@Jeremy: http://www.shirky.com/writing... -> Most web-related things follow power law. So you'd expect a few words to be used a lot and a lot of words to be used a smaller number of times. That is pretty much true for almost all writing.
- Yuvi
I wonder if it's Twitter because of the way he pulled the text from Twitter... I know if you just grab your FF feed directly there's a lot of extra words that aren't really part of your content related to FF's plumbing.
- Her Lindsay-ness
@Lindsay Nope, this is just pure content. Just the tweets, with all @s and links removed.
- Yuvi
Seems out of whack to me. I don't think I talk about Twitter as much as what you see here but I defer to Yuvi. Also, Yuvi, is the Friendfeed mention a function of the fact that I post to Twitter from FF?
- Steve Rubel
I guessl I'm saying that if twitter is used largely to talk about twitter and friendfeed to talk about friendfeed rather than to share and discuss big ideas and stories, then perhaps their 'importance' is exaggerated.
- jeremy ettinghausen
@Steve: There were 336 mentions of Twitter, and 162 mentions of FriendFeed, and 275 mentions of Google. I think I'm pretty much on the spot :)
- Yuvi
try another perspective: Statistically Improbable Phrases, which is running on GAE Google App Engine http://bit.ly/improb -- here's the tag cloud view on the micropersuasion blog http://short.to/ixq

are outsiders invited to the party? (this is pinar, talking from SJ who came to a summit in Google and will fly back to Turkey on saturday-- and she really wants to see a halloween party.. =)

I won't boo the logo, but as someone who gets creeped out by this holiday, I'd REALLY appreciate a link to opt out of a seasonal logo/chrome change. I'm feeling a bit "stuck" in my FF client today to avoid the repeated annoyance.

since when did ghosts have amputated feet ....
- johnpiercy
Who did the art work? it is simply stunning! Those mis-matched socks and the shoe lace are fantastic!! very very well done!! Great attention to detail!
- Susan Beebe
John, they aren't amputated! He even has socks and shoes. That little ghosty is CUTE! He wins the internets today.

"A prototype of the next version was unveiled last month, and it looks a lot like the laptop you're going to buy in five years. No, I'm not kidding. Your laptop will look and function more or less like the XO 2.0. It's a brilliant -- and prescient -- design."
- Jason Wehmhoener
$30K in late 2008. 130mpg on gas, up to 120 miles range pure electric. CA residents can secure their orders now for $500. Getting composite construction costs down seems to be key to the low price.

"The Aptera will comfortably fit someone that is 6'1" and with minor seat pad adjustments you can be as tall as 6'5" and drive comfortably."

Would be nice if all the onboard software was opensource and modifiable. For those of us that might like to tinker.. ;)
- Derek Collison
Seth, what do you think is missing? I wish it had space for 4 and proven crash tests.
- Sanjeev Singh
Funny. I interpreted Seth's comment as 'now is so close to being the future' rather than 'the car is so close...'
- Kevin Fox
That's right. The car is so future it almost flies. I wonder what the maintenance costs are like. Just going by gas @ $3/gal, it'd take over a million miles to break even vs my already-paid-for 14-year-old 34mpg Saturn, for which the maintenance costs are pretty close to zero. Presumably my car's maintenance costs would rise before it hit 1M miles. :)
- Seth
Is there a chance for residents outside CA to get one? Anyone wanna bootleg one for me in CA?
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Louis! Replace the Mercuford! Naah, it doesn't have four seats... ;-)
- Stephen Foskett
I completely misread Sanjeev's comment originally. I thought the whole thing sold for $500. I was gonna buy a fleet. :-p
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
slippy, in what ways are they worse for the environment?
- Sanjeev Singh
The normally cited problems are the environmental cost of electricity generation (multiplied by transmission cost and charging inefficiency) and of battery production and disposal. The trolls aren't normally very good about citing figures, but we'll see how this one does.
- ⓞnor
I never realized cars had such lousy aerodynamics. A 1939 P-38 Lightning (aircraft) had a drag coefficient of 0.02 even with twin engines, props, twin booms and 52ft of wingspan The aptera, for all its whizz-bangness only manages 0.11. Tesla Roadster: 0.3. Honda Civic: 0.36
- Sanjeev Singh
Drag coefficient is relative to frontal area, so an airplane with a big wingspan does well. Cut the wings off the Lightning and its Cd will go up. For cars, the number you really want is drag force compared to interior volume or something. Or maybe just absolute drag force at some speed?
- ⓞnor
Kinda neat, but I still want that SkyCar!
- Rick Mahn
@nor, that's a good point. The drag area (a better metric) of a 1945 P-80 Shooting Star is just 3.2 sq ft. vs 7.34 sq ft for a 2001 civic.
- Sanjeev Singh
Looks very cool. I'm living in China, where electric scooters are popular; they would work well in North America too for shorter distances (20-30 miles per charge). You can get one for under $150 here.

Looks like something out of the Woody Allen movie titled Sleeper.
- Rob Safuto
I'd be more impressed if I could play this game AND read my Friendfeed at the same time on my iPhone. (I'm hinting at multiple-screen capabilities)
