Stross puts the Songsmith debacle into appropriate context. The learning: go big (through product development and marketing) or go small (with an open source "social" release) but the middle road kills.

I recently read this book and found it interesting. Then I came across this blog post about how to apply the notions to marketing. Enjoy!

I wish crafting .ppt presentations was this fun! This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Perhaps I'll dig it up when home at the folks next week. Tick, tick, tick, POP!

I think it would be interesting to study timestamps on social media activities. I notice my FB usage peaks every 30-45 minutes for about 5-10 minutes when engaged in marathon work sessions, especially late night. Obviously, this is a break trend.

The concept is more interesting than the "advertisement." Ping me with your examples of improvising with collaboration tools for art making.

I find this truly compelling and inspiring because I believe in the starfish over the spider, yet also worrisome because I believe in representative government. Ultimately, I am wondering how our learnings helping large corporations effectively use social computing can contribute to helping government do the same thing. What are your thoughts? Please write them here or email me!

I don't know how I missed this juicy bit of news in the month of September, but I was surely pleased to find RWW and GigaOm feeds in the Tech Section of the Times today. Brilliant!

A top 10 of irritating expressions has been compiled by researchers at Oxford University. The long thread of user comments is better than the published list itself!

For those of you asking for my review, check out the one from NYT. I agree with most of it. A few things it doesn't cover... I was completely surprised yet appreciative of Stone's empathetic portrayal of W - not because I do not think Bush is deserving of scorn (because I do) but rather because it would have over simplified things to the point of being like Bush. The review also doesn't mention Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, whose performance is fantastic, especially in light of Powell's endorsement of Obama this morning. The review doesn't mention much about Stone's sendup of Cheney or Rove either. Although it's not heavy handed (and in the case of Rove, likely too light handed), the movie has a few clever scenes about their relationships - "I'm the decider, Cheney, not you" and "What's HE even doing here?" [asked Colin of Rove's presence in a mtg. All in all, it's a fun foray at the movies. (I've run out of room to comment further.)

The first (of 2) sets of photographs from our recent vacation to Baja and Mexico. (The default Flickr text is really annoying. If you know how to get rid of it, let me know.)
