Yeah, it's been pretty useless for me. It crashes consistently. I still have it installed but don't use it. I'll try it again when it gets updated.

I bought Tweetie when it came out and I still like it - both on the iPhone and the MacBook. Haven't been tempted to switch.
- Brian Rendel
Tweetie is easily the best Twitter client for the iPhone.

Is it fair to do the comparison now when there are so many continuing problems with Twitter? Or is this a trial you've been doing a for a while, Robert?

"Sarcasm in writing isn't easy to convey as the writer intends but I think you managed to do it and make your point. At least it made me laugh this morning. Thank you Chris."

John Dvorak in 2008: "Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone. Company risks its reputation in competitive business" (via @DaringFireball) - http://www.marketwatch.com/m...
Dvorak's article is weird. He makes the statement but gives no thoughts on where this competition is going to come from. Looking forward from here Apple are well set to be the market leader in smartphones. Strangeness in the Dvorak brain
- Mel Buckpitt
hmm, nice forecast. He missed the target on that one huh. Obviously wasn't considering people were willing to change how they use their phone.
- Alistair (alpinefolk)
I wonder if he thought in 1984 that Apple should quit making computers.
- Brian Rendel
If the statement was from early 2008, before the app store, I can see why the point would make sense at the time. The iPhone would be behind it's competiton if limited to the simple webapps originally available.
- Matt Young
It was from 2007, and IMHO it's still too early to call. Apple's share of the phone market worldwide is only 1.1%, which means they are a tiny player. I think he'll be wrong in the long run, but it's not wrong yet.
- Ian Betteridge
You know how he works. He wants people to talk about the topic (and him, of course). And even after more than 2 years it works as expected...
- Holger Eilhard
Btw, I hate John G's recent habit of calling people out like this. Being wrong is part of the pundit's territory - and lord knows, DF has published a few howlers. It's just cheap linkbait, and I expect better from a smart guy like John G.
- Ian Betteridge
I've had this argument recently. The iPhone is now riding the success of a good browsing environment and a good app store. Of those two, the greater feature that will continue their success is the app store. Apple has created an easy and convenient way to purchase and sell mobile applications. From the seller's side it has become a killer. Apps on the iPhone dwarf sale on other...

@Holger, well, exactly. John D's modus operandi is to provoke a response. I'm not a fan :)
- Ian Betteridge
I'm commenting with my new iPhone. I couln't do this before! He's wrong! This is the phone which all others are compared. They will have to start innovating quicker, but they're leading while everyone else is trying to catch up. If they really want to see their stock price take a dive, they could follow his advice.
- Michael Fidler
You're supposed to go the opposite direction when you read Dvorak. That's his shtick. Going back and finding articles where Dvorak was "wrong" is easier than golf when you're Tiger Woods and you're playing against a baby.
- Matthew DeVries
He's like the Lenny Bruce of tech journalism.

Tried that a few times. Seemed to work for one nap, but then it's back to racing fan sounds and refuses to awaken, requiring a forced shut-down.

"For a moment I thought I was reading about me. I, too, prefer web to phone, wrote tons I chose not to publish in the past few months, have been reconnecting on FB with distant friends, etc. Social media is a more elegant means of intermittently tending to valued but distant relationships. For one thing social media renders unnecessary answering the "so what's new" question non-web friends are fond of asking when they finally get us on the phone after months or years."

Criminalization of persons with extremely distorted thinking associated with chronic and severely debilitating mental illness is as ineffective at reducing crime as it is barbaric. Yet, we continue to throw people like this into the darkness of an system designed to inflict punishment. Society imagines these folks intentionally do bad things and are bad people. But, many neither are bad nor do bad things with a rational mind. If dangerous they should be secured but they do not deserve torture or neglect.

Skip the story if you want but also contained is an instruction manual on how any authority can make most people do real bad things. Stuff you should know but may not want to know.

Switch it off? ;-) - Seriously, that's one of the two major problems which stopped me getting one. That and the r cost versus what you get for the money.

I just ordered two RichardSolo 1800's. Thanks Chris for the tip.
