Ugh, Facebook! Why do you disappoint me so?
Probably because you're using it. If you don't use it so much, it won't disappoint you so much. - Gabe

+1 LogEx. 'Isn't it Ironic' is an excellent title because 'it' is a self-reference to the song's title which refers to a song which is not at all ironic. Which is therefore ironic. - Kevin Fox

Congratulations to Aaron and the Mint team! - http://www.techcrunch.com/2009...
Congratulations to Aaron and the Mint team!
"Today, exactly two years after launching at TechCrunch40, I’m excited to announce that Mint.com has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by Intuit for about $170m. ... Mint was built in the Silicon Valley way. It started in my apartment, with Matt Snider and Poornima Vijayashanker. We interviewed the first real “professional,” our VP of Engineering, David Michaels in our kitchen." - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet
Учитывая активность банковской розницы в РФ скоро и у нас будет актуально. - Maxim Tee from iPhone
@maxxt: I'm afraid it would take it too long for services like mint.com to become popular in Russia. People will not entrust a start up with bank account information.... - DS
my emotional response to this is like when yahoo bought flickr... although I understand mint got much more money... but still as an early customer it feels like from people who cared about what they were doing all my sensitive information was sold to an evil corporation.. even understanding that most of the companies are founded to be at some point sold to another doesn't really help (and yeah, I'm glad for Aaron) - earlyadopter
Aaron and the Mint team will most likely benefit from this acquisition but I am not yet sure the Mint users will. Hope Intuit/Mint will prove me wrong... - Philippe

I think this is the best answer for the ultimate question: "Does python needs yet another web framework?" While most of us would say why, when one come across this, a real world proven technology, serving zillions of pages a day, one would say, well, why not. actually, why not even take it an try to integrate out next web app with it? great job! seems like joining FB won't do you any harm ;-) - Tzury Bar Yochay

Ok so I'm shooting ducks here. is that part of the custom pages open to all? - BairdWilliamson
I'm sorry, but this is the lamest thing FF has done (besides sell to Facebook, perhaps). This should not be default, especially when there's a theme that sends a duck flying across pages distracting you from reading them (it's like 1997 all over again). The only upside is that you can turn it off. It's a neat gimmick the first time, but after that it's just lame and becomes a... more... - Tanath
I'm sorry, Tanath, but I 100.000% disagree with you. Don't like it? Turn it off. Me? I love it. - Stephen Mack
Already have - but it shouldn't be default behaviour. - Tanath
Why not? I bet more people love it than hate it. - Stephen Mack
Look, I'm excited that FF is still being worked on too, but this is arguably a step in the wrong direction. There's reasons why MySpace is going down the toilet, and different themes on every page is one of them. I'm inclined to take that bet, just not at this early point because it's mostly die-hard FF addicts that even know of the feature's existence. - Tanath
As long you guys don't f*** with it, I can't see a problem. Why should FF staff avoid a feature only fearing its possible misuse? I'd rather see an option inside FF to explicitly hide user themes, if they get disturbing. - David Schmidt
On or off, I can't see any themes on friendfeed except what I have in my browser's usercontent.css file. It would have been nice to include an "advanced user" feature that could have allowed us to enter in our own custom CSS for designing our own theme, sort of like how LiveJournal allows. That would have not only allowed customizing on friendfeed, it would also fix the problem with... more... - April Russo (app103)

April, that is a good idea. - joey

@joey It was something I suggested over a month ago as a one possible solution to a problem I discovered. http://friendfeed.com/friendf... - April Russo (app103)
Comparisons to MySpace seem off, since custom themes involve only four possibilities (background image, background color, bar color and box color) -- no widgets, no custom HTML, etc. And first and foremost, they can be switched off. How many times do you visit someone else's page on FF anyway? Most of the time is in your home feed or different lists. I just don't get the negativity, when it's a fun and optional feature that you can opt out from ever seeing again in about two seconds. - Stephen Mack
I don't know if I consider customizing a few basic settings is really a "Theme". - Steve de Mena
The correct analogy is to twitter.com user pages, right? - Stephen Mack
Stephen, that was our thinking internally, though we also give a bit more control with the checkboxes. - Kevin Fox
Forcing themes on others is bad. This needs an opt out. Glad I use custom CSS. - Michael W. May
Michael: It DOES have an opt out. If you don't like it please opt out! Click Settings in upper right, you'll see two prominent check boxes regarding theme display. - Stephen Mack
Kevin: Thanks! You're right, you did twitter one better by letting people opt out of seeing customized themes entirely. - Stephen Mack
Michael, just uncheck the "See other people's themes" checkbox under settings and you won't see anyone else's theme. - Dan Hsiao
Stephen's right. Read Bret's comment further up: "[Y]ou can do that by clicking "Settings" and then un-check the "See other people's themes" checkbox" - Bret Taylor - Micah Wittman

