"Wow. Oprah has meant a lot for me and my family. I can remember getting phone calls from my mother (who had no Internet access at the time) ordering me to "Go to oprah.com and tell me what it says under...." I would get these calls multiple times per month and finally just bought my mother a computer! I also have strong memories of a series she did on racism during the 90s. She committed one show per month to the topic, and I was impressed. Her ability to occasionally delve into the truly substantive and often controversial was owed to the trust she had established with millions of white, middle american women. She reminds me of what Cosby was able to do with many episodes of his show. I actually went with my mother to sit in the audience at an Oprah show in the early 2000s, and it was one of the happiest days of my mother's life!
