Got a friend that asked me the strangest question, looking for some advice. His boss told him to spend money, lots of money, so he wants to know how do you spend $20k not on employees and not on assets?

He has to spend it before the end of the month. And I think his boss might be testing him, so it has to benefit the business and make them money. It's a smallish company that manufactures and sells HTPC's, multimedia centers, and digital signage players. - April Russo (app103)

Just caught wind of some neat promotions from a few web apps. You guys heard about any?
Not a promotion from a web app, but DonationCoder is in full swing with their NANY 2010 event. Make a pledge, then release a new freeware application on or before Jan 1 for some cool swag. Got a really useful AHK script that others might be interested in? This year is first with mini-NANY entries. http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums... - April Russo (app103)

whats wrong with these people ? They need to be treated the same way as they treated the kid ! "Antionette White, 22, and Kevin Straight, 32, who have been identified as the girl’s biological parents !" - THEY DONT DESERVE A KID - Peter Dawson
take the kid away. sterilize both of these monsters. then draft them as 'human drones' for the war effort in Afghanistan for 18 months. If they survive, they can come back and stand trial for what they did to this kid. Serve the time. Get out. Then they can go back to being people. But no kids allowed. Just my thoughts on this horrible situation. - Morgan Haley
It seems to me that this kind of behavior comes out of a culture that does not see children as having their own relationship with God that is primary and a failure to understand that the relationship of parent to child is one of stewardship and that a report will have to be given to the Eternal Justice on how that stewardship was handled. - Jeremy (quasimodo)

Well, it's probably against a few rules, but damn...it's a baby. OK, I change my recommendation to old school China style: Try these fuggers, find them guilty, take them out front, shoot them in the head, charge each of their families for the bullets and the holes they get dumped in. - Morgan Haley

@Rahsheen, if he was whopping her around, she has recourse to defence. A Child has no recourse, until some1 tells and that is the sad part. How can a mother permit that to happen to their Kid and how can a father do that ?? - Peter Dawson
Sadly even at this age the baby probably has permanent emotional damage, I hope they are able to place it with someone who can help :( Very sad situation. I do think the mother bears responsibility, I object to the term "crack head". - Andrizzle Gizzle
@Rah For a lot of battered women, it's a lot more complicated than that. Some fear certain death for themselves and their children if they leave, and possibility of just being beaten if they stay. Some fear that they will be killed and then the kids will end up with the abuser, without anyone to protect them at all. Some cases, the woman is being abused but not the kids. and she has... more... - April Russo (app103)

Re: running exe and folders from a folder. - http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums...
LBC comes with Control Panel preconfigured and the items in it seem to work just fine on my XP SP3. It's a folder with this set as the "root folder to display": %APPDIR%\Shortcuts\My Control Panel [attachthumb=1] I suppose you can add shortcuts to that folder for any items that are missing that you would need to access. I don't have a My Computer on my LBC, as I prefer to have individual shortcuts to drives on the taskbar and I also use my DriveKeysAtoZ app to access drives in Explorer with hotkeys or I use Win+E for just Explorer. So I am not sure how to configure that. Mouser or someone else will have to explain that one. As far as the issue with network folders and network shortcuts, I am not sure what to tell you about that either. Unless mouser has a better idea, I would suggest having different toolbar configurations for both work and home, with the home one not having the extra network f... - April Russo (app103)

Why did I decide to upgrade to WP 2.9? Now my blog is broken. These errors are beyond my grasp. *cries*
Did you backup your original folder and database before upgrading like you are supposed to? If you did, then replace it all with your backup and you should have it back the way it was before the upgrade. - April Russo (app103)
This is a WP emergency folks! Get on it! - Yolanda
did you upload everything? did you wipe out your plugins directory? try re-uploading everything. - tiffany
I was in the middle of the automatic upgrade and started getting errors that some file didn't exist. No problem, I'll just make it. So I did and now I'm getting another error. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to update my database with the old database, but that's not working. - Admiral Anika
do you have phpmyadmin available? export the old DB. do a fresh install. import the old data. and in the future: NEVER EVER DO AN AUTOMATIC UPGRADE. i learned that the hard way. automatic upgrade is a special kind of borked that fails on enough systems that it should be yanked as a feature. FTP is the best way. - tiffany
The only time I've ever had a problem with AU is when I used the WP one. I use a plugin that's always worked for me. I do have phpmyadmin, but I don't know how to use these things. I think the last time I tried to install an old database I wound up with some templates. LOL - Admiral Anika

