It kind of was, it just moved to the Game Consoles where it made better sense to have a Sims-like experience.

Makes me wonder Second Life hasn't been ported to consoles as a download.

I've tried multiple times to like Second Life. I even bought a subscription and all, but after futzing around with it a few times, I haven't been back. I had forgotten about my subscription until I got a "your subscription is about to renew" email from Linden Labs a month or so ago. I canceled the subscription.
