If it's not already out there, somebody should start a site called LOLBacon. They would make a mint. (Something better than this: http://lolbacon.ytmnd.com/)

Congratulations Robert! Sending best wishes to you and your family.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And blessings upon you and your family!!

Congratulations to you and Maryam. You have been truly blessed and your new son is gorgeous. Such a special time for you all. All the best. I can't wait to see pics of Patrick and Milan with Ryan. :)

I didnt really want to add everyone i know on friendfeed to my facebook, i like to keep them seperate as much as i can. but you know what, fuck it http://www.facebook.com/simon... add a note saying you;re from friendfeed if you add me, then i can group everyone up :)
- Simon Wicks
Thanks, Simon. I've not started going through these yet. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I'm only going to add the people i actually talk to on here. I have a lot less people on my follow list than you, so its a bit easier for me :)
- Simon Wicks
Remember, guys. According to FB, you're only allowed 5000 friends. Spend them wisely.
- James Myatt
As if we weren't before? Were they really that many people here who didn't also have a FB account, even if they didn't list it in their profile? I've been with FB since 2004
- LANjackal
Well, with this news it is pushing me to start using my real name for web services and to kill (or at least slowly stop using) the tomit persona that I have used for many years. Find me here... http://www.facebook.com/ronaldb...
- tomit
FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.
- Ethan
I'm on Facebook, but I don't have a name in my profile URL (yet; I'm still new...). But if you want it, it's http://www.facebook.com/profile... -- if you friend me, tell me you're from FF.
- Dennis Jernberg
I don't freaking have one because I never wanted to sign up for Facebook. :P Now I find out that through no fault of my own I'm technically a Facebook user? GAH.
- Cheryl Jones
http://facebook.com/alex.covic - I will friend everybody - for those of you concerned with friend/family + privacy = you can create lists (just like ff-groups) to keep FF-users in a different corner;-).
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
I do not use it much LOL I just post to it from other sites so to fill up my friends stream, I do get messages and some status in text. Anyone who really wants to add me, use the facebook link on my profile. :o)
- David Gross
www.facebook.com/drodzand you won't see much since I got the privacy settings on max in Facebook. Just another reason why I think Facebook is completely different from friendfeed. I hope they keep friendfeed running because I use both services in diametrically diverse ways.
- David Rodriguez
http://www.facebook.com/kimbers... (I can remember if I commented on this already. I don't see "You" on the list, but I'm tired. So, hopefully, I didn't. If I did, oh well.
- Kimber Scott
Thanks Rob, I had forgotten my username for I always used my email address to login - I found there is a settings > username > change thing that lets you change your username once and then you get a facebook.com/username url!
- TrafficBug
I am thinking about just using my Public Page more. Keep my regular profile for family and coworker data. Follow me here if you want more of the type of posts I do here of Friendfeed. http://www.facebook.com/pages...

I love that Bret, Paul, and Kevin checked in. They probably are looking at their screens and asking "what do we do now?" how about ship some new features before Facebook overlords take you off to do bigger things?
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
I feel sorry for all you addicts. My use of it is purely social.
- Bruce Lewis
I do like FF and use it almost every day. Wouldn't it be great if FB either left it alone so we can continue to use it as "professionals," or somehow incorporate it into a more "mature" version of FB that didn't have all the annoying, time-wasting apps, games, etc. I'd much prefer a totally customizable FF "wall."
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I think FFundercats HO!!!!! would have worked but I'm here anyways.
- Jimminy
Actively fighting addiction to anything on a daily basis, but I'm still a FriendFeed fan! (I'd have been here sooner but I've been staring at Phoebe Cates pics for longer than I realized.)
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Thank you Robert Scoble to be here. :) BTW is this looks interesting for FF replacement? : http://streamy.com/ ? May be... I'll try it to see. :)
- Claude LaFrenière
Why should I? Whats in it for me? You doing some sort of survey of people to send out the police to do a "Safety Check" on when the site is shutdown?
- CW™
here. anecdote: a friend of mine just signed up for FF this evening. apparently the FriendFeed hype of the last 24 hours pushed him over the top. leaves me wondering whether FF has actually gained users today?it would be a crafty way of marketing the service. I'll wake up tomorrow to discover that there was a problem with the paperwork and the FriendFeed team have had a change of heart.

Count me in even though I was just starting to get hooked. I guess it's time to find a rehab and get all sobered up until the next relapse with some other new addiction. Isn't life grand?