You can now get a daily or weekly email digest for anybody's feed on FriendFeed. You'll get a daily or weekly email with the most popular posts from that person's feed. I now get the FriendFeed Feedback posts as a Best of Day email so it doesn't fill up my feed, but I don't miss feedback. I also set up a "Best of Day" email for my "Technology people" friend list so I get a pretty good overview of tech news every day via email. - Bret Taylor
This is a really cool idea Bret, I wish you can make that an RSS feed option as well. I'd be much more likely to read summaries in RSS than in email. - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Neat feature, but it's more focus on big shiney new features, while ignoring the glaring issues in need of polish in the site we currently have. - Matthew DeVries
Very cool. I like how you give us the OPTION rather than sending a daily/weekly digest like other sites *cough* LinkedIn/Facebook *cough* - Johnny

Ahsan: it is somewhat random right now when the emails are sent, but we built in the backend capability to control what time they are sent, and we plan on exposing that control to users in the future. Right now, it is kind of random - sorry! - Bret Taylor
Thanks Bret - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick

Alp: we were not trying to withhold data. Later today the documentation will be updated to reflect the ability to obtain "Best of" for users. The feed id will be USERNAME/summary/N (similar to "Best of" for lists) - Benjamin Golub
Hi Ben, that is pretty funny, I tried that URL earlier today to see if it has been secretly released :) - Paul Kinlan

my inbox might say different, but I like that :-) - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Wow, this is really neat! And it links into the idea I expressed earlier, re: reducing signup friction / enabling limited guest privileges. Imagine if I could embed one of my FF rooms on my personal web site, and enable people to subscribe to that feed by e-mail with just a couple of clicks... rather than saying "you can get e-mail notifications but you have to sign up for Friendfeed first." "sign up" -- though admirably lightweight on FF -- is still a huge barrier. - Adam Lasnik
Love it. - Zachary TG
is there a love button cause I dont like this option I LOVE this option..great work guys - (jeff)isageek
Three options I would like (1) Can I select "top 100" instead of "top 30"? (2) Could I select both "best of day" and "best of week"? (3) How about older timeperiods? I'd love to get an e-mail with stuff from last week or Mar 2009? Start & end dates? Anything to help me read FriendFeed off-line would be great since I spend long periods off-line at festivals (especially during summer time) or overseas. - Awesome job guys! - Mitchell Tsai
Great way to keep up with those you're most interested in; things you don't want to miss. - Diego Barros 
So this works on groups too, cool! But we still cannot see Best of for groups on the site on friends lists. :-( I have several friends lists that include just groups and when I select to view the best of the page it's empty (even though if I got to the individual best of for those groups there are entries there). - Kol Tregaskes

Paul we are really glad that you are making money with your fantastic product. Congratulations. We are just a bit concerned that Facebook will integrate more feeds and real time search and leave the community in the dust. - Keith - @tsudo

You missed one or two important clicks :) - Charlie Anzman
@Jemm Nope! At this point, all you get is a swift kick in the ass ;-) - Brad Williamson

Trying to use up UAL miles on awards. Like using Confederate currency in 1865, except the South actually had goods in its stores.

Controversial Doll Lets Little Girls Pretend to Breast-Feed - Children's Health - FOXNews.com
"The doll — called Bebe Gloton, which translates as “gluttonous baby” — makes sucking noises as it "feeds." - bob from Bookmarklet
"“What’s next?” wrote Eric Ruhalter, a parenting columnist for New Jersey’s Star Ledger. “Bebe Sot — the doll who has a problem with a different kind of bottle, and loses his family, job and feelings of self-worth? Bebe Limp — the male doll who experiences erectile dysfunction? Bebe Cell Mate — a weak, unimposing doll that experiences all the indignation and humiliation of life in prison?" - Ana

Official Google Reader Blog: PubSubHubbub support for Reader shared items - http://googlereader.blogspot.com/2009...
"One place that takes advantage of this pinging is FriendFeed. This means if you have added your shared items to your FriendFeed account, you and your friends will see them there within a few seconds the "Share" link being pressed in Reader (special thanks to FriendFeeder Benjamin Golub for making sure the experience was as smooth as possible)." - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet
Ben, you rock as usual - Bret Taylor
PubSubHubbub is awesome. I've noticed that, thanks to FriendFeed and Feedburner supporting PubSubHubbub, entries from my blog show up on FriendFeed faster than I can switch tabs. Google reader support is sweet. - Mark Trapp

Rachel and Kevin are extremely thoughtful and generous people—we joined them in Hollywood tonight vis-à-vis tickets they offered to the Part I Finale taping of So You Think You Can Dance #SYTYCD (via http://friendfeed.com/micahwi...)