I need to upgrade MySQL to upgrade to WP2.9 so I've not done so yet. Sounds like I perhaps shouldn't. - Kol Tregaskes
I have heard that WP2.9 requires a minimum version of MySQL that not all hostings have. It's Ok, but WP Guys should have put a BIG warning upfront. I have heard of many many people running into troubles with this upgrade. - gibilix
Yeah, a big warning on the dashboard would have been ideal. So am I just screwed until my hosting company does the upgrade? - Admiral Anika
The min required mysql version is 4.2 or something right? Your host probably has higher versions available, just not on your box. Ask if they can move your account to a new server. Mysql's latest version is 5.1 or 5.2. - tiffany from Android

there are a metric tonne of star wars books, tales from mos eisley cantina was a good one - Mike Chelen
I always go with Roald Dahl. You can't go wrong. I also love the Neverending Story which I think I read around that age. If they like books already perhaps also something from the classics, I loved Jules Verne when I was young (come to think of it, that explains quite a lot) - sofiagk
In the genre of drawing books, The ones by Ed Emberley were huge favorites of mine when I was a kid. The best was Make a World. Besides teaching how to follow step-by-step instructions, it gave me a whole new way of looking at complicated things, and taught me to break them down into the simplest parts. This is a skill that carries way past drawing, into just about any task one would ever need to complete. http://www.amazon.com/gp... - April Russo (app103)
Sofia - these are all great ideas, I'm with you on all of these :D April: I'd never head of these, thanks for the tip! - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hmm... 2 to 10. Ours is 4 and loves Paddington books which are probably not a very good suggestion for UK kids. :-) We also read a lot of books by Sven Nordqvist from "Pettson and Findus" and "Mama Muu" series. These are great but I don't know if quality translations to English are available. - Andrey Ivanov
Tove Jansson's Moomin books are good. We staged a theatrical play based on them on one birthday party and kids loved it. But again these are all good when translated to Russian. Not sure about English versions. - Andrey Ivanov
And Astrid Lindgren of course. - Andrey Ivanov
we had recently switched our little girl to English-only daycare, and they had delivered some reading list based on ages, made by UK shop which helps them with UK-adjusted kids books. If you ping me tomorrow, I can try to find few titles... - A.T.

recent faves of my kids (6, 9) are anything in the "diary of a wimpy kid" series and the "bad kitty" series. The latter's author (Nick Bruel) has a bunch of hilarious books, most with great reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Nick-Br... - Mickey Schafer
ok, one of books from Winnie the Witch series, presumably targeted at 4-5 age. Unfortunately we left catalog at daycare when wife brought order form :-/ - A.T.
Joelle, you can't go wrong with a Robert Munsch story (especially for younger kids) - there's one involving fishing: A Promise is a Promise http://www.amazon.co.uk/Promise... - Micah Wittman
I'm set for next year too now :) @aivanov Moomin was I think started in english (oddly enough) so translations are good. And Astrid Lindgren, of course, what a good idea, not sure the parents will thank me after the kids read Pippi Longstocking... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
@silpol A.T. Winnie looks great, when my niece is a tad older I will definitely bring them! @msscha Mickey: thanks for the Bad Kittie and Wimpy references, the first will definitively work well for one of them I think, and the Wimpy Kid brought me to "Stink and the Great Guinea Pig Express" which fits another one of them I think :) @isola those popups are crazy, that genre's certainly come a long way since i was a kid - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
one more question to all you parents: what makes sense when they are small, our niece is 16mo old and I know they have everything and then some. Wanted to stick to books but does it make sense to get a book for the really small or should i get a book slightly older that she can follow? Any books that worked really well from really young but had lasting value? @micah Would books... more... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
for 16 monther it might make sense to buy "toy book" - they are made from different materials (with different tangible effects and feelings), have some primitive figures inside and mostly to develop finger pads (known as tactile pads, and responsible for mental development) - A.T.

