Does anyone do intermittent fasting? I tried fasting one day and was so cranky that I didn't make it. I like the idea of the small eating window on fast days. http://www.fitnessspotlight.com/2009...
+1 -- fasting may drop some fat, but you're also going to lose muscle too. not a good thing.

I do it a lot. It was hard at first but now it's easy. Try easing into it. One week, choose a day and just eat a light dinner. The next week, just drink vegetable juice for a whole day. On the third week, try fasting an entire day. The fourth week, it'll be a "piece of cake." ;)

Not true, Rob. You can still build muscle mass with intermittent fasting.

Fasting loses mainly water and fluid weight. You don't build muscle or lose fat while fasting. (unless you are on a fast for a long time and then you are staving yourself ) Yes, Graham it is possible to continue to 'build' muscle while messing with your nutrition, but it usually doesn't last long. I have seen over 1,000 patients who have tried variations of fasting, starving etc. And...

Fasting is not good if you have certain medical conditions. Fasting may also reset your metabolism making you gain weight even if you reduce your caloric intake. Your body is a furnace and needs to be fed energy to work efficiently.

Janet++, fasting could make your body think you're starving, causing it to slow your metabolism and hold onto everything you put in it.

I'm Jewish so, yes, we do fasting occasionally.

Akiva, the Catholic fast is one main meal and two smaller with no food in between these meals. No meat on specific fast days. The main meal must be modest in size and not a gorge fest.

It is not healthy for me to fast because I eat maybe 1 meal a day anyway

I have done 24 hours once. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Not sure if I will do it again. It felt OK, but not sure if I will do it again. Pretty much did it just to see if I could and I did.

I fast every night from bedtime until I wake up :D about 6-8 hours

I had to do a 72 hour medical fast where my glucose was checked every two hours. All I could have was diet soda/black coffee or water. By the 60th hour I was feeling a bit weak and sadly I did not lose one stinking pound as reward for this test.

Janet, that 'fast' sounds like me on a daily basis.

I've been fasting all week - and will until next Wednesday when my cheque comes again - the cupboard is getting emptier and emptier

My sister used to do it once a week. I tried but I love food too much

I like what Earl said! Last year I had a couple of clients who participated in Ramadan. What a test that is. Needless to say, I didn't train them that month.
