"Regardless of whether 24fps it looks better to people due to conditioning or because there's actually a psychological reason, the bottom line is: American film and TV audiences prefer 24p. So it's not going away anytime soon. Additionally, I have heard compelling arguments as to why we prefer lower frame rates, such as this: "With regards to 24fps vs 30fps (or 60fields per second), I think that since 24 frames per second requires more "imagination" from your brain to "fill in the gaps", it seems more dreamy, or more flowing if you will. 30fps also seems to be able to achieve this somewhat. Programs that run at 60i like television newscasts leave little to nothing for your brain to fill in. Therefore it seems cold, real, and cheap." It's similar to the arguments I have heard that "Radio is the most visual medium" or "Black and white films require you to pay more attention than color ones" -- because your brain is given less information, so your brain subconsciously fills in the gaps to..."

"As someone who works in the TV and film industry, I can tell you exactly why: 24fps looks way better than 30fps....and the higher the fps you go, the more "smooth" and TV-like it looks...meaning that it looks less "filmic." I work on a TV show now that shoots in 24 progressive digital video, even though our cameras can shoot 120 frames per second easily. We shoot in 24p because it just looks better. There's something about that slight, almost imperceptible flicker that makes 24fps film images look more grand and epic than something shot at higher fps."

"I routinely stayed in hostels and guesthouses in China for 20 yuan per night ($3), and once stayed in a place in rural Sichuan for just 5 yuan (73 cents). The cheapest place I've ever stayed was in Nepal, along the Annapurna Circuit, for 30 Nepalese rupees for a guesthouse room (less than 40 cents)."

"I met the guy who made this...he went to film school Ithaca College (same place I went) and he came and did a screening and Q&A session a few years ago. It's a pretty entertaining movie, mostly because Brian is a really likeable guy that you can't help but root for. The budget for this was also essentially $0...it's always inspiring to see no money documentaries like this get distribution."

"Sure... what about rural counties that don't have a large enough population to support this type of infrastructure on their own? Do we force them to go bankrupt until all of their people are forced to move to bigger counties? I don't think that's what we need."

"Sure, but you don't think it's a bit odd that "I'm Yours" is the longest running song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, when there have been huge mega-hits like "Billie Jean" or "Bohemian Rhapsody" that have charted at #1 for weeks and weeks? It's interesting that a relatively obscure song like this has such legs."

peteberg on Google has already scanned 10 million books in its bid to digitise the contents of the world's major libraries, but a copyright battle now threatens the project, with Amazon and Microsoft joining authors and publishers opposed to the scheme. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I am completely in favor of Google digitizing the world's books. But I am NOT in favor of Google having exclusive rights to digitize books. If the settlement with the authors does indeed grant Google some sort of monopoly / exclusivity deal, that is a huge mistake. I say open up digital book scanning to any company or government agency that wants to do it...set a certain level of royalties for the authors...and then let the markets sort out the price."
