Back before the iPhone 3G I was seriously considering going this route. Mostly because I'm in Canada and we didn't have the iPhone yet, and partly because I'm always up for a challenge. Turns out my laziness won out. I bought a 3G iPhone as soon as I could.

I'd love to see someone try this out for a year.

It seems like a good idea until you want to accept phone calls. :/

Skype in should take care of that Dustin. :)

But only if you leave skype running all the time, right?
- Dustin Sallings
I already have google voice ringing skype for me. :)

Holden, I'm not sure. We still can't "get it" in Canada. /sigh

Do push notifications work for ipod touch? I really know little about the touch.
- Dustin Sallings
Excellent. All we need is is a phone -> webhook service, then.

kurt, you could probably just keep the mifi in a laptop bag or bookbag. No need to fry a noodle. ;)

I've actually thought about this. I have WiFi most places I go, and other places I don't really have to take the phone call. The bandwidth cap on the MiFi scares me, however.

I grab all the heavy stuff on more terrestrial lines. Mifi is typically for syncing up git repos, email, etc... I'm sure I won't get close to a limit, but I do agree it is scary.

I think the major price differential between the two options makes having to carry around the mifi a bit of a moot point. I'd strap the thing to my leg if it means saving a hundred dollars a month on my phone bills.

Thought about this setup but i would love to see voip built into mifi.
