how do you do that? - Franklin Naval
Interesting. I wish I saw more Friend of a Friend. Of course, whenever I see one of those, I subscribe. - Robert Scoble
Franklin, click "hide" on any Friend of a Friend entry, then click "See options for hiding other items like this," then choose either "Hide all stuff from friends-of-friends" or "Hide all stuff from Friendname's friends-of-friends" - Mark Trapp
Franklin: click "Hide" and then click the options. You'll see that turning off Friend of a Friend is one of the options. - Robert Scoble
Back to the thing that caused this post. What about the Friend of a Friend posts pissed you off? I'm always trying to figure out what kind of behaviors here make people mad. - Robert Scoble
Mark: Thanks. I'm still getting used to the interface. - Franklin Naval
I are confused. I can't find said "Hide" - Outsanity
"Hide" is right next to the "Comment" button. - Jeff P. Henderson
Outsanity: are you using the regular Web client? - Robert Scoble
nevermind... i found it - Outsanity
I like what you said and tend to do the same, but then, I only got the message through the friend of friend feature... nice contradiction - Julio Alonso
@Scoble: Originally I loved the Friend of a Friend because it was a brilliant discovery mechanism. As FF has grown, I have more (direct) friends so I was slowly overcome by an insidious growing stream that included micro-posts of the sort I despise ('I have a runny nose. Goodnight'). I could have filtered individuals or specific services but blocking all FOAF has been like a breath of fresh air. I will still discover interesting people (who are commenting) but I normally only add 1 friend a day. - Andy C
I had Friend of a Friend turned off but I see it as an way to find new people now. - Ross Armer
As a newcomer to FF, I like the FOAF feature. But I must say that it generally results in similar content -- because these friends tend to have similar interests. I peruse the "Everyone" tab now and again to see what I am missing in other circles. (My conclusion is there are few other circles yet on FF.) - David Muir
I find FOAF is like the Explore button on Flickr - Tom Quinn
I've turned it off myself. You'll find me or I'll find you. I don't need the recommendation in this manner. It's crowding my stream and I can't get to people that I actually want to read. - Corvida
Found this post via the FOAF feature. Gonna subscribe to Andy C now. That's the benefit you lose when you turn off FOAF - finding people you didn't know about. - Hutch Carpenter
So I borrowed my house mates pc.....This is such a thought provoking post. I had decided to start adding at least one name person per week as they jumped out at me. Just added someone in fact. Corvida has a great idea that in a fashion we we bounce into what we are meant to see. In opposition would seem to be wading thru a sea of noise but finding pearls in the making. Darnit if I don't like both. I will still keep the flow unfettered. :) - Mathew A. Koeneker
Now, I have added two people. :) - Mathew A. Koeneker
it seems silly this desire to control the "noise" by closing off the system so that only what is already inside stays inside, for by taking this defensive stance there is a very low probability of any new information entering the system and thereby allowing one to be educated, entertained and enlightened. - Nathan Eckenrode
So surprised to see this as the best post of the day. For me, the whole value of FriendFeed is in the friend of a friend. I subscribe to certain popular people just to get the benefits of who they follow! - JMaultasch

Yeah I realised afterwards that I should have linked to the comment - it was David Recordon's first comment in this FF thread - http://is.gd/M4r - Andy C

"Great post. As always, you are seeing the bigger picture and the great potential, not just focussing on the implementation details. Some of the so-called 'analysis' of this story (dismissing identi.ca as a Twitter clone, missing key functionality, no channels, no replies) genuinely surprised me. It's also interesting that there's plenty of people (on identi.ca) shouting ideas for improvement and demanding new features from the sidelines while Evan continues to work 27 hour days to improve the service. Maybe that will change. We'll see." - Andy C

Christ - that's better - I simply didn't realise how much crap had accumulated in my FriendFeed. This is back to how it was 3 months ago (and should be IMHO) - Andy C
It's like becoming friends with other parents at your kids school. You have no interests in common (apart from Janet and John attend the same school) so there's no need to have each other round for dinner parties and pretend. - Andy C

Andy, nice weather in the UK at the moment, is it ? - Michael C. Harris
Hi Michael - Glorious yesterday. Mixed (cloudy with showers) today and cooler but the forecast for Sunday (Mens Final @ Wimbledon) is poor so expect rain interruptions. Talk soon, Andy. - Andy C
It's quite cool in Melbourne today. Off to the gym soon to keep warm, then maybe some gardening. You're probably off to bed soon, so talk to you tomorrow. Sleep well. - Michael C. Harris
Good night, Michael. Regards to the family. - Andy C

Hmmm... page cannot be found. I think then it does mean identi.ca==Twitter. - Cyndy
Sort of. My configuration settings weren't heeded and I had to use fancy URL's before it finally worked. [This is probably my ineptitude] I am on bluehost but basically you need Pear, mySQL and php. - Andy C
@Cyndy: Works for me. Maybe I was messing about. Try again. - Andy C

Agreed. That's part of the FF draw for me, thus far. Reasonable, fairly intelligent discussions with people who aren't just wanking each other off by agreeing with every opinion. - Spinn
Err - you used the word 'wanking'. Sorry but that offends my Christian sensitivities. Unsubscribed :-) - Andy C

... and then I think, has Andy shared anything of mine in the last 30 days ? Am I on the hit list ? - Michael C. Harris
Someone else mentioned a similar blog cull (need to dig out the link) but I increasingly find myself scanning >250 feeds in GR and not reading or enjoying the majority. This was reinforced by another FF thread that mentioned scanning forward specifically for blog posts. Probably merits a blog post when complete. - Andy C
The BBC obstinately use partial but they may be one exception. I simply can not revert to perusing the BBC Web site. That is just so 1990's. - Andy C
@michael I use a river of news but your blog is one I actively look out for so rest assured. I also think I need to follow more Habari folk and 'personal' blogs too. - Andy C
You do wonder why the BBC won't make full feeds, its not like they are going to miss out on on-page advertising. I did a blog cull of Wordpress/Windows feeds- got GoogleReader down to a good 60% of original beastly size. - Adam Wilcox