An E-Book Buyer's Guide to Privacy | Electronic Frontier Foundation
"As we count down to end of 2009, the emerging star of this year's holiday shopping season is shaping up to be the electronic book reader (or e-reader). From Amazon's Kindle to Barnes and Noble's forthcoming Nook, e-readers are starting to transform how we buy and read books in the same way mp3s changed how we buy and listen to music. Unfortunately, e-reader technology also presents significant new threats to reader privacy. E-readers possess the ability to report back substantial information about their users' reading habits and locations to the corporations that sell them. And yet none of the major e-reader manufacturers have explained to consumers in clear unequivocal language what data is being collected about them and why. As a first step towards addressing these problems, EFF has created a first draft of our Buyer's Guide to E-Book Privacy. We've examined the privacy policies for the major e-readers on the market to determine what information they reserve the right to collect and share." - April Russo (app103) from Bookmarklet

Accents Are Forever: By their first birthday, babies are getting locked into the sounds of the language they hear spoken - http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science...
"The 6-month-old lies happily in the crib, cooing and babbling to the beaming parents and grandparents who respond encouragingly, eagerly anticipating that first word, that distinguishable "Mama" or "Dada." But, of course, 6 months is too soon to expect such a landmark utterance. Not until somewhere around the first birthday will Baby have developed the power of speech and thus be able to repeat and imitate those cute sounds the adults are making. Prior to that, words are just background noise that doesn't register on the infant brain. Right? Sorry, wrong, Patricia Kuhl is saying. Well before that first word is joyfully recorded on Baby's growth chart, according to Kuhl, who is director of the Center for Mind, Brain, and Learning at the University of Washington, the supine little person is taking in and carefully filing for future use the nuances of pronunciation—and mispronunciation—of the language heard at cribside. As early as 6 months, Baby begins to differentiate one bit of... more... - April Russo (app103) from Bookmarklet

Prison Students Illustrate the Shortcomings of Public Schools - http://www.usnews.com/article...
"The notorious Rikers Island, home to 10 of New York City's jails, sits in the East River just across from La Guardia Airport. The island is an imposing array of razor wire, security check points, and fortified buildings spread across more than 400 acres. Life here is punctuated by the sounds of incarceration--metal on metal clanging as gates and metal doors bolt shut, shouts, and alarms. Although violence has declined in the past decade the jails remain dangerous places and tension is palpable. Rikers Island is also a public school. Among the 14,000 inmate residents of Rikers are approximately a thousand school-age youngsters. They sit in desks like other students in classrooms that look like classrooms elsewhere. Yet correctional officers stand at each door and the necessities of running jails clash daily with the imperatives of running a school. Today more than 100,000 juveniles are incarcerated around the country. Schools for prisoners are obviously the extreme of the alternative... more... - April Russo (app103) from Bookmarklet

