"A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend THATCamp Games. The “unconference” is one of a number of THATCamp (The Humanities and Technology Camp) events held throughout the year. This was the first games-specific THATCamp, and as I’m working on further developing my own “making” skills, the bootcamps and sessions proved quite relevant."

"Skillport (which you can find at https://gmu.skillport.com ) is a great resource that's available to everyone at Mason and that no one seems to know about. If you're IT it's especially useful, as it provides a huge number of free online courses for various certifications. If you're not, there's still plenty of great info on there. If you're interested in learning how to use various Adobe Creative Suite products, STAR Labs provides decent training programs at http://ittraining.gmu.edu/worksho.... They also administer some certification tests at the lab. They also freely lend out video and audio equipment, which can be useful. Also, George Mason University's IT and MSOM programs both have subscriptions to the Microsoft Software Developers Network for Academics, which allows you to legally download a whole host of expensive Microsoft software for free (including Windows 7 and Microsoft Project). In MSOM's case, you are granted entrance depending on the class. When..."

"Hi! Yes, if you can take any classes with Mark Sample or Alan Cheuse, jump on them immediately! They're two great instructors. Another person to look for, if you are interested in digital literature and building stories using new media tools is Dean Taciuch. Any class they teach is well worth taking. Cheuse's short stories class (I think it was ENGL497 Scene-Making Workshop) is especially good if you're in English for the creative writing side of things. If you like Science Fiction, Amelia Rutledge teaches a great class on it, though it was one of the toughest I ever took at Mason. I took ENGL398 with Art Taylor and though the class was sort of weirdly structured, I still enjoyed it. I'm not sure if they still offer it, but I was able to take THR490 for English credit and got some great insights into screenplay writing."

"No one has to. I just figured that I'd offer a room for meetups and give people the heads up that I was here. I figured you'd want to know if some of the comments were made by someone who works for the university."

"Yes, that stat means that GMU is no longer officially recognized as a commuter school. Apparently, once you have more than a quarter of your student population on campus, US News removes that classification. So in that sense it is not."

"a quick tutorial together on how to use jQuery to make perfect rounded corner images dynamically. Today I'm going to revisit the topic and show you how much more you can do with the background-image CSS trick. I will show you how to use box-shadow, border-radius and transition to create various image styles."

"I've never encountered this issue. However, I suppose it would be possible to take whatever folder on your computer that has the podcasts in it and sync that folder with Amazon Cloud Player (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/... or Google Music and then you can stream or download podcasts through those apps' interface. That will allow you to avoid the annoying middle step of downloading the files through Dropbox (assuming you don't care about downloading it)."

"Waiiiit a second... so if I'm very active across my social media I have *less* of an impact on others in my network, even if I do more? So if someone were to have an account that did nothing for two years and then retweeted something I'd done... would that count for more than a very active account retweeting it? That doesn't seem to make any sense."

"Great food. Nice sized portions and good value. The 25% off for anyone with a GMU ID makes it a must go for Mason folks. Plus you can get the food really spicy. When it comes to Fairfax food, it…"

Again, the F pattern. It’s a frequently recurring topic worth noting, as it really seems to be the strongest and most consistent trend we see coming out of the various web usability studies throughout the industry. When designing a site, a paper, or a page, it’s important to know how a person

"I fully blame Apple, who has been playing this game for a decade now. They've built a company around the philosophy of giving you less options and less customization and it has worked so well that everyone else is following suit. I want to be able to decide how to use the devices I pay for, I don't want someone else to decide for me. It's the tyranny of simplicity and be depressed, because it seems like it is only going to get worse, look at how Microsoft is rolling out "The Ribbon" http://bit.ly/rrZkXo"

"Yes, you need to get online to use the theme and post content. However, the 3G version of the Kindle doesn't require a monthly fee, the cost of the internet connection is built into the initial price. My advice is pick up the 3G version. For $50 extra dollars it is absolutely worth it. You get internet pretty much anywhere."
