"MySpace has just beaten Facebook to the punch, and rolled out two-way Twitter sync. According to the company, users can now “sync their status so that any update created on MySpace will appear in your Twitter feed and any Twitter feed update will appear within your MySpace status & mood.”"

Excellent! I actually like MySpace better than Facebook. I have my entire MySpace page filled up with FriendFeed widgets! lol

Welcome Baby Ryan!!! My baby Ryan (17 years!) and I are honored to welcome another superstar to our planet! Love, hugs, and lots of kisses to Baby Ryan, Mommy Maryam, Dad Robert and big brothers Milan & Patrick and of course Grandma!!! My guess on Ryan's arrival (predication) was only 23 hours off. I thought he would arrive on Friday, Sept. 18th at 11:45 pm. Love to all, Kelly & Ryan Kim
- Kelly S. Kim
What a moment, eh? I remember when my daughter came into this world, it was so exciting there were no words for it. Congrats on your wonderful baby boy!
- Michael J. Carrasquillo
Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Ryan. :-)
- Yvette Ferry
Congratulations Robert and Maryam! And welcome Ryan. If I was having a baby today, I'd begin a blog for him/her straight away as an online diary they could look back on when grown up.

I was a c-section six week preemie in an era when that was seriously life-threatening, they didn't know if I would make for the first week. It always gets me a see a c-section / preemie come howling into the world. Welcome, little guy!

Right ON! I am so happy for you. I have 4 kids of my own and they are my greatest joys. Take care and I hope all goes so smooth for him and mom.

Congrats! I wish a long and healthy life.

If there's really an AT&T cell tower in Building 43, why doesn't my iPhone work in Building 42?
- Scott Cederberg
AT&T will own the cell towers and pay rental to whoever owns the building. Other carriers will probably have towers up there too. It's a lucrative additional revenue stream for the church in the UK for example. Churches are typically the tallest structures in many towns. The vicar doesn't have his own cell tower.

Hi everyone, Sorry for the delay in responding to these latest issues. I’ve been busy on the day job mostly. However it’s now Saturday night, my wife is out with her friends, the kids are all asleep, I have beef vindaloo and a glass of cab sav, so let’s see what can be accomplished.
The first priority is to make sure things are working on WP 2.8.x, as from the comments below it looks like there are some problems. Then there's a pending test version to release.

