Jesse: I've never seen rooms so cheap. I saw $89 at Luxor and we're paying $200 for Trump Towers (brand new hotel).

Jesse: getting there is a bit of a challenge. United was trying to charge me $800 for a roundtrip. SOuthwest is $400 (from SFO). I'd drive. You probably will beat some people who have to wait in security lines, etc.

One tip? Order a limo instead of wait for a taxi. Taxi lines in Vegas can be more than an hour long.

Another tip if you're on a budget: Get the week-long bus pass and you can just take the bus up and down the strip for really cheap.

Jesse: someday I'll tell you a story when I was broke in Vegas, walking home from the Dvorak party (which was really big at Comdex, Bill Gates was there). I met some interesting people on the walk home (it's about four miles down the strip if I remember right).

I just talked with someone who knows CES very well and knows a lot of the Engadget/Gizmodo tech press. He says there's some things that are interesting, but overall he hasn't seen any really exciting announcements coming. I keep hoping that there'll be something more interesting than yet another copy of the Kindle or yet another Netbook. Anyone?

also, earlier Steve said that USteam had overtaken Qik on the iPhone. The thing is, is that Qik was the first to offer live video on the (jailbroken) iPhone. Apple have hamstrung Qik - very unfair. Though the quality of UStream is indeed excellent. Best thing about UStream is that you can record as well as broadcast live - from the desktop or mobile

Windows 7 surprised me. It's actually a worthwhile OS, from a usability point of view. I actually took some of Win7s features and configured my Ubuntu install to behave similarly.

I think that's got to be spin. The patent is basically on how you serialize a document on the screen to XML. Unless they've got a way to sidestep some of the claims, it'll be a big job.

OK, so to date, no one has expressed much interest in the source. I haven't put these projects up on a project-hosting site largely because my favorite one (Google Code Project Hosting) won't accept AGPL-licensed code. And I haven't found a second choice I like. Do you have any preference?

Meryn, do you have Flash blocked? The app uses a small flash file as a proxy to get around same origin policy for XMLHTTPRequest (necessary to set up the XMPP PubSub subscriptions).

Michael, yes I have Flashblock installed. Butt for Safari I have "ClickToFlash" (which does about the same) so I thought it couldn't be that. Seemingly the flash file you use gets through ClickToFlash's filter. You could consider showing a notification if flash isn't loading right.
