Apparently two indices (mcclellan summation index and the % stocks above 40 day PMA (price moving avgs)) that are very good predictors of market growth are showing just that, that we will see a bit of a recovery in the markets soon, but since the economy is still having issues this recovery won't last into the new year. Use this info as you see fit.

Wait for the election outcome. If Obama wins BUY! McCain = more pain...

No matter who wins, spend less, save more, and understand your ultimate fate does not rest upon the results of this or any Presidential election.

My prediction is we hit bottom when the Fed throws its hands up in the air and says it cannot do anything more, things will just have to run their course.

I've done 100,000 miles on United this year and they haven't lost my luggage. I'm sure that'll happen sooner or later, though. It's why I try to carry on my stuff and travel lightly.
- Robert Scoble
TSA. Your luggage is either on an earlier flight without you, or on a later flight without you. Either way, your tax dollars at work protecting the safety of the traveling public.
- Paul W. Swansen
TSA at LAX stole my MacBook Pro. I'm still fighting them.
- Mona Nomura
@monan you mean while you were going through the security check. Isn't that like 30 seconds?
- Phillip Jeffrey
No. My suitcase had the TSA inspected sticker on it (since I was traveling abroad and to two countries). Hong Kong (first destination)'s luggage check is robotic.
- Mona Nomura
We were fortunate in traveling for 6 weeks to and from India, never lost or had any luggage issues.
- Paul W. Swansen
Get a starter pistol and pack it in your luggage. You can keep your luggage locked and you have to claim that you are carrying it. Since your luggage contains a pistol, it will not get lost since it is tracked in greater detail. Use the Google for more info.
- Otto R. Radke
Last time I "lost" my luggage, it wasn't really lost, it was delayed for TSA inspection and missed the flight. Maybe same for you.
- Andrew Grumet
this is why i always, always carry my all of my shoes on. no lie. i'd die.
- Patricia
Mona, TSA is legally allowed to confiscate anything electronic thats entering the country and hold it as long as they want. The reason its legal is for the search of child porn, but in the case they find anything else like illegally copied music or movies, they will prosecute. Welcome to the New US of A.
- CW™
it happens alot! Always pack a day bag and carry it on!
- Brandy Lea
With all the Airlines charging for checked bags, why wouldn't you just use carry on.
- Paul W. Swansen
Always wear 'technical' clothing when flying - it can be washed and dried in the shower overnight.

Very cool! Suggest extending the interface with tools that help you find people to add, e.g. search people, search posts, restrict time range etc.

So Barney Frank's comments get picked up by the papers and other mainstream media, exclaiming how McCain showed up and said nothing, but he blew up the process by saying so much?
- Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
@Ed - guess you didn't read it as the quotes are from people like Lindsey Graham
- Dave Hodson
Yeah don't you love it how people say you're full of shit when they don't even bother to click on the link? He's just a machine who says "You're full of shit" and it doesn't matter what you say! I think somedays I'm living in a Kurt Vonnegut novel.
- Dave Winer
McCain and Graham made just that point at the Tex-Mex lunch, but McCain also spoke in the starkly personal terms of a presidential candidate in trouble: "You all put me on the hook for $700 billion," he told his colleagues, according to an aide familiar with the lunch. (I knew McCain was rich but ... he has this much money?!)

Ya, I've noticed Fiorina can pretty much say anything.
- David Lynch
I have no interest in hearing anything Carly Fiorina has to say. She is a big CEO FAIL! Thanks for all the brand new private jets and outsourcing and job cuts and mismanagement and acting like a rock star and taking the golden parachute. Do I sound bitter?
- Eric @ CS Techcast
Doubt this one will stick but let's give it a couple of days and see.
- Tsega Dinka
Funny, I thought of Carly today, during McCain's appearance. It was during the part about corporate greed.
- Phil Parlock
You mean incompetent fired CEO Carly Fiorina?

Celebrity Death Match: Tina Fey vs. Carly Fiorina....Hmmmm.......

Fey considered a Fiorina impression, then realized nobody knew what she looked or sounded like

To quote the oft quoted American philosopher, Paris Hilton, game on, bitches!
- Dave Martin
Anything for a headline. I'd say Carly has no sense of humor.
- Ryan
But Palin found it funny, according to Palin aide Tracey Schmit, "because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween." (Bottom bullet points here: http://tinyurl.com/4954qy)
- Mark Czerniec
Ryan, not only does Carly have no sense of humor, but she has no credibility either.
- Alex Scoble
"Now, I want to be clear and speak directly to those of you who LOVED that Palin interview. You're an idiot. I mean that. This is not one of those cases where we're going to agree to disagree. This isn't one of those situations where we debate it passionately and then walk away thinking that the other guy is wrong but argued well. I'm not going to think of you as a thoughtful but misguided person with different ideas who still really cares about the country and the world. No, sorry, not this time. This time, if you watched those interview excerpts and weren't scared out of your freakin' mind, then you're mentally ill, mentally disabled, or mentally disturbed"

