"SSH provides secure access to a remote server. Both password and public key authentication are allowed. ConnectBot is an open source SSH client for Android. A key can be created in ConnectBot for use with the server. The key can be disabled at any time. This method can be performed entirely from your Android handset if you currently have password access to an SSH server. ConnectBot supports shell login and port forwarding, and file transfer is planned. Tested with ConnectBot 1.7.0, Android 2.2, and Ubuntu 10.10 Beta." - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet
Sets up SSH key authentication using ConnectBot exclusively. Other methods require an additional file transfer program, or USB connection. - Mike Chelen

Are you using the Bluetooth option? WiFi setup wasn't too bad, had to use Custom Address and enter the IP of my desktop though. - Mike Chelen

android2cloud - A way to push web pages from your android device to the cloud - https://code.google.com/p...
android2cloud - A way to push web pages from your android device to the cloud
"android2cloud was born from the 2010 Google I/O demo, in which Froyo was demonstrated. Froyo has a cool cloud-to-android push functionality, in which you can use an extension in chrome (or anything else really) and push the current webpage directly to your android phone, which will react intelligently. android2cloud was meant to fill the other half of that relationship. When using your android device, it is easy to come across long articles or things not suited for viewing on a phone. android2cloud hijacks the "Share" intent on android, allowing you to push those articles and webpages to your browser with the push of a button. The extension can be found here. The application is listed in the Android marketplace as "android2cloud". There is a donation app in the marketplace that is identical, and also a link on the side panel. Donations help me offer these apps for free, so thank you to everyone who has spared some change. Make sure to check out Such a GIT to keep up to date with all the developments." - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet

What does Instapaper do? Need a similar app for Firefox. - Mike Chelen
I guess the difference is 'Read Later' and read now. I like the live pushing to screen functionality. - Rodfather
Going to check out Instapaper and Read Later, is there any delay when pushing content? As nice as android2cloud looks it appears to be Chrome-only. - Mike Chelen
The devs said they're planning a Firefox extension soon. https://code.google.com/p... - Chris Granade
That would be great, happy to use Chrome on occasion, still Firefox gets the most daily usage. Getting links from Android to desktop is the most important, because sending links to the phone could always be done with QR code. - Mike Chelen

Transdroid, a remote torrent client for Android - AppBrain
"A remote torrent client manager for uTorrent, Transmission, rTorrent, Vuze, Deluge, KTorrent, Tf-b4rt, etc. You can manage torrents and files and add them via URL, barcode, RSS or integrated search. Home screen widget included. (GPLv3 license)" - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet
It's not actually a client, but a remote control for a variety of desktop download programs. It allows adding, removing, pausing, rearranging and more of the torrents on your desktop system. An Android torrent client would be nice though, since it would save a step when copying downloaded files to the device. - Mike Chelen

"FBReaderJ is an e-book reader for the Android platform. It is a clone of the FBReader book reader written in Java. FBReaderJ was partially written as a student project at Academy of Modern Software Engineering (the project was done by Olga Melanich, Marina Sokol, Eugene Vlasov and Grigory Yaroslavtsev). FBReaderJ supports several e-book formats: oeb, epub, fb2. In future releases the list will be extended to support the same formats as the original FBReader. Direct reading from zip, tar and gzip archives is supported. FBReaderJ is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL." - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet
I'm not sure yet. Aldiko is my current ebook reader of choice, have to explore FBReader more to see what differences might exist. - Mike Chelen
Sounds interesting but horrible name choice for what it does. I first think Facebook then even a RSS reader before I realize that it's for books. - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Haha, yes it is! Wonder what the FB actually stands for in this case? Their about page covers mainly the technical aspects. - Mike Chelen

Where can I find some good open source Android games to accelerate the learning process? - Stack Overflow - http://stackoverflow.com/questio...
"This question here lists some good links to general Android applications (that I'm already looking over) but I'm interested at the moment in specifically games (board-type, intelligent games rather than action - in other words, I don't need real-time). What are the best sources for applications like that? I want to look over the source code to get myself up to speed quickly. (Please don't just Google for results, I've already done that and the pickings are a little scarce. I'm interested in anyone who's actually taken time to find and evaluate good sites for this - so ideally, you'd already be an Android developer interested in developing games)." - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet

"Tips * See comment blocks throughout the source code for documentation. More to come. * See /min3dSamples for real-world usage (This may be the best way to start). Caveats * At this stage, API may change without notice. * Targeting compatibility for Android v1.5/OpenGL ES1.0 and higher. " - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet

"There's no public key encryption for Android yet, but that's an important feature for many of us. APG tries to fill that hole, with new features quickly being added. Hopefully APG will grow into a fully functional implementation of GPG or PGP calibre." - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet
Moving from Blackberry was surprised to see few built in encryption options. GPG is one way to address this on a desktop computer, and the more features brought to Android, the better security will become. - Mike Chelen

Shelves - Personal books management application for Android
"Shelves lets you manage your collection of books from your phone. With Shelves, you can add books by scanning their barcodes, using Web searches or entering information manually. Shelves help you find books in your collection with various search capabilities including by scanning a book's barcode. It looks even better in action!" - Mike Chelen from Bookmarklet
I tried using this, but found it to be mostly gloss when it didn't crash on me. I use Book Collection (Game Collection, Music Collection and Movie Collection, too). It's not as pretty, but it gets the job done. - Anika
Is Book Collection a particular app? Searches in the market only return _various author name_ Book Collection. Haven't been able to checkout Shelves because ATT won't allow installation of non-market apps. Actually wanted something that can manage eBooks though. - Mike Chelen
Ah, for ebooks, I use Aldiko (http://www.appbrain.com/app...). In the Market, the app I mentioned above is just called Book (http://www.appbrain.com/app...) for the free one and Book+ f(http://www.appbrain.com/app... the paid one. - Anika
Cool, found the Book app. Hope there is a way to tag books into collections, besides their basic genre categorization. Going to give Aldiko a try now too. - Mike Chelen
Ah, AFAIK, there isn't. I used another app, where you could tag them into collections, but you couldn't access them once you got them into the collection...unless you paid for the app. - Anika
Maybe one solution would be to export one collection to file, erase the list, then start a new collection for export to another file. - Mike Chelen