"Hewlett-Packard is investigating a claim that Webcams built into its PCs are incapable of tracking the facial movements of black individuals and only function properly when Caucasians or people of other lighter-skinned races are in the frame. The probe was prompted by a YouTube video in which a black man named Desi demonstrates the problem. The camera, which is designed to follow individuals' head movements, fails to track Desi as he moves in and out of the picture. But when Desi's white co-worker, Wanda, enters the scene the camera follows her. "As soon as my blackness enters the frame, it stopped," says Desi. "Black Desi gets in there, no face recognition anymore buddy," says Desi. "I'm going on the record and I'm saying it, Hewlett-Packard computers are racist," adds Desi, who says he's using an HP Media Smart PC. TWO CLEVER THOUGHTS Readers of Small Business Trends provided two intriguing ideas we liked. “One of the smartest things I’ve done in the past is to waive my consulting fee, telling the customer to ‘pay me what you think it was worth, or nothing at all,’ ” says Jim Kukral, who describes himself as the Biz Web Coach. Or, for five recipes in English, go to http://www.yanuq.com/english... and do a browser search for Duck. - Betsy (bentley) Vera
Okay, Brown's recipe won't do. 3 - 4 days? Not only do I lack room in my fridge for a laid out duck, but we need to eat tonight. - Admiral Anika
Christopher, see the 2nd comment on this thread. Also see, the first comment here: http://friendfeed.com/fabooma... - Admiral Anika
I see it now! But then I should've gone back to your epic post earlier in the year. - Christopher Harley
Ah I was thinking it was for Christmas. Duck is obnoxiously expensive around here or I'd try it. - Gunny doesn't side-hug™
I see, Gunny. I bought this duck back in November for Thanksgiving. I just thawed it yesterday so need to cook it tonight. - Admiral Anika
11 herbs and spices and a pressure cooker sounds good. :) - Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Anika, there's a good-looking duck recipe in a cookbook I got recently. I'll send you the recipe when I get home. I should be there in an hour or so. (Simple and no fruit) - ha3rvey (just a friend)
Yay, no fruit! - Admiral Anika
Have you thought about trying Alton Brown's recipe without the brining? Just steam and roast. And if you don't want the duck fat, we'll have to find a way for you to ship it to me. - ha3rvey (just a friend)
Oh, April, I like that recipe. I have miso paste here and was thinking that adding some garlic and spices to it would be awsome. - Admiral Anika
Ha3rvey, I'm going to use the duck fat for the potatoes I think. I saw you mention it and I have a recipe I've been dying to try out. - Admiral Anika
DO IT. Potatoes dream of being cooked in duck fat. - ha3rvey (just a friend)
All I remember is Iron Chef hanging a duck upside down and using a blow dryer to dry the hell out of the skin before roasting. It was well liked as I recall. - Michael W. May
Heh. I used my heat gun at a distance. - Admiral Anika

Microsoft loses Word appeal, will adjust program - http://www.reuters.com/article...
"Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) said on Tuesday it will tweak its Word application to remove a feature judged to be a breach of patent, ensuring that it will be able to continue selling one of its most widely used programs. The world's largest software company made the announcement shortly after a U.S. court of appeals upheld a $290 million jury verdict against it for infringing a patent held by a small Canadian software firm. The court also affirmed an injunction that prevents Microsoft from selling versions of its Word program which contain the offending software, set to take effect Jan. 11, 2010. Older versions of Word are not affected." - April Russo (app103) from Bookmarklet