Friendfeed's new Twitter features are working remarkably well. Several people at the TechCrunch showing of Star Trek tonight noted that they are getting a "ton" of email requests for follows. I smile and say I knew it would be big long ago.
They totally miss the point when all they do is subscribe to a large number of Twitterers (Tweets are usually low nutritional value). Some of them will figure this out eventually, but many others won't.
- Robert Scoble
As Simon Cowell says, Tweets are like eating ice.
- Chris Gardner
Friendfeed filters out the Follow Friday mess of Twitter, and the stupid quizes (fluff) of Facebook. There also doesn't seem to be any hashtag spamming to get a topic on the trending list. what's left is actual social networking..... i think.
- Mike Nencetti
What are the new 'Twitter features'?
- Taehoon Kim
Long ago? Scoble, if you didn't join until 2008, you're a n00b. :)
- Louis Gray
I made the mistake with Twitter by starting to follow large number of people and that made it almost impossible to actually keep up with what's happening around there. More and more, it started to look like unrealistic goal and apparently it was. Still, as way of "water cooler", it's nice way to hear new things but too difficult for longer conversations. As you can think of, FriendFeed is more of what I like as it's getting more and more features and (most importantly) people.
- Daniel Schildt
Still, there is long way to go for both.
- Daniel Schildt
Some people in my surroundings didn't like the new features. They got too much subscription notifications. They felt it was "spam" to them. Apparently people don't care who they follow or who follows them on Twitter, but they do on FriendFeed. This is an interesting observation.
- Michiel Sikkes
I love the Facebook features that they stole from FriendFeed (in a better world, FF would get compensated for borrowing UI features), but I totally love the search/speed combo of our great FF team's product. The new FriendFeed UI does look cleaner (for non-geeks). Love the FF/Twitter import feature, but I think Facebook's "Circle of Friends" and FriendFeed's "Manage Friends & Friend Lists" need some major drag-drop/visual-in boost. Some next-generation friend management system...
- Mitchell Tsai
i'm feeling that the value in friendfeed is to NOT import all of your twitter friends/followers. right now, i'm using twitter as my public broadcast stream and keeping friendfeed a private feed with managed subscriptions. i dont care who follows me on twitter (i selectively follow back after reviewing a few days of the the user's stream). i do care on ff. this seems like logical usage...
- sull
Sull: if you import members put them on a separate list.
- Robert Scoble
Scoble that is absolutely correct. If you import Twitter folks separate them. When it comes to Friendfeed use groups and with Twitter do the same. You can injest much more conversation this way.
- Keith - @tsudo
I've broken my Twitter "folks" down into several lists - those that I have a "relationship" with on Twitter, Twitter friends that are active on FF, and then just peeps.
- Sharon McPherson
alright, it took me a while (again) to find the importer feature - http://friendfeed.com/friends... but i'm trying it out in a new friend list. thanks for the suggestion.
- sull
I've been using the Twitter friend finder since it launched and now find that I need to use if frequently to keep up with the new FriendFeed users. I plugged in a official company Twitter account about 2 weeks ago which has over 2000 followers and found only a dozen or so FF users. Just did it again, and there were a couple hundred, nice jump.
- Rick Bucich
Rick: I last ran it a few days ago. Just ran it again and another 175 were there. Cool.
- Robert Scoble
Rick/Robert - sounds like a new feature that ff could use. auto-check/auto-import etc.
- sull
heh - it was at Star Trek I also heard the same thing from people. I'm trying to convert @josephscott from Automattic to FriendFeed so they can start including similar features into Wordpress and Buddypress. He said the same thing (and it was at Star Trek).
- Jesse Stay
New ff feature still exlude "Resharing to Other Rooms"-button, "immediate" postcomment button while posting [and not after it] plus also still missing refresh buttons for more than just 5 socNetworks. It's now *impossible* to add YT, identi.ca , plurk, Custom RSS/AtomBlogs and even additional twitter-refresh buttons. I had 40-50 buttons in case of some SocNet-ff forward- Glitches, now i have to wait for auto-forwards of YT, twitter and co.. su*** ; -(

I suspect that this isn't as generally applicable as people think it is. However it satisfies all the requirements for a meme that will propagate irrespective of it's veracity: it's simple, it's easy to pass on, it's wrapped up in emotive stories and it matches our intuitive understanding.
- Adewale Oshineye
i'd read that too, and it made me wonder about how upstarts like apple [vs ibm] and usa [vs the crown] can result in the davids themselves becoming goliaths and how that changes them. jobs seems to get it and kept innovating. bush turned totally imperialistic.

