Kol lives in the UK and can't listen to his favorite Pandora station any more and really misses it. If we all listen to it and tag the songs we hear, on last.fm with "kol pandora" then he can stream it from there. So start listening on Pandora & tagging on last.fm for him. http://www.pandora.com/...

It's not the kind of stuff I have been listening to in more recent days, but it is definitely in the taste of the "former me" so I am rather enjoying it.

It's switched to A Day in the Life, and now I see why critics said Julian Lennon needed to get his own style after he released Valotte.

They allow paid accounts outside the US? I thought Pandora didn't do that and paid accounts only gave extra listening and no ads to people within the US.

From what I know about Kol, from the things he has posted here on friendfeed, I don't think he really can afford it at this time, which is why I am trying to recreate his Pandora station on last.fm for him. But this isn't something I can do alone, for the station to be publicly streamable for free. I am currently going through the list of artists and songs he originally seeded it with, as well as any songs he thumbed up and tagging them to build it faster.

This is very kind of you. There is no service at all for Pandora outside the US due to licensing issues, paid or otherwise. As for Last.fm, it's free for me, though I've seen a Subscriber button but no no idea what you get for it. I think it's for a select few countries.

I am a last.fm subscriber. I can stream any station, anyone's favorites, anyone's playlists. Plus I can see who has visited my profile recently.
- April Russo (app103)
I've seen Last.fm mention limits on playlists but never investigated it further.
- Kol Tregaskes
That's why the tagging idea is better. There is no maximum number of songs or artists that can be included in a public tag station. For playlists it is capped at around 200.

I always thought the subscriber option was for specific countries, I've never been limited (or been aware of being limited) to what I listen to on Last.fm. From the page Mark posted it says the subscriber option gives me uninterrupted radio listening: already have that, ad-free browsing and streaming: yep got that, recent visitors: don't have that but not worried, black logo: not worried either.

Ads in streams on last.fm? Never heard one before and never see an ad on the site, even before I subscribed. ;-)

This is what I get on pandora.com: "We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative."
- Kol Tregaskes
April, exactly, so I wouldn't but the subscriber option anyway, I don't see any bonus to it. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
But the issue isn't subscribing to last.fm which you can listen to for free...the issue is pandora, which you are cut off from. Which is why the need for recreating a streamable station on last.fm.
- April Russo (app103)
April, I realise that, I'm just wondering why there is a subscriber option at all? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Scott, hehe, I don't get many people with a rating higher than Low anyway. :-)

I became a paid last.fm subscriber for ethical reasons. I get a lot of free music from them...downloads...and I know the unsigned artists I am downloading their stuff get a bit of money for each download and stream. The way I figure it, I am supporting a service that helps unknown unsigned artists get discovered and actually pays them for it. I like to think the money I paid is going to support that aspect of the service.