This is a great quote from this article: "Vote for someone smarter than you. Vote for someone who inspires you. Vote for someone who has not only traveled the world but who has also shown a deep understanding and compassion for it. The stakes are real and they're terrifyingly high. This election matters. It matters. It really matters. Let me say that one more time. This. Really. Matters." - good stuff.
- darodave
I'm getting the feeling that all of this making-Palin-the-story is actually helping the McCain campaign.
- Andrew Grumet
it is. Most Americans don't view the world through smart people's eyes. It is the economy stupid wins. This stuff fails.
- Robert Scoble
@Robert: If it is the economy. Or more to the point, the pocketbook, then why shouldn't Obama win? His income tax plan puts more money into more people's pockets. Or is the point that Obama needs to hit that point again and again and again?
- AJ Kohn
It is the economy stupid versus It is the Palin stupid. I'm not at all sure who will prevail. Palin is something new. The media like new things.
- Benedikt Koehler
@AJ: Actually McCain means a more stable economy and in the long run means that people will maintain their lot in life. It is the fear of the unknown that drive voters away from Obama. His policies have the ability to move America is a better direction, but also will certainly shake things up a bit. This scares the shit out of the average Joe American.
- Bob Blunk
Based upon the first paragraph of this article, I think there is a third category: the "responsible, informed, curious, thoughtful, mature, educated, empathetic, remotely serious", and civil individual. HuffPost just lost credibility with me when you post an article that starts off as crude as this one and then doesn't offer anything but one-sided, hot headed opinion.
- Greg Lato
@Bob: By stable, you mean he's not going to do much to it, right? Then yes I agree and yes, plenty of folks are scared of change. But ... the economy is in real trouble. More than I think people really understand. Home values are still way out of whack versus historic trends (see Case-Shiller), personal debt is very high, savings at zero, the dollar is weak and inflation is growing. And the inflation and GDP numbers aren't really accurate: http://www.chrismartenson.com/fuzzy_n...
- AJ Kohn
I haven't watched this but am so thankful you have prepared me to know how idiotic I am if I do like this interview. I do agree with darodave in that this electinon really matters. I am just certain that I want neither candidate in the office of the commander and chief. One wants to offer change without describing how that will be accomplished with the help and resistance of the...

Well I can now say for certain I hate the undetermined character limits of friend feed as much as the 140 character limits imposed by twitter, identica, plurk, etc... Though I am uncertain of that last statement is even remotely correct: yes.. corporations have put forth the pretense of caring.. the gist I was getting at was that this election for me is choosing the lesser of two evils.
- Curtis "Billy" Cross

Quote: "For their part, Identi.ca and FriendFeed proponents have gone from anger to despair to revolutionary fervor to silence as users offer muted reassurance while at the same time wandering “aimlessly” back to Mother Twitter."
- Louis Gray
Twitter has a better name than Identi.ca, eg. "I just twittered something" vs "I just said something on Identi.ca"?
- Shawn Molnar
LOL @ Brandon. I'm with you - I thought TechCrunchIT covered IT related news. Apparently its real purpose is to assemble an anti-Twitter army and achieve global microblogging dominance.
- Shawn Farner
Good Post! The only reason I haven’t totally moved to Identi.ca is the network effect of twitter. I am getting far more value out of twitter+twhirl with my current follows than I would suspect at Identi.ca.

While Abby Martin is here, and I am here, and Robert Scoble is here, we are only three people, and perhaps it DOES matter that Twitter is cited on CNN. To grow, Twitter needs to make inroads with tens of millions of members of the general population. That means we'll see Twitter accounts on cola bottles and cereal boxes and trading cards. (I don't think there's a http://friendfeed.com/gossipg... yet.) Hopefully Twitter has improved its uptime to deal with this workload.

Robert, good to see you back on FriendFeed.
- Steve Gillmor
nah, Twitter sucks with the photos plus conversations are so chopped up. Give it a year. FF will prevail.
- Thomas Hawk
And good to see you on FriendFeed Steve!
- jcunwired
We're racing? I think there's plenty of room for several services. And to compare friendfeed and twitter to is like comparing apples to fail whales. Twitter is like a shoelace compared to friendfeed's professional basketball team. Some people don't like basketball and would be overwhelmed managing a team but most people can tie their shoes.

Twitter has that thing we used to get excited about in Web 1.0...first mover advantage. The follow-up attempts have to be more than just competent. For better or worse Twitter is to microblogging as Kleenex is to tissues and Walkman to mobile cassette players. cf Shawn Molnar's comment above.

twitter continues to capture the imagination of non-tech people... While I find FF great, I wonder whether it would ever break out into the non-tech crowd and get real acceptance. To me FF is a hybrid of both a discussion forum and social aggregator... its confusing to many. I tried to sell to a few of my non-tech friends and they say that they dont have that many accounts to manage to...