The power of a thank you: a United Airlines employee personally thanked me and another guy I was sitting next to for being loyal customers. We both looked at each other in amazement. Gives me some ideas for my own career. I don't say thank you enough.
Robert, thank you for that free consulting the other day. I've already implemented some of it.
- Bruce Lewis
from fftogo
Sincere thanks shows empathy and respect. Even thanks by protocol (less sincere) _can_ be good, and potentially leads to the real thing - even better. Great thought to share, Robert.
- Micah
Did the United Airlines employee thank you for your friendfeeds?
- Charbax
Starting at home, too. Maryam does a lot for me and I don't say thank you enough to her.
- Robert Scoble
It's too easy to take things for granted.
- Michael McKean
Robert, thank you for improving yourself by thanking others more often. ;)
- Chris Charabaruk
Saying "please" and "thank you" is always welcome, thanks, Robert. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
A great reminder. Another thing I'm learning is to be more gracious when others say 'thank you' and to say 'you're welcome.' Often, I say 'no problem,' which is kind of self-diminishing and also doesn't convey that they are worth doing a favor for. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I'm trying to train myself.
- joey
One airline used to say "Welcome Mr. xyz as soon as you were on your first class seat and asked what you wanted for a drink ... they have the list of passengers with the frequent flier level. Basic customer service.
- Julio F ~ @SocialJulio
I worked for some folks as a horseback trail guide when I was a kid. Everyday, no matter what, they thanks me for coming in and doing my job. Taught me the power of a thank you from a group that normally takes you for granted (your employer) - the same holds true for thanking customers.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Julio: I have flown 300,000+ miles and hearing thank you is a rare enough occurence that it is notable when it happens.
- Robert Scoble
Wouldn't it be great if @ev said thanks to some of the early adopters who tirelessly promoted Twitter? It struck me when he tweeted from the Time awards dinner thanking his employees. He doesn't get how hard we work, for free, to make him successful.
- Dave Winer
@Dave - do you want some stock or something? If you feel like you need to be recognized and aren't, use another service
- Dave Hodson
"Thank you" is something you don't notice unless it's missing. My previous job I got very few "thank yous" from the management, it was a little upsetting. I still did the work of course but it would have been very nice if people simply replied to mails, for example, with a thank you. It seemed there that that was wasting an email. No it's not! :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
What does being a "loyal customer" mean? I have loyalty to ideals, to my country, to my family ... not so much to companies. There are exceptions, but I don't think any airline would apply ...
- John Koetsier
John: I did 120,000 miles with United last year. That is loyalty.
- Robert Scoble
I had a patient carry business type cards with a lovely verse about how little the world recognizes good service, kind nature and such. I truly was taken for a pause when she gave me one.
- Janet:#TeamMonique
Just give thanks that you actually have a career as many do not right now in this country.
- Steve
One of my friends trains dentists and their staffs how to boom their new patient numbers through word-of-mouth referrals without ever saying the "r-word". It's basically done through very well-worded thank you messages. Extremely powerful and the staff absolutely love doing it.
- Hans Eisenman
I agree and the power simple gestures have always amazes me.
- Craig Mische
Funny. My boss's birthday was today. We have to give words of wisdom on our birthday's at work. He told us a story about the importance of thanking and acknowledging.
- amarquart
Steve: I'm always thankful for that. Not to mention that about half the world's people live on $2 a day. I thank my dad for being the first to go to college in our family, get a PHD, and moving me to Silicon Valley. Of course if we had stayed in Jersey maybe I would be working with Gary Vaynerchuk now. That would be fun too!
- Robert Scoble
Awesome! Amazing how something so small can be so big
- Andy A.
Amazing how a simple "Thank You" goes a very long way..
- Ricardo Bueno
Look at all of the positive press UA is getting from this and it didn't cost them a cent! Just good policy and good employees.
- Jeff P. Henderson
When said honestly and properly, thank you can be very powerful. We all should use it more.
- arik
I like to ask speak to the manager of anyone who has been very helpful to me so that I can request that it be noted how great he or she was.
- metalerik
I had a very positive experience the other day after being delayed for five hours and being stranded overnight in Denver (United put me up for the night). About 20 minutes after landing at SFO, I got an apology email with a $250 credit for future travel. http://bit.ly/AMEH4
- Rocky
I still think Twitter should use twttr.com for their URL shortening needs.
- Chris Messina
They should be using meta redirect and Amazon AWS to host each shortened URL like Adjix uses - I'm really impressed with that method, for reasons such as above
- Jesse Stay
There needs to be an easy way to use hyperlinks in tweets. But it would have to be dead easy for people to use.