Show all
Look up spontaneity. This is how it reads: Rachel and Kevin along with their friends Paul and Karen flew down to LA this morning with no luggage for the finale show (Kevin scored place-holder tickets 2 months ago by signing up online). They were pretty sure they would secure extras, and Rachel knew we were in the area based on the LA FriendFeed meet-up thread http://friendfeed.com/friendf... , so I got a DM. When I showed the message to my wife, she jumped up and down and screamed—that kind you'd expect when hitting the lotto. Yes, we're fans of the show. So, they waited in line outside the Kodak theater half the day to trade in the place-holder tickets for the real thing, and longer still to get secure the extras for me and my wife, and we met them in queue. Wow. Just wow. Pics or it didn't happen attached. - Micah Wittman

PayPal was (is?) down. Wonder how much that costs them per minute ...
And here's the answer "PayPal says about $2,000 in payments per second flows through the system, meaning that a one-hour outage would cut out about $7.2 million in commerce." - http://news.cnet.com/8301-10... - Parker Barrile
That seems like a silly way of measuring the lossage for a site like PayPal where participants have accounts and there isn't a readily available alternative. If people are motivated to switch to a different site, it would cost PayPal a lot more; if not, people would presumably just postpone most transactions. - Jim Norris
I think a lot of purchases are impulsive and timely, though, Jim. If you are at some Yahoo Store that uses PayPal and it doesn't let you check out, you will probably just find another online store to use that does work. - Bret Taylor
I guess I was thinking that most usage came from sites like eBay where there wasn't really an alternative to PayPal. - Jim Norris

Grasslands is pretty cool looking, but when I comment on a post, the comment field is hidden in the grass. :D - Josh Haley
Nice job! These are some pretty spiffy themes. I would have commented earlier, but I was busy shooting ducks. I switched from Helvetica to Steampunk for now. I still want my old school monochrome monitor black screen and green text theme :P - Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
"old school monochrome monitor black screen and green text theme"? oh hellzyeah! can we also get an amber monochrome version?? they can be called "Hercules Green" and "Hercules Amber"! :D - Joe Silence is not dead
oooooo...I like that...Hercules Green and Hercules Amber - Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
Grasslands has sun and clouds in Opera, but not in Firefox. - Peter
Peter I see the sun and the clouds even in Firefox - Niki Costantini
Thank you, "Grasslands" theme is Great - Nimaa
It seems that one firefox is not like another firefox. It doesn't really bother me, I still prefer 'fresh', or perhaps 'orion'. - Peter
Love the new themes. But when can we upload our own image? - Katy Barrilleaux
Extraordinary and eye candy. - ashish
I like the Orion & Steampunk themes, but I keep going back to classic, largely due to its simplicity & lack of minor annoyances. - Tanath
Steampunk & Grasslands are sweet. but in Grassland bottom grass effect must be under of writings - Samir Kerimov
Ooo, nice. I'll try knot or grasslands for a while. Orion should be named "billions and billions." :-) - Rick Cogley

Just loaded the Orion theme. Nice! - Rachel Luxemburg
Took a screencam of grasslands with Kol's puppy. http://ff.im/5kCWk - Rick Cogley
Nice! But custom BG that can be uploaded by users would be awesome. Duck theme should be a widget that can be applied over any theme. - Krishnamoorthy
Krishnamoorthy.K - http://duckmylife.com gives you a bookmarklet that lets you add duckhunt to any website. - Rachel Lea Fox
Shiny. Trying Steampunk now :-D - immaterial
Cordys Cloud application had the cloud+grass combination since about a year, and now this theme of FriendFeed makes my page look like my applications ;) mighty nice ;) - Ashish Tiwari
Orion <3 :D - Nia
Steampunk is very flavorful. It needs some rotating gears (the true reason for 3D CSS transforms) - DGentry
Very nice. Wish I could toggle on/off the animation. - Joel Lovato
+1 for being able to turn off animation. Better yet: Animation only when viewing the tab, turn it off when the tab goes out of focus. - Pistos
I picked the "orion" theme thought it was fitting for me! - orionstarr
Yeah! Orion! - Thierry R. Andriamirado
I'd like,, I really would like to have a full black and green theme, like old vintage computer from the '80's, but with the power of new technology. SO, please, make me happy... - Francesco OC
annnnd back to helvetica.....steampunk is too slow on my netbook. really really want vintage computer "hercules green" or amber theme guys! :) - Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