Mexico City moves to legalize same-sex marriage - http://www.latimes.com/news...
Mexico City moves to legalize same-sex marriage
"In a move that may put Mexico City at odds with the rest of the country, the local legislature approved a far-reaching gay rights bill Monday, voting to allow people of the same sex to marry and to adopt children. The leftist-dominated legislature of this massive city of about 20 million people turned aside opposition from the influential Roman Catholic Church and ended lively debate to approve the measure by a 39-20 vote. Mayor Marcelo Ebrard is expected to sign the bill into law. "Mexico City has put itself in the vanguard," said legislator Victor Hugo Romo. "This is a historic day." Mexico City's initiative goes further than any other in Latin America by rewriting the law to redefine marriage as a "free union between two people," not only between a man and a woman. It gives homosexual couples the same rights as heterosexual pairs, including the right to adopt, inherit, obtain joint housing loans and share insurance policies." - April Russo (app103) from Bookmarklet
Admiral Anika
People say I'm an extremely picky eater. They confuse my strong revulsion and opinions about certain items as being "picky". That is not my problem. These are the things I won't eat:
Orange items except for oranges and the occasional raw carrot. - Admiral Anika
Walnuts or pecans - Admiral Anika
Chocolate items I don't make. Total snob about where I get my chocolate from. I won't eat brownies, fudge, chocolate cake or chocolate frosting. - Admiral Anika
White sauces save for Alfredo. - Admiral Anika
Peanut butter. I'll eat a PayDay, but PB sauces or peanuts in my food = GAG. - Admiral Anika
Fruity meat dishes. I don't like sweet meats. - Admiral Anika
Pancakes. This actually is a childhood block. We had to eat them so often when my brother was little because it was the only thing he would eat. - Admiral Anika
Beets. - Admiral Anika
I guess Anika will be taken to a restaurant if she ever visits my home.o_0 Peanut butter is closest thing to heaven! - Janet
Coconut. It smells like suntan lotion. I will use a little coconut oil in some dishes, but if it's not Thai or Malaysian food, I won't eat it. - Admiral Anika
Picky? No, not at all. - Christopher Harley
You're not a picky eater, you're just cuh-razy. - Derrick
You don't like coconut? Oh my. - Michelle Martinez
Internal organs. - Admiral Anika
Sweetbreads? - Christopher Harley
There are some very nice Indian recipes with coconuts - Deepti
Oatmeal or shreaded wheat cereals. Seriously. I'm not a horse. - Admiral Anika
Isn't a muscle an internal organ? - Akiva Moskovitz
Do not be contrary with me, Christopher Harley. - Akiva Moskovitz
It's tissue. - Christopher Harley
Mushroom and bell peppers. I love the flavor they give foods, but I won't eat them. I'll push them aside. - Admiral Anika
"sweet meats" LOL - ha3rvey (just a friend)
How else do I describe that? Orange chicken is wrong. Raisins in food is wrong. I used to cry picking raisins out of my biryani when I was a kid. - Admiral Anika
Caramel. Just. No. - Admiral Anika
Now I want oatmeal with walnuts and coconut and raisins. - Christopher Harley
Yeah. This certainly isn't picky. I can't believe anyone could ever make this mistake. - Akiva Moskovitz
I won't eat cole slaw unless I make it. No one else does it right. - Admiral Anika
Just curious Anika, how many times as an adult have you retried these things? Sometimes it takes a mature palate to appreciate. - Janet
Alfredo will be glad you've spared his white sauce. - Christopher Harley
I just don't like guacamole. Everything else I eat with the abandon of a man released from prison due to his conviction being overturned on DNA analysis. - Derrick
Okay, I'm with you on the raisins. - ha3rvey (just a friend)
And the reason I say I'm not a picky eater is that with the exception of Vietnamese food, I'll eat food from anywhere on the planet. I have friends who think it's strange that I eat sushi, Middle Eastern or African food. They can not get their heads around the fact that Cuban food is not the same as Mexican food. They say that I'm "inventive" when it comes to my dishes because I use fresh veggies/herbs instead of canned or dried ones. - Admiral Anika
Janet, with the except of oatmeal, everything I've listed above has been served or offered to me within the last week. Still nasty. - Admiral Anika
Okay, you are not 'picky' but per se a food snob? j/k - Janet
Calling Anika a food snob is not fair to REAL food snobs!!! - Christopher Harley
You must have been frequenting a LOT of potlucks if you've been served or offered all of the above within the last 7 days. - Rochelle
I've met toddlers less fussy when it comes to food. - Akiva Moskovitz
The only food I avoid is one prepared by minimum wage employees. - Christopher Harley
When I first met Adrian 10 years ago, I would not eat fish. In my world fish was served two ways: fried to death or grilled with butter. He got me to try it again and I'm glad he did. Now, I eat all kinds of fish, even sushi. He could even tell you how when he first introduced me to sushi, I would eat albacore and unagi. Now, I eat just about everything except for uni & tako. Oh and mackerel...too fishy. - Admiral Anika
