"Google's just outed a very, very significant update to the Nexus One that includes Google Goggles on board and a re-upped version of Google Maps that includes suggestions and a dedicated night mode. Much more significantly, though, they've capitulated and enabled multitouch in Browser, Gallery, and Maps -- great news and a big win for the Android community at large."

The HTC SenseUI update for 1.5 that Rogers recently rolled out included multitouch for Gallery (or Albums) and the browser. Not Maps, though.

Looks like the main con of the Nexus One that the iphone user's like to point out will be no more

So whatever happened to those patents Jobs was trumpeting when he first debuted multitouch on the first iPhone?

Seems relations between Google and Apple are deteriorating. Guess this is Google's retaliation to Jobs big rant about Google (and Adobe) when he called Google's "Don't Be Evil" mantra "Bullshit".

Andrew, from what I know about this issue, those patents are much more restricted in scope than Apple would have one believe from their narrative.

But... the Nexus One is the same application of multitouch as the iPhone, no? (BTW, will the N1 have photo rotation via multitouch? or just pinch-zoom?)

It's good news for Nexus One owners .. but my feeling has always been that multi-touch is over-rated. I find double tap to zoom more comfortable on a phone-sized screen - much easier to do one handed. On a phone, multi-touch seems more for the 'wow factor' than practically usable. That said, on larger screen I think it would be great - looking forward to a decent multi-touch Android tablet :)