- Grey Drane
Haha, Chris [first comment]. Paul, if the ff.im link was given to us from the share box or bookmarklet and gave us nice stats and features like bit.ly then I'd use it instead of bit.ly. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Perhaps the old imaginary friends just need to be converted, but not sure of the best way to name them, unless we are given a convert feature and the ability to rename the imaginary friends user's name upon converting.
- Kol Tregaskes
@Chris "tw.tr" should have been natural, except the Turks <http://www.nic.tr/> insist on three part names, and they couldn't have tw.it.tr anyway. That t.wit.ly enough for you?
- ianf ⌘
URL shorteners are necessary only for Shortened services, which hopefully become obsolete over time. They ARE annoying, particularly without preview of at least the destination URL. Anyone who hasn't read Joshua Schachter's piece (http://joshua.schachter.org/2009...) should.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Hence http://shane.curcuru.name/blog... Paid accounts would get a set of predefined metadata slots for each tweet (tags, URLs, etc.); that way, twitter can capture and hold all the full URLs without taking up space in the 140 chars. This also puts twitter solidly in the middle of all the traffic. SMS users wouldn't see them, but the majority of other clients would simply stick the metadata bits in someplace useful.
- Shane Curcuru
Try using HootSuite. it has the best (and funniest) URL shorterner service.
- Anita Cohen-Williams
I have to agree with Jesse. After reading up on this (Thanks Dave Winer for the heads up!) I have to say, the method that Adjix employs is the way to go. (To be fair to Paul & co. - I've never seen an ff.im link fail either!)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
LE: URL shorteners are not always necessary, but sometimes desirable. 1) For simple clarity while reading a post and 2) for providing the poster with click tracking. I like to know how many people are using my links. It's one more way of measuring how my message is being received.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Yes... exactly. I am just running into this with one of my tr.im'd URLs. Any idea if the problem is being worked on? I had such high hopes for them as a service.
- Aaron Kurtz
This problem is all over the blogosphere this morning. I'm sure they're working on it, but it doesn't change the fundamental problem with the methos.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I'm getting in now, looks like it's fixed, or perhaps just intermitant?
- Aaron Kurtz
from IM
And Paul: ummm...What Kol said! (and zsafwan) I would probably use the ff.im for most shortenings anywhere if I a) could and b) could get click stats.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Yup. I saw that last night. I'm testing a new tool. (And in this case, tr.im failed)
- Louis Gray
I use http://www.twitclicks.com to track how many people are clicking my links, where the clicks came from geographically, which browser people used, and the usernames of the Twitterers who clicked on them.
- Sharon McPherson
I've gleaned much from Mr. Green Thumbs... and fingers and wrists. Seriously, I always take time and poll his posts. I'm sure you cats are having a blast. Thanks much for the dedication and effort from all three of you. (I want nothing, Its a compliment so take it. Besides, you can't prove I said anything drippy. Everyone knows that anything posted online magically evaporates in 32 hours. Kinda like pics of people.. ohhhh, taking a shower).
- Ted Bradford II
Not a clone, but they've been moving the chess pieces around for awhile now, adding bits to each service to tie it all together and grow it socially. The most popular search engine, and a free (email) account are the foundations.
- Tinfoil 2.0
they need it imho to clearify their social graph informations they have due to the google accounts (and mail)
- Andreas Klinger
and as the future social network is called internet they dont need to clone fb - just to have the correct socialgraph info (all imho)
- Andreas Klinger
it's about time they get a decent, real, uberFriendFeed social, ... other than the old http://Orkut.com, popular namely in Brasil .. they have audience, visitors, and that is what really counts ...
- pb:
My only concern is that my profile name would be the same as my email address. But I do agree, this could possibly make Google the 1 ton gorilla in the room, as if it wasn't content with being the 800lb gorilla in the room.
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
yeo Facebook clone, it is what yahoo wanted to do in turning their email into a social network but never did, Google thing is gona be much more it is gona be location aware using google latitude, plus friend connect.
- Ali
@derek they will, but proceeding in a very misterious way... i wrote about it yesterday, in last months seems like: 1) All Social Network have his final plan and a lot of pieces come together piece by piece OR 2) They run, copy and try to take best of competitor without a global vision of the future .....
- CantorJF
@Mike Yeah that bothered me too, having my Gmail address as the profile name.
- Sally Church
Lol, i just tweeted you about a post i did about this. "Google are building a social network under our very noses. It could be bigger and better than Facebook." http://is.gd/syn9
- Zee.