Anika, that's not so bad. I think I have some acquaintances who could give you a real run for your money when it comes to "pickiness". - ha3rvey (just a friend)
How about "only eats fried chicken and hamburgers"? Every. Stinkin'. Day. Won't eat anything green. Has two kids. - ha3rvey (just a friend)
Potlucks, Rochelle? What? Anyway, thank you Harvey. I feel the same way. One of my friends who makes a huge production out of "let's cater the menu to Anika" even though I have no problem picking stuff out of my food and NEVER say anything rude when it's served, is acting all dramatic because I told her the yak at the Tibetan place is really good. She can't believe that anyone would eat yak on purpose. Whatever. - Admiral Anika
Can you eat paella? If I couldn't, I'd have to kill myself. - Christopher Harley
To be honest, this really sounds like more an OCD condition than anything else, Anika. - Ben Parr
OMG, here we go. - Christopher Harley
Janet, I don't think I'm a total food snob at least not to the extent of feeling the need to brag about organic this and that. I do prefer fresh over canned. I prefer new recipes over the pedestrian. If someone serves me something that seems lifted from the back of a can, I get a little sad. - Admiral Anika
Anika, you listed off about 20 food items that you said you've been offered or served in the past week. So, given that, I would assume you're going to a lot of potlucks or other similar events with a lot of food present. - Rochelle
Christopher, I can only eat paella when it doesn't have pork in it. Anything else in it varies drastically depending on who is making it. I find that my Spanish friends make it way different than my Brazilian ones. In mixed foods like that I can usually eat something I prefer not to as long as it's not a strong taste. One of the Cuban restaurants we go to will not use certain items if I ask. - Admiral Anika
Like even though I don't like cooked carrots or peas, I will eat them in fried rice because they're supposed to be in there. But don't ask me to eat a German chocolate cake. That's just completely foul since it's made of everything that makes me gag. - Admiral Anika
Well, on the bright-side, there's still a lot out there that you will eat. - Christopher Harley
I should do a list like this. People say I'm picky. I say "I only eat real food." - ha3rvey (just a friend)
The thing that's funny is that several months ago I did a list like this of foods I liked and people were saying, "OMG, you eat that? That's nasty!" - Admiral Anika
Yay, I never thought I'd meet someone with as strong convictions about what they eat as myself. - Penguin It's Cold Outside
I dunno Anika. I would say you're definitely particular about what you won't eat. some people are particular about *everything* and others don't seem to be particular about anything at all. most of us fall in the middle somewhere. - jbrotherlove
And some last ones: milk, kettlecorn, syrup, papaya and banana-flavored stuff (except banana bread). :) - Admiral Anika
I'm with you on the caramel Anika! - Charlotte M from iPhone
So what is being picky, if not having "strong revulsion and opinions about certain items" ? - Andrew C
Anika, you're picky. :-D There's no way around it. - Jason Huebel
No internal organs? Ohh come now, what's wrong with a good squishy brain? - Mo Kargas
I've not yet received my zombie card. - Admiral Anika
I'm with you on everything but the nuts, pancakes, and oatmeal. Oh, and milk. I'll eat kettlecorn but it's meh, mostly. I'm a lot pickier, though. - Alix Whitmire
I'd say the only thing I won't knowingly eat is organs. Particularly filtering/digestive organs. The only exception to that is liver and I'll only eat it in boudain. - Jason Huebel
I am so happy to read all of this b/c I no longer feel like I'm the only particular person on the planet. - Katy S
I ate too much water melon when I was 10 and become very sick. After that my family said I was too lazy to pick out the seeds. Jerks all of them, but I do love them still. - Russellreno
Russell, you just reminded me. I also don't eat watermelon, though I'll eat watermelon flavored candies. - Admiral Anika
OK, not liking watermelon is just weird. You can't survive the heat here in Texas without watermelon. :-P - Jason Huebel
But it's grainy! And then the seeds...all that spitting. *shudder* - Admiral Anika
I'm with you on watermelon! I've actually never once had a piece of watermelon, I just know I won't like it. I don't eat strawberries for much the same reason, but love anything and everything strawberry flavoured. I think my pickiness comes from food texture issues. - Penguin It's Cold Outside
Yes, I'm huge on texture, Penguin, but it's weird. Like I won't eat pudding or yogurt for that reason. I can eat raw oysters, scallops (raw or cooked) and steamed mussels with mental preparedness, yet I can't eat smoked clams. I can eat cooked, raw and heat-smoked salmon, but lox makes me gag unless it's smothered in something. - Admiral Anika
