Sometimes greed really does screw you over. I bet there are a good number of scientists who oppose GMOs not because they're going to cause some horrible mutant apocalypse, but because Monsanto has ensured that any farmer who uses them will always be dependent on Monsanto, and because patenting DNA is terrible for science.