++Jay. I was going to do the same thing yesterday but I didn't want to pay the money.
- David Cook
David -- this was a $9.95 session but you can get them for $7.95 and there are also 25% off coupons if you do online check-in prior to your Delta flight. That's an incentive for folks to use that service and offload kiosk use at the terminals. Very savvy marketing by the folks at GoGo and Delta combined.
- Jay Cuthrell
well, it's 12:12 a.m. and I'm perusing FF from my iPhone via BuddyFeed before turning in. so yeah, I guess I count. "Here!" (raises hand)
- Don Faulkner
from BuddyFeed
I recommend FF to some of my clients, and there are some companies and nonprofits with presences here—not like Twitter, but I'll be curious how that will be affected when FB takes over more. Most have FB fan pages, groups and/or causes, too.
- Cathryn Hrudicka
Yeah, me too. I just saw the request to have a comment link at the bottom of the comments from one of your friends just yesterday and here it is. I'd say they are listening. Thanks FF.

Hi, I'm Bette... I don't know if I'm an addict, but I can't stay away... I keep checking, just to see if something's new... and I cry if I get no responses to a post. Is that addictive behavior? :D
- Bette Cooper
Yup, I have blocked all the impersonators now. You will still see them, but I don't see them and they no longer can comment on any of my items.
- Robert Scoble
@scobleizer As far as I can see you have blocked not only the impersonators (who renamed themselves back the moment they found out you have a problem with this) but most of the folks who chatted there.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@meatreach yes, see next thread. Scobble becomes anti-Russian.
- Never Impersonate You
Maxatma: well, that's just too bad. I speak English. Sorry. People who don't speak English really don't have any business commenting on one of my items, except in rare cases.
- Robert Scoble
Why you, Robert Scoble, don't block users from Spain or Italy? China or arabic countries? Those users that comments on non-English languages?
- Never Impersonate You
@Robert, in fact they do speak English. But they also do make fun of Friendfeed and everything that's going on there. You can block them or take part in this fun. ;)
- Махатма Бугоганди
I prefer FF over twitter and facebook, but all my friends are on twitter and/or facebook. Maybe facebook will get it right this time now that it has acquired FF. If they simplify it a bit more without removing functionality. Then I would spend a bit more time on FB. Lets hope all goes well with the merger. If not I'm jumping ship and going over to Google Wave. oh wait, I'm going to go with Google Wave regardless! ;-)
- Captain Jack

@scobleizer i can speak english and i beg you to remove bann from all russian friendfeeders, because we are all from it-community, working in internet companies and we came with peace, you asked for feedback from friendfeed addicts — we show you how really it is being frf addicts, we change names, we chat, we making things that are not serious. Why so serious? Unlock people, they are not bots, they just playing the game of real addicts and have fun. Common.

@robert yes they (we will) stay here, I think tat the migration process will take time and after reading @Paul Bucheit, I think that what we all are trying to get even if we don't say it explicitly is to preserve a kind of intimacy (beeing a part of the Huge faceBook community) don't mean that FF community will preserve their intimacy, why should a community be a plan one, (let imagine a community as a set of sub-community) that all.
- abdellah
Wow!! So many likes and comments; is it a record Rob?
- Er-fun
@scobleizer thank you, for understanding. be cool, guys we just want have fun here a little. Take care.
- ideali
@Robert RE "I have enough noise in my life. I don't need to have more" - isn't it a lot of noise having 26K subscriptions and 46K subscribers on your frf account? I'm kind of surprised - you create a community that large around yourself, yet when you see a new and unusual activity you just block it right away.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@Robert, patience? Who's talking about patience? It's about curiosity, not patience. When something strange and unusual happens around you, you can either try to stop it or try to see what it can develop into. You choose to stop - and it stopped. Well, not stopped - just moved to some other place. And do you really know what it was and what it was about to bring you?
- Махатма Бугоганди
I'm here all the way from South Africa! I dig this service and I'm not quite ready to give it up. Regardless of the news about the acquisition, this remains an awesome service.

