Always keep in mind the science we learned in growing up....ie: how does a kite fly? ie: how does a parachute work? These ideas will help you realize that we are really at the mercy of the wind when we have three sides of our tent closed....where does the wind go? usually it tries to go through it and when it can't it pushes out or up. (the worst storms like Omaha...even a zippered up tent with wind from every direction, rain, two feet high water currents will have problems.)

Here is the direct link to Clark's Omaha story: http://tr.im/lUw8 Thanks for sharing your troubles with us Clark and for discussing how you secure your tent. I have a very similar setup as yours: trimline, staybars, propanels, etc. I do attach my propanel legs to the staybar using a ball bungie but I am on the fence about securing the tops of the propanels to the tent. My thinking is...

We've used bungie cords to attach the propanels to the top and bottom of our tent. It anchored the walls and like Matt was thinking - gives it a little flexibility just in case. So far - we've been lucky. We haven't had the tent up in anything higher than about 20 mph winds and a few not too serious thunderstorms. I just hope I never have to find out how effective my weights and anchoring of thing are.

Boy, I'm really on the ball. It only took 16 days before I noticed these comments. Thanks ya'll.

Can anyone reccomend an HPLV spray system for spraying canvases? I'm selling enough canvases that it's time to look at an HPLV system rather than keeping with the spray cans we've been using. Thanks
Hi Patty. Did you mean HVLP? High Volume Low Pressure. I use an HVLP gravity fed spray gun I got for about $100 at Lowe's. It doesn't have a model # on it - but it is made by Kobalt. I have it hooked up to a 26 gallon air compressor I also got at Lowe's for $200 - $300. You'll need at least a 20 gallon air compressor - anything smaller and you will likely burn out the compressor.
- Matt Suess
Thanks. Yes I meant HVLP - I always get the initials wrong. High Pressure Low Volume would be a scary concept :-) Bill and I will probably head out to Lowe's this weekend and see what we can find. He's like to get the new system in place before we have to order more cans.

An alternative is using a roller with a product like Breathing Color's Glamour II.
- James W. Parker
Have you had success using a roller? I tried for a couple months - never was pleased with quality on pieces larger than 16x24.

Am I the only one? Loving my time off the cirucit but ... antsy for another show. The art fair artist life is addictive. Next fix, 4th of July Breckenridge.
I usually get like that as well. Right now I am enjoying time off before I head to CA for a weekend show late June, then 6 straight weeks of shows in CO!
- Matt Suess
Me too. What I miss most about shows is seeing all of my artist friends. Since I'm doing some major refocusing of my work this year I've cut way back on shows. So I really look forward to each one. Next one is mid-June. And I try to get lots of other work done between shows. Right now, I'm working on my new website - hope to launch it in the next week or so
- Patty Hankins
I do miss the circuit when I am not on it. Now I am in the middle of the season. I am headed to my fifth of seven shows in a row. I am a bit tired but love seeing the artists and being around others who think like I do and understand what kind of life we have.

Welcome to the new Art Festival Artists group. All topics regarding juried art festivals are open for discussion. This is here to help everyone doing shows - from full-timers like myself to part-timers and those just starting out. Show promoters are also welcome!
A link to an interesting profile of Amy Amdur (Port Clinton, etc.) featured in Crain's Chicago Business. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin... a well rounded view of the art fair business from many points of view. Pointed to this article by artfairinsiders.com. Thanks Connie!
I've heard good things about Amy Amdur's shows. So far I've only done shows on the East Coast so haven't had a chance to see any of her shows in person
