A skeptical look at turnkey biz ops. It may be possible to implement a set-and-forget cash cow, but the odds of it being sustainable are longer than even regular business.

Underneath Google vast array of products and services, the company is basically an ad firehose that wants information to be free to reduce delivery overhead.

Citing sociologist James A. Evans' studies, Carr discusses the narrowing range of new research transpiring as more scientific journals publish online. Evans: "as more journals and articles came online, the actual number of them cited in research decreased, and those that were cited tended to be of more recent vintage."

I'm a recovering social networking dummy, trying to educate myself about this site called Digg. It looks like I'm going to have to get over my aversion to lists, "guides" and cutesy titles if I want to get ahead in life.

I found this video after reviewing Julie's book on my blog, When Organizing Isn't Enough. If you'd like to get a quick sense of how the author's SHED methodology is different from the organizing practice she's best known for, this is a good starting point.

Great panel discussion on expediting the startup process, moderated by Tim Ferriss. Includes Cali Lewis of GeekBrief, Mike Cassidy of Benchmark Captial, and Evan Williams of Twitter.

If you listened to the SXSWi 2008 panel discussion I stumbled, this is a great supplement: the "Art of Speed" presentation slides that panelist Mike Cassidy used to pitch X-Fire

This is a question people have been asking for more than a decade, but it's increasingly relevant when most of the transaction we have with our so-called "real" friends are mediated through cell phones and other electronics platforms.

The difference for me is that my "work" friends are online so if I'm on my computer I am working :) My real friends want to stay anonymous

I've been on FriendFeed but I didn't actively use it---I just thought of it as an aggregator of Stumbles, Google Reader shares, posts, Twitters, etc.

Just found FriendFeed today thx to Darren Rowse mention

Just joined today through Darren's Twitter tweet.

I have had ff for about 3 months but did not use it until the rooms.

I just joined today from Darren's tweet.

I just joined up a couple of hours ago. Initially the FriendFeed format didn't appeal to me. However, the inclusion of rooms changed that. There was now a sense of purpose to FriendFeed rather then simply a collection of feeds.

I'm a first timer. There's been a lot of pimping of FF this week, with Twitter's recent outages. I'm still trying to see what the advantages are, but that will take time.

I joined friday, still learning the ropes

Had an account since October or November of last year, actually. Just didn't use it until this year.

I've used it for a while but it was basically just sharing my Tweets. In the past few weeks I've realised how useful commenting is, and this Rooms addition combined with Twhirl may mean I never have to join a forum to ask questions again! ;)

A refreshing break from all those self-important commentaries that advocate ignoring email to cope with it. Gary: "Every single person who has taken the time to email you is important."

Astute advice on the need to track even the small things in your financial life, and by extension the rest of your life. Not taking the time to fix small errors that might be systematic can compound their liability. Favorite quote: "The 'things that are worth your attention' are the things *that you're doing.*"