I don't know how I rate my addiction relative to others, but I shared Hitler's reaction upon hearing the acquisition news (despite happiness for Paul and Bret)

I'm sure this is part of Scoble's plot to poll all the people who really read his posts, and unfollow the rest. So I raise my hand.
- Shivanand Velmurugan
Just a wannabe. Not an addict (yet).
- Carole Hicks
It might also be a way for me to filter down my "following" count (diff (my followers, scoble)) are the only people I really need to follow. Those that scoble follows, I can safely unfollow and use Scoble as my social media filter :)
- Shivanand Velmurugan
pardon the arrogance but it really sucks this great forum of sharing will turn into a myspace humdrum. Now I have to find another SM where first adopters and well informed techies won't haft to compete with general "noise"

Well, here's a comment I can later delete and rob the owner of 1500!
- Matthew DeVries
I just mention the 1500 mark since it was such an iconic query to see... that and the 500 Likes club of FF posts. It's pretty exclusive stuff... but it's also sobering to note that the subject matter required to get to these levels isn't always a uniform mix of cares/concerns.
- Jay Cuthrell
When I heard the FaceBook news, I tried to quit FriendFeed and I couldn't... I'M HOOKED

Actually, I lied. I am not a die-hard friendfeed fan. I desperately want to be but have just not been able to get into a good "feeding" rhythm. Maybe I need to add some more friends

I don't need to be addict. I'm just here, everyday, absorbing so many geeky info :D There's no place like FF

I'm still with ya, Robert. Whatever FB paid for FF, it wasn't enough!
- Donald C. Lindsay
New here, but learning. Tips for best use?
- Barbara Langham
@bdlangam From my perspective the #1 tip in this category is: Explore and define "best use" for yourself. Despite potential "finishing" impression of some productive consolidations in this collective-collaborative cognition space, the emergent #cognosphere is still WAY too nascent to assert anything other than initial impressions. March to the beat of your own drum; build your own...

BTW, no user RSS feeds? No site RSS feeds? WTF, I'm shocked. Even Hulu generates an RSS feed for each user's activity. I'm disappointed, looks like the site launched half baked IMO. Don't see myself being there much.

there are some weird oddities with things not appearing on top of other things (hellooooo, widget) and no visual indication of a follow going through, but overall, a pretty slick site, so far.
- Chieze Okoye
Why, Zee why? Now I own 1 gadget but not really, and tried to add my Asus 1008HA to the db.. aaaaaargh! Messy! (edit: HTC Dream != Android dev phone 1)
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
What the heck is up with the indignation? The site is about sharing info about your gadgets and gadgets that you might want. If you can't afford more than the iPhone, who cares? Go to the forums, discussions etc and talk about your iPhone, learn tips and tricks, review stuff, etc. That's the point of it. It's all about easing that type of interaction. Edit: oh wait, I might have missed the joke. I can't tell. I hate the internet, sometimes.
- Chieze Okoye
'Stay classy, Fox News guests: "The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States." WHAT?! Come again?' - http://origin.reddit.com/r...
The reddit comments are kind of amusing: "I'm really really hesitant to blame another person's political views on psychological problems, but that's the only conclusion I can reach with these guys. When you've come to the point where you are actually saying "I want people to die, so that I can be proved right that if we don't do something, people will die" this is now a mental illness....

- Paul Buchheit
Anytime someone uses the phrase, "Stay classy", I automatically have to like it. It's like in my biology.
- Derrick
Somewhat more seriously, I think there are some people who believe in the necessity of perpetual war, and for those people an attack on the US (such as a city getting nuked) would obviously be a good thing. I remember at the end of the cold war these same people were fretting about the need for a new enemy. Luckily for them, they found/created one.
- Paul Buchheit
Holy crap. That guy's talking out of his ass!
- Joey Gibson
A vulnerable country > the country they want. (That's even if I accepted that the country would be less vulnerable under them, which I don't)
- Matthew DeVries
Wow....I thought the democrats were the ones who want the turrists to win.
- EricaJoy
'9/11 ended up making this country safer then ever. The only way to make it more safe would be to undergo another attack.' That's basically what he's saying, right?
- Kevin Fox
"...an attack on the US (such as a city getting nuked) would obviously be a good thing." Can we pick the city?
- Chris Sparno
Yeah, how are we ever going to get rid of all these pesky freedoms if we don't have a big war? It's like these guys thought 1984 was an instruction manual.
- Paul Buchheit
@Paul, We have always been at war with East Asia. || We have always been at war with Eurasia. (Orwell, 1984)
- Joey Gibson
Being liberal is unpatriotic? Compared to that I'm a freaking nationalist!
- Heather
the scary thing, really, is not that someone would say this in public, or that Glenn Beck found someone to say crazy things on his show, but that the person saying it is *Michael Scheuer,* who was chief of the bin Laden desk at the CIA. he is a best-selling author, and currently a news analyst for CBS News. he's somebody who has the ear of government officials and the media. he is not just some loon Beck picked off the street, and that is cause for concern.
- Karim
My favorite reddit comment: "I was just stunned. I asked, "You hope Americans die by the thousands so that you can prove to me that we need FISA-less searches of everyone???" He answered with a straight face, "Yes". I tried to explain to him how he and Osama bin Laden had reached a point of consensus in wishing the United States harm, but he would have none of it. "It's all for the greater good of America!", was all he said."
- Gabe
one hopes Scheuer will claim he "misspoke" and does not really wish harm. or, it could be that he is Cap'n Ahab and bin Laden is his Great White Whale, and the failed pursuit is driving him crazy. and you thought "war is peace" was satire...
- Karim
I am going to have to add, that while Glenn Beck is a loony, treasonous sellout, Michael Scheuer is most definitely not some off-the-deep-end right wing, Fox shill. That guy is 100% legit and knows what he is talking about. I thhink that clip might be taken slightly out of context, but if Scheuer is concerned, so am I. But I already know too much about the shortcomings of our Federal Government...
- JonathanJoseph
@Kevin. ..9/11, per irrefutable scientific evidence, was an inside job, a controlled demolition. ..is there somebody here who still doesn't see this? ..... its the biggest story of our time .. itl bring very grave consequences for the country ..and yes, another war , attack would keep the bad empire of war within America in power, unchallenged, undiscovered, unremoved, untoppled and uncollapsed - its the old thing, when in trouble, bring on war .............. http://ae911truth.org
- Petr Buben
The only chance we have as a country is for blowhards to stop starting wars with other countries so that we can pretend that we don't have problems of our own.

