer."

The transposition of a life lived in contemporary times to the fairy tale world of Once Upon A Time. Not only beautifully written and extremely poignant, but also shares links to a great many wonderful blogs in an imaginative, thought-filled way. I don't expect to read a post that has affected me quite as much as this one has in a very long time.

From the page: "There's been a lot of focus on follower counts, friend counts, subscriber counts, viewer counts and readers as of late. And, those are important metrics the from the standpoint of expanding your impact on the world and potentially, your income. But, sometimes I wonder if we're spending too much time on the wrong metric"

From the page: "What is a zine anyway, I hear you cry? Well, the word zine was created as a short, slang term for a fanzine, but quickly became the term that covers any very small, independent magazine. According to Wikipedia, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier in practice the significant majority are produced in editions of less than 100, and profit is not the primary intent of publication. Right, so why, as a poet, should you buy these things?! "

From the page: "Faces of New York Once in a while I see a person on the street who immediately attracts my attention. I'm fascinated by the appearance of the person and feel a strong urge to walk over and say hi. I found ten, and asked each of them the same question: What do you think about your face?"