Disowning for not liking CARAMEL. I will take caramel every time over chocolate. LOVE it. It's my favorite non-fruity sweetness. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm. Golden sweet buttery gooey wonderfulness. - Fa La La La Lindsay
You can have mine, Lindsay. More for you. You may even like the caramel I make. Apparently it's good stuff. - Admiral Anika
Wow, won't even eat the stuff you make?? I couldn't deal! - Fa La La La Lindsay
I make a lot of things I won't eat because everyone else likes it. Food is to be enjoyed by everyone. I think it would suck if I held everyone hostage to my whims. - Admiral Anika
German Chocolate Cake = the. best. cake. ever. - Laura Norvig
Sounds to me like you could use a good long trip to the real world, where people are hungry and eat what they can afford. - Will Higgins™
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. - Akiva Moskovitz
Wow Will, what a useful suggestion as always. =) - Admiral Anika
Will wanted to sneak that one in. Who's lookin'? EVERYBODY. - Christopher Harley
LOL @Christopher & Akiva I'm used to Will spouting off from his high horse. It's amusing to me. - Admiral Anika
I have a friend who's about as picky as you. Whenever she visits she always finds time to eat my treats but turn her nose up at anything I'm cooking. I don't regard fussiness as admirable, that's all. I've seen people who are doing it rough. Maybe if you did too, you might change. - Will Higgins™
I'm just as picky and I've never once thought it was an admirable thing. My question to you, Will, is why do I have to change? I'm generally polite and if presented with something at someone's home that I don't particularly care for, I'll try it and endure it if I have to, but when I'm on my own, who am I hurting by giving in to my silly whims? - pea
I'm not saying anyone has to change! I'm just stating my opinion and clarifying why I feel the way I do about the matter. - Will Higgins™
I apologize for being uncouth. Perhaps I could have tried starting a discussion about the merits of fussiness in a more respectful and mature manner. - Will Higgins™
Not eating something because you dislike the taste, texture in the mouth, smell all seem legitimate. But having a revulsion, opinion about foods based on colour does seem a bit out there don't you think? - Brian Sullivan
=) Will, like I said, I'm used to it now. It's just how you are. Last year it used to annoy me, but I know (hope?) that you mean well. But your comment was such a parental moment. - Admiral Anika
I'm about as couth as Rush Limbaugh. And an egoist, and I always think I'm right. Funny you say that I'm parenty 'coz it's totally like that with my picky friend. People look to me and say 'she needs to do this and this, don't you agree?' and I always say 'I don't care what she does, she's a big girl now' EXCEPT with the eating thing. Then I'm always on her case. - Will Higgins™
I agree with many of those dislikes. Exceptions are mushrooms, peppers, and white sauces. The others I either hate or could easily do without. - Jen (SquirrelGirl) from iPhone
The German Chocolate Cake is NOT a lie. - Christopher Harley
Squash. - Admiral Anika
Squash is the devil's vegetable. - Brian Sullivan
and she said, "NO FRUIT ON MEAT!" - Christopher Harley
Christopher, that's #6! - Admiral Anika
From your list, the only 2 things I won't eat are internal organs and beets. There are a few things I won't eat if they are prepared a certain way, like zucchini can NOT be simmered in tomato sauce...that will make me gag. And I won't eat okra, no matter what you do to it. And garlic doesn't belong on top of a bagel. And I don't like grape anything. Cherry flavored stuff is pretty close... more... - April Russo (app103)
Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I wonder if I can find someone's instrumental album and make a mixtape out of it...that would be awesome...
Start with Mogwai. - Jeremy (quasimodo)
What kind of stuff do you need? I happen to know where to find tons of CC licensed stuff, and I kind of specialize in the instrumental stuff, since that's just about all I listen to when I am working. - April Russo (app103)
Josh Woodward makes instrumental tracks of most of his songs available. License info: http://www.joshwoodward.com/etc... His music: http://www.joshwoodward.com/music... Not sure if that's quite what you want, but if you need something else, let me know. - April Russo (app103)
Well, I *don't* want your standard hip-hop/rap beats. That would be too easy. Thanks for the links :) - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Oh, yeah. This is good stuff. Definitely going to use 2020 for something... - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Oh, this wouldn't be that, that's for sure...might have to add a little something to it to make it work. he covers a few genres, so I am sure you can find /something/. - April Russo (app103)
Ian May
What do you call a blind reindeer?
no eye deer - April Russo (app103)
"I see" said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer, and saw. - Mike Nencetti