It's opt-in, so nobody is forced to do anything, and GOOG won't do anything if you do not condone it. How many profiles does one need?
- coldbrew
Google is an extremely cold blooded competitor. They would build the most powerful strategic nuclear weapon and you wouldn't even know till it hits you with one.
- Arvind
C'mon Robert, I told you what we're working on - open standards for making the web social. These are the same profiles used in Friend Connect, they just now have nicer URLs than before. Read http://bit.ly/OSqa for an overview
- Kevin Marks
Chris Messina had a great article up about it all, comparing the two. Check out http://factoryjoe.com for his comparison
- Jesse Stay
Kevin: I know that. I just wanted to have a conversation about this. The fact that you added onto it is EXACTLY why I started it. So people could hear directly from Google about it and now your answer will always be in the search engine here too. :-)
- Robert Scoble
"what is Google going to do with my profile info?" - They turned mine into a newt, but it got better.
- John Craft
I guess its quite a move for their mission to organize the worlds information. Ie people search or recommending stuff based on your profile. They could do that without a google profile of course.
- Michiel Sikkes
So, Scoble, you are orchestrating 'conversations'? Sounds kind of manipulative, but at least your upfront about it. [EDIT: Do you always have ulterior motives?]
- coldbrew
havn't read the whole thread, but Google isn't after Facebook, Google will spend money to buy FF cause FF is more open, and more compliant with Greader and Gprofile (notice that Google profile gather service like FF), you can add your service in your google profile, the second step will be to agregate those service, in Greader sharing and comment on feed is there , so there is 80% that google will make a bid on FF before the end of the year. (but will FF sell to google?) I may say No.
- abdellah
Conversation baiting lol :) I agree that's a pretty fine line to walk. I think abdellah's point is an interesting one. not sure if it makes sense in the timeline that you gave, but perhaps eventually. have the friendfeed founders ever addressed the potential for being acquired?
- Frankie Warren
coldbrew: my goal for life is to have an interesting conversation every day. By doing it here it brings out all the data about a topic that one needs to search for it later on, too. I see my role as sort of a talk show host. abdellah: I believe friendfeed and facebook are on a collision course. Why? Because the money is in search. Friendfeed has a much better search engine, facebook has the users. Which service will have the users AND the search engine first? Facebook. But if Google bought friendfeed ...
- Robert Scoble
THAT would be very interesting indeed! Because Google has the users, too.
- Robert Scoble
I would prefer that google bought Friendfeed instead of Twitter. :)
- Frode Stenstrøm
Robert: Right, but as a "talk show host" i don't think your goal should be to sensationalize to spark conversation... granted you wouldnt have had a response from someone within google setting the record straight, but i dont think you want to sacrifice credibility in the process, right? just my opinion.
- Frankie Warren
Frankie: it's not sensational at all. It's a legitimate question which deserves conversation. How is Google going to get into Facebook/friendfeed is a REAL question for our industry.
- Robert Scoble
Frode: me too. Plus Google would get four of its superstars back that way. Twitter's technology isn't good enough, either. It'd need to be rewritten from scratch for Google. Friendfeed's is a much better code base. Of course since it was written by ex-Google superstars it'll fit right into Google's infrastructure.
- Robert Scoble
Of course. Since Yahoo already tried the same thing....
- Mike Shields
Robert: i agree, but i dont think you believed they were building "a facebok clone" as kevin marks previously told you what they were attempting to accomplish? maybe im overreacting or just don't know the way things work quite yet :)
- Frankie Warren
imagine this: Google + Friendfeed vs Twitter + facebook + Microsoft :) that would be a battle.
- Frankie Warren
major bummer for me is that i use a google domain. the public gmail account has the shorturl i want to use on my g-domain profile and i can't use it. essentially, the gmail account is "squatting" on my shorturl and there's no way to stop that. makes the google profile kinda worthless for me.
- MikeAmundsen
Their email client is already LIKE a twitter anyway...
- tojfs7931
I really like this idea: I already use GMail, GReader, Picasa, etc. so it makes sense to have all of those services baked into my online presence. Facebook still has the bells in whistles (gah! - I don't care which 5 items you wouldn't leave the house without) but so didn't MySpace back a few years ago -- remember myspace??
- Brian Graves
nicholas - what we need is something like FriendFeed + SocialThing +Ping.FM and you'd have your google reader for social networks.
- Bill Rawlinson
Googles purchase of Friendfeed would save the service I think. Twitter is now beeing mentioned in newspapers and TV everyday here, and is getting the kind of publicity that facebook got at the beginning. No one I speak to have heard about Friendfeed, but everyone that I show it to loves it. I think Twitter can stand on its own, but Friendfeed needs a larger userbase. I fear what Facebook would do to Friendfeed if they got hold of the company,.
- Frode Stenstrøm