- Petr Buben
9/11 was an inside job? Yea, right, and we all know steel doesn't melt, right ROSIE?? What ba bunch of clowns, ha, ha, ha!
- Don Smith
Stay classy? Right. It's REALLY showing a lot of class when you can't make a point without dropping the "F" word ... really classy, Buchheit!
- Don Smith
I didn't know that Fox was now the "F" word.
- Gabe
Sorry Paul, I should have credited your quote to Reddit! I apologize for that.
- Don Smith
Leo, just curious ... why do you think Rush and Glen are "treasonous"? I like Rush, but Glen IS sorta "out there" sometimes. I stopped listening to and watching him quite a while ago. I don't, however, see how either could be considered treasonous. Just sayin' ...
- Don Smith
Don, I don't know if you're trolling... but, if my friends wants me to die so that our enemy cannot kill me, I think my friend clearly betrays me.
- Jérôme Flipo
"They are not saying they want it to happen"? I quote Michael: "the only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama Bin Laden to detonate (...)". I'm not a native English speaker, but come on! Also, can you guys keep the discussion respectful?

- Kim Landwehr
Once again He was saying Osama would be stupid to do it right now. Our elected class is doing a good job destroying the USA and if he attacked us now we would be united as one. We would then stand up to the elected class and tell no more. Again I ask you to all crawl out of your holes and wake up. Its common sense people.
- Ryan Ellerbe
Ryan: Why is Osama our only chance? Why can't the CIA do it like they did on 9/11?
- Gabe
LOL the last time they attacked we galvanized around the idiots and gave them cart blanche, thus if they attacked again, it would solidify us around our leaders again. LOL I love people who observe data and conclude that if the same thing happened again, the exact opposite would happen. LOL LOL LOL LOL Do you forget the Patriot Act? Wireless Wiretapping? It's because we gave a bunch of dipshits a blank check cause we were skeered.
- Matthew DeVries
HAHAHA under your logic, we would have impeached Bush and Cheney right after 9/11
- Matthew DeVries
WHHHAAAAAAAA???!!! That is sooo stoooopid I can't believe we have idiots like this in US ...augh!!
- Susan Beebe
Jérôme: I never said I agreed or disagreed with Scheuer. The only things I've disagreed with are that Beck and Rush are "treasonous" talk show hosts and that 9/11 was an "inside job." The only other point I've even hinted at is that anyone who has to resort to profanity to make a point is just showing their own ignorance and immorality -- and the pattern here is that they all seem to be liberals. If we can't disagree without cursing and calling each other names, we're definitely in a world of hurt, folks!

