ahhh.... the haters Andrew and Dave our out in full force today.... 1. we've set records two of the last three months, 2. all the sites i've ever started (engadget, autoblog, joystiq, etc) have this pattern of rise, plateau, rise, plateau. 3. August will be a record month again (three of past five months record).4. you guys are losers, I'm a winner: http://flickr.com/photos...

Not knowing much about traffic patters, it's notable to me that each of the peaks is higher than the last. If I was looking at this like it was an equity, I would think it was a great time to jump in.
- Andrew
just yesterday I was musing on why friendfeed had none of the snarkiness of my favorite CL forum (the parenting forum - full of cyberbullies). Today - snarkiness! How refreshing. Oh, and @Andrew, Mahalo got a hit from me today. To be honest, I had forgotten what their schtick was and went back to take a look.
- Laura Norvig
Well, this would be a great discussion if people would stop being childish and making snide remarks. It seems that the only reason this is "controversial" is because Baron brought it up. Would be great is Jason answered as if someone neutral asked the question. It's a good question, and jason has given some good answers...sometimes taking the high road is the way to go. Ugh.
- Andru Edwards
I wonder if this whole slap fight wasn't cooked up between the 2 of them to generate traffic for Mahalo (bad idea) and Rocketboom (bad execution).... Looking back it seems kind of staged.
- Jason Carreira
For the record, Ive been deleting comments from a troll named Vincent and Jascon Carreira who continue to attack me time and time again here. They are not contributing to the converstaion, just leaving comments that are irrational and meant to be hurtful.
- Andrew Baron
Interesting thought Jason...the old "worked shoot"
- Andru Edwards
BTW Jason Carreira, please do stop with the personal insults. I tried to direct message you to discuss further but you dont allow messaging and dont have any contact info.
- Andrew Baron
Personal insult? Please show me the personal insult? I'm not a hard person to find, a simple search would have found my email address from mailing lists: jcarreira@gmail.com...

@Mark, re: techcrunch article, if you look here at just 2008 instead of the whole history you get a better picture of 2008: http://www.google.com/trends... However, as you can see from the report, most of that traffic is coming from Hawaii which makes sence considering the word means hello AND goodbye. Thats why mahalo.com give a better understanding. Agree with Techcrunch re the interpretation of "actual #" but the graph above shows the "trend" which is flat & falling.
- Andrew Baron
@Andrew, if you look at the Website Trend for the US, Hawaii isn't even in the top ten traffic sources. Of course it shows up when you do a Search Trend -it is a Hawaiian word after all- but that is precisely why you must look at the Website Trend instead.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
Actually, that should've been directed to @Mark, now that I think about it.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
Andrew, I wanted to thank you for this bit, even though I'm sorry it had to happen to you personally. I previously was following Jason C because, as you say, he presented himself as somewhat of a mentor to web entrepreneurs who were less experienced than he. I have seen the back and forth between yourself and him today, and have since corrected the issue. And as an added bonus I got to block those two trolls without ever having to find out what they are the hard way.
- Aaron Krug
Incidentally, Andrew's original link used Google Trends for Websites, not the traditional Trends for search terms. Based on that data, neither Friendfeed nor Mahalo have come close to crossing the Cheezburger Threshold: http://trends.google.com/website...
