Unless you're roasting at home, it's definitely not worth it. Anything you buy at a store has likely off-gassed enough to prevent damage from compressed gas. But you roast don't you? I used to remove the valves from commercial bags and insert them into a cutout on a mason jar, LifeHacker style. I think you could lose the Folger's taint, but can you lose the shame of going through the grocery store checkout with that? ;)

Bouncing between ff & twitter, hard to keep up with you! Yeah, another classic. My parents grew up in the neighborhood so those places are old family friends, along with along with Yonah Schimmel, Sammy's and the dearly departed Ratner's where Mom was a waitress as a teen in the early '40s.

I'm still trying to get the hang of FF. I like being able to have conversations without sending a million tweets, but it's still a little new to me.

Re: Katz, Sammy's, etc. My mom was born in Stuyvesant Town and my grandfather lived in Peter Cooper for the last 40 years. When I was little we used to walk down to Houston for lox etc. Of course, when Ess-A-Bagel opened 33 (?) years ago my grandfather became their biggest fan. Hand sliced lox and the best bagels in town. I got a bagel from Russ & Daughters a couple days ago, but they don't bake their own and it wasn't that good. The spread was great, however!