Newsmax, a leading neoconservative propaganda outlet, has been seeding and cultivating the notion for several years now that Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda are going to detonate a nuclear weapon on American soil. Think about it. Newsmax has also been in the forefront in exploiting 9/11 to push forward the neoconservative agenda. Two words: watch out.
- Sean McBride
This kind of thing gets me very worried. VERY. What is wrong with people?
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
no, Im not ...we don't know who did it - The Biggest Story of The Century - .... we don't know who did it yet, but we know for fact that it was an explosives aided controlled demolition

Petr, why explosives? I know that some explosives were detonated at/near the base. But I believe the speed of disintegration and the absence of a realistic remnant pile obviously imply something other than just explosives.

Anyone who thinks it was kerosene fuel (jet fuel) from a "commercial plane entered the building" on a top floor, really has to "look closer." Ah sorry Nir, missed that comment. I saved them in the order i wanted them so i knew which one to go first, then uploaded each one in order starting with 1. I had to do a few tests to get the width right as it seems to depend on the picture width as to how many it posts on one line.
- Simon Wicks
Christopher, My cells were 150x100 if thats any help. You can try with other sizes like 75x75 and get 7 across, same as when Flickr imports.
- Simon Wicks
awesome. got this from that flickr set right? looks great
- Alfredo
Alfredo, nope. I was inspired by this post by a friend http://friendfeed.com/al86sha... even though the pictures aren't joined. Just had the idea. I only remembered about that Flickr one after doing it. :)

According to MacDailyNews these instructions work better. ----- by gointoscott June 16, 2009 9:01 PM PDT Well I tried this and low and behold it worked! You do not have to downgrade itunes. this is what you do: 1. You also need to download the carrier settings file listed above and save it somewhere ( I chose desktop) 2. then copy this: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE 3. then open terminal on a mac that you sync itunes with. then paste the copied info into terminal and hit enter. 4. once you have this then you just sync your iphone, then after it says ok to disconnect, then hold options and click restore. 5. It will then ask you to chose what file to restore. search and go to where you saved the att carrier file it is called (att_us.ipcc) it will NOT be grayed out if you run that terminal command. If by chance it is grayed out, run the command again, then go to options restore and it will then be available to click on. 6. Chose the file and restore. It will...

I appreciated the insight of Henry Blodgett's article that contended that the TV system is where newspapers were 5 years ago. TV isn't as vulnerable as newspapers because they aren't relying on a monopoly on something like classifieds that aren't necessarily tied to the media. That have to be attacked on their strength, delivering eyeballs to advertisers. Advertising becomes where TV is vulnerable because it can't deliver measured results like the web does.
- JR Holmes
There are two scarcities that can't be automated away: talent and novel ideas. The medium only matters given form and the constraints it sets. As exemplified by Ernie Kovacs, talent finds new ideas within the constrains of the forms and that is innovation worth watching. TCB, kids. TCB.

reports are coming in from midtown manhattan that an event location has ambulances on the way - it appears that some attendees at a conference have passed out due to "lack of twt" - we believe the twt is actually twitter and that they couldnt send messages to the twitter network. i am en route to the scene and will have word once i arrive - note...
Robert - the shakes are the first sign - please get those people directly into Facebook.. it won't fix the shaking but will slow the effects. They could also go to the daily "twitter is down" posts by parislemon - that too will help a little. Overall there is no cure. oh wait there is :)

"these people are the type who just push the button (like on lost) without knowing what happens if they dont." <---- I'm nominating this for a ffebby award, best analogy in a comment category.

It is back up. So this should revive the attendees :)

Of all the tweets one could ever post, this is by far the most beautiful. Thank you for sharing the moment with us so we could celebrate life with you. Congratulations!

HOO-RAY!!!! Congratulations, Tamar. :)

I will be there in September again. I can't wait to see your baby! And Milan needs more friends. And Scobleizer3.0 needs more mentors! :-) Enjoy every day, it goes so fast!
- Robert Scoble
I don't know you, Tamar, but you still get a mazel tov! (You're on my FF via other folks I follow.) Much health & happiness to you & your family.....
- Alan Mairson
now I ved seen everything on Twitter!

