There was research done at Brown University where there was newly understood activity of a protein complex that, like a genetic power tool, gives enzymes on the X-chromosome an extra boost to increase gene expression. The process is described in the March 2, 2011, issue of the journal Nature.

This week has been hectic but I feel better after handing in my practical book. I still need to do a lot of work on my microbiology essay though so I might come in this weekend. I am looking forward to next week when our timetables are lighter and I dont have to worry about the essay. I still have to do alot of presentations though.

This week has gone really fast,I have enjoyed most of it though especially the practicals I think this semesters modules are more interesting than last semester. However I am dissapointed that I didnt go to the careers talk it sounded very useful. I still havent finished the excell work for BS1011 so I must do that.

My week has been good so far, I really enjoyed the practicals so far especially the microbiology practical. I liked the fact we were looking at live bacteria under the microscope. I think thay both the microbiology practical and lectures have really taught me how science is applied in the real world and it seems that there are lots of different careers to go into by having a microbiology degree.

I thought yesterdays lecture on biochemistry was really nice.
Really enjoyed the lecture on genetic fingerprinting i thought it was very informative but at the same time fun.

well for people like myself... who haven't done a-level chemistry... every chemistry lecture brings me more and more new information, for some it's a way to refresh their a-level knowledge... for me its a way to catch up with everyone else =) i'm glad this chemistry module is in place.
