It reminds me of the old joke published in /Mad/: “Q: What does the starship Enterprise and toilet paper have in common? A: They both circle around Uranus looking for Klingons.”

"Far from being only skin deep, beauty appears to be an indicators of genetic and developmental health, and therefore of mate quality; beauty is a “health certification.” More attractive people are healthier, have greater physical fitness, live longer, and have fewer lower back pain problems (although some scientists dispute these findings). Bilateral symmetry measures beauty so accurately that there is now a computer program that can calculate someone’s facial symmetry from a scanned photograph of a face (by measuring the sizes of and distances between various facial parts) and assign a single score for physical attractiveness, which correlates highly with scores assigned by human judges. A computer program can also digitally average human faces. Beauty therefore is an objective and quantifiable attribute of individuals, like height or weight, both of which were more or less “in the eye of the beholder” before the invention of the yardstick and the scale."

Great that you're using wireless mics. Now if we can just get you to up their levels, you'll be super top notch, RS!!

Just watched it, as expected, Tim provided great insight, one question though, was there any kind of democratic voting system used, what selection criteria used to selecting Tim from your great list.

Please provide a transcript for those running Ubuntu or other OSes where this particular codec works poorly.

Bruce: the one on the web page is Flash. Can you download the video and try it from there?
- Robert Scoble
I don't even see a video on the web page. I downloaded the mp4 and Ubuntu said it needed "bad" codecs for it. Then it played, but very slowly and without sound.
- Bruce Lewis
Bruce: bummer. I wonder what kind of codecs it needs. We're doing pretty standard stuff and created these with FinalCutPro.
- Robert Scoble
interesting interview, looking forward to part II
- Philipp Mertens
works for me on Ubuntu. Firefox sometimes doesnt display flash videos, i have to restart firefox to get it working.
- Varun Shenoy
About the mp4, the movie player says H.264 / AVC.

I truly look forward to the day Tim joins FF conversation!

@potamus: Try new 64bit flash10 player, if you have an x64. They fixed the 'gray-box' problem.

In the times of a struggling economy what better way to allocate your funds than putting them towards some bling for your POOP. :: face palm ::

That is awesome enough to buy, but I'm cheap enough to find a way to recycle the result. Then maybe I'd sell it on ebay. FA: ONE SLIGHTLY USED POOP GLITTER PILL (SEE PICTURES FOR THE RESULT)

“Keeping two ore more copies of the same document synchronized with each other in real-time is a complex challenge. This paper describes a technique which uses differential synchronization. This technique features fault-tolerence and freedom of movement for the users.”

Neil has done a lot of interesting work in text diff strategies and optimizations. I've incorporated a few of his techniques into the HTML diff markup for Knol.

"We've had one of these before, when the dot-com bubble burst. What I told our company was that we were just going to invest our way through the downturn, that we weren't going to lay off people, that we'd taken a tremendous amount of effort to get them into Apple in the first place -- the last thing we were going to do is lay them off. And we were going to keep funding. In fact we were going to up our R&D budget so that we would be ahead of our competitors when the downturn was over. And that's exactly what we did. And it worked. And that's exactly what we'll do this time."

I love/hate how Fortune takes a 100 word quote and stitches it together with 14 other short clips from March across 15 pages. Nice way to increase ad impressions.

My dad came up with something like this years ago, but never did anything with it. I seem to recall his design used a fluid in the speed bump, rather than a mechanical system. Good idea either way -- 'twould be great to actually be rewarded for going a reasonable speed.

Keith: can I make a suggestion? Auto create tasks with a filter. I currently send myself emails to bgolub+todo which get auto labeled and starred. Would love to be able to create a task in a similar process.
- Benjamin Golub
Thank, will try it. More suggestions: task completion date recognition in task subject; GooCal integration; See full note on mouseover. Still - Nice to see proprietary task integration in gmail. RTM is good but buggy, so have been wanting this.

Very simple.. I hope they does something more accesible

These stickers are sooo awesome. I beta tested 3 rounds of the keyboard stickers. We went through a lot of trouble to make sure they are high quality and will last for a long time. Arielle rocks!

Not quite Christmas-ruining, but this comnent comes close: "A sidebar without a background color? It's like Christianity without Jesus."

Thanks! Most of the work was done by Stephane and the rest of the Street View frontend team. And Tobi helped a lot with infowindow problems at the end.

I love the new UI for street view. Awesome!

(i wish i could subscribe to just comments on my stuff so i'd seen this discussion before now, but) the funny part is i put this into my personal gmail instead of work gmail by accident. guess it's all the same in the end :)

The amazing part is that the chicken *and* the duck *and* the turkey are wrapped in separate layers of bacon. Also amazing is that an entire site is dedicated to "Daily Updates on the World of Sweet, Sweet Bacon"

I have to say that is some seriously unattractive food, regardless of how good it might taste. I'd love to see a professional chef try to dress that thing up...

Reminds me of an old sci-fi short I once read about a guy who didn't see, and who was sitting in an empty hall for all eternity... and who then went about to basically recreate a working universe in his head. Won't spoil the ending to that one :) Anyone knows the title/ author of it, though? [cross-posted to reddit]
