Aha! If you add &noredirect=1 to the end of the PicasaWeb album URL, you're not redirected to its Google+ Photos equivalent. Much better.
Just discovered that PicasaWeb album links are now redirected to Google+ Photos, which has less functionality. Boo.
Trying out ICS, it's interesting to see there is still a boatload of apps that is not optimized for landscape mode tablets like the Xoom.
