Pangea Day: Pale Blue Dot
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam." Check out this short, but incredibly beautiful video. - Tina Su

THE AGE OF COMMODIFIED INTELLIGENCE | More Intelligent Life
Higher education and advanced degrees these days are more readily pursued as status symbols. We are not growing more intelligent, only more obsessed with its outward markers. We've become so reliant on checklists of accomplishment that we've lost our ability to make independent judgments. We no longer pursue passions or interests without quantifiable reward. - Tina Su

The Single Secret to Making 2009 Your Best Year Ever | Zen Habits
All you need is the present moment: spend time with a loved one, talk with a friend, watch a funny movie, go swimming in refreshing water, smell fresh baked bread, go for a walk or a run, curl up with a good book, cuddle on a rainy day, give and receive a hug. It's true -- this is the only thing you need to know: Stop waiting for happiness. Happiness is right here, right now. - Tina Su

Times Can Be Unbelievably Harsh. It's relatively easy to adapt to small changes, mustering internal bravado or getting help. But what about when the rug is pulled out from under you, when the very ground shifts ... when your entire identity is destroyed? "Even if I lose all those things that I thought were me - the material stuff and even precious relationships - I will still have my breath. I will still have these two arms swinging along. I will still have my wonder at this beauty around me. I can take refuge in the process of life that reawakens each delightful dawn. And I trust that I am a part of the dynamic whole." Now, someone could have told me this but it wouldn't have helped. I had to have the experience. By learning how to center myself and feel a pure indestructible core of being, I got through the long dark time ahead. We all "survived" but, more importantly, we "thrived" as we grew from these challenges. May we all know who we truly are. Words by Dr. Kathy Doner Photo by... - Tina Su

How to Achieve Anything | ThinkSimpleNow.com
Is there a goal you want to accomplish, but just cannot find the time to start it? It might be something trivial like, to reduce the amount of TV watching, or time spent browsing the Internet. It might be, to become an early riser, or to quit drinking alcohol, or to start a home business. Whatever it is, what is keeping you where you are instead of reaching your desired destination? Did you know that we will do more to avoid pain than we will to gain pleasure? Perhaps we feel that the pain of doing is greater than the pain of not doing? ... We are the ultimate author of our life story. Within each of us, we hold the power to change anything in our lives, and in doing so, experience more joy and fulfillment. Lasting change starts with a change in the way we think - a clear vision for our desired results, meaningful reasons why we must have them, and building momentum towards massive action to make our visions a reality. The Truth About Early Retirement Phenomenal article written by the gifted Philip Greenspun with humor and practical information that will get us thinking. From the page: "Ask a wage slave what he'd like to accomplish. Chances are the response will be something like "I'd start every day at the gym and work out for two hours until I was as buff as Brad Pitt. Then I'd practice the piano for three hours. I'd become fluent in Mandarin so that I could be prepared to understand the largest transformation of our time. I'd really learn how to handle a polo pony. I'd learn to fly a helicopter. I'd finish the screenplay that I've been writing and direct a production of it in HDTV." Why hasn't he accomplished all of those things? "Because I'm chained to this desk 50 hours per week at this horrible job. So he has no doubt that he would get all these things done if he didn't have to work? "Absolutely none. If I didn't have the job, I would be out there living the dream." Suppose that the guy cashes... - Tina Su

As the monitor resolution and internet speed is advancing, it seems like more and more designers use over-sized photo or illustrated image as the website's background. Large background image can create the stunning visual effect, especially for high resolution monitors. It can also add more life to your site design compared to the traditional tiled background graphic. Here is a collection of 80 websites that used large image as the site background (must-see, you won't be disappointed). - Tina Su

"Despite the social illusion that we can have it all, we only have a limited amount of energy and time. Even if we think we can achieve it all during our heightened state of enthusiasm and inspiration, when reality hits, we'll find that striving to achieve it all at once will result in exhaustion and disconnection with our inner selves." - Tina Su