Awesome congrats! I like how you let us know that you, baby AND daddy are doin OK. We know how daddys have a hard time sometimes! LOL jk Congrats to all!
- Manny
CONGRATULATIONS! Yay to the new family!
- Anna Lynn M.
Robert, you're bringing Milan to NYC in October? Nice. :)
- Tamar Weinberg
How did that rumor start? Nope, no Milan to NYC.
- Robert Scoble
oh, no play dates then as I probably won't be traveling to anywhere in a long time!
- Tamar Weinberg
Hey Tamar your baby is "liked" by over 220 people and it's just a few days into this world, not too shabby.
- Steve C
Baby boy is resting on mommy's chest as she leans back on a chair updating her FriendFeed. As for the other questions... he doesn't have a name yet. His Bris will be Thursday and we'll name him during the ceremony. The only video the hubby took was me calling his great grandma while the doctor was yelling at me to put my phone down (no, I couldn't actually tweet that I was pushing. I did it as soon as I could!) ;) Weight: 5lb 14oz at birth.
- Tamar Weinberg
Now, lets see this dog do that with a SUV which is what any good suspect is going to take.
- Wizetux
Holy cow....Or should I say, holy canine.
- Nurse Katie
Wizetux: I think the word "suspect" went away as soon as he fired off his gun. Haha. I bet the description "clean underwear" went away as soon as he saw that dog clear the car roof.
- d.l.martin
this is so crazy! i cant believe the dog jumps over the car like that! i just retweeted this.
- Jason Pollock
The cops came around the bowling alley after all the customers left and ended up doing a training exercise with the dog. Someone put on a sleeve. It was awesome!
- Rodfather
Oops !!! are you sure that is dog ??? :)))
- CRASH3R
That's incredible. Not one iota of hesitation.
- Rick Cogley
training exercise but that dog would do the same in real - and a few bites are better than a bullet even for the perpetrator.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Thanks all! I'm so excited about it. People have a perception about MS but they have been nothing but accessable, supportive and responsive to any of our needs. Much more so than other web series creators working with standard entertainment companies. We're excited to be doing the show again (and paying people again, woot! :) )
- Felicia
So excited! You ever need volunteer gaffers/gofers/whatevers, give a holler!
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
You get the copyrights for the show. You can to pay people. We can watch it for free. Not region locked. And subtitles! I <3 MS! =P
- Dani Figueiredo
A big vote of confidence! I hope you were able to keep your ownership and distribution deal and able to get more $$. You deserve all the good karma from this.
- David Monroe
I'm SO HAPPY! :) Can't wait for Season 3.. and my Season 2 DVD. :)

"Soon after a British newspaper published a photo of what appeared to be Phelps smoking marijuana, Kellogg's announced it would not renew the swimmer's endorsement contract - never mind the eight gold medals he won at the Beijing Olympics. Apparently, that left only one problem: what to do with the boxes of Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes bearing Phelps' toothy grin. The answer seemed pretty clear two weeks ago when the local Food Bank took delivery of nearly 2 tons of the cereal. "So, though Kellogg's and their star spokesman hit a patch of rough water, San Francisco's hungry just got thrown a life preserver," Food Bank spokeswoman Gayle Keck wrote in an e-mail. The boxes flew off the shelves, but the food bank is keeping a few as souvenirs. Although it was considered a coup when the cereal company snapped up Phelps ahead of General Mills' popular Wheaties, Kellogg's was spooked in February when the picture appeared of Phelps puffing on a bong at a college party."

was it so that the content will still be treated in line with the privacy rules you had set? e.g. if I set a photo album to be visible to no-one, would they still be allowed to republish it?
- Davide D'Incau
@Davide, in the termination section : it says, the "Privacy practices" will survive the termination. I hope it means the "privacy settings".
- Olivier Castets
I removed all my info from Facebook about a year ago. I'm glad I did.
- Paul Grav
The tech geeks and privacy advocates will cry foul about this, and we are. Yet, the rest of the population, that is the majority of Facebook users won't care. And they shouldn't: the probability that this will become an issue for anyone is low. Life goes on.
- Nitesh Dhanjani
nitesh: how about you send me snaps of your family for me to do with as I wish - ? will you buy that ? no. why will " the majority of Facebook users " then ?
- atul abraham
from twhirl
@Atul. Because the majority of facebook users will not be confronted with a situation such as you describe.
- Paul Grav
@Olivier: That is what I was thinking too, but the legal texts are always hard to read for someone not practicing law ;-)
- Davide D'Incau
paul : you still dont get it, FB is going to take any image, text - whatever they please and do with it as they wish. if that doesnt strike you as very wrong, im sorry, you have no clue what you are taling about. FB was supposed to be social networking, they are now behaving like Stalin.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
and to address the point - it IS the majority who will be affected, FB can choose to " own " any and all content, as i see it the majority is already owned.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
@atul. Where have I stated, or even implied, that I believe what Facebook is doing is correct?
- Paul Grav
paul:you did not say that and i didnot assuem you did, but you said the majority wont be " confronted by a situation like .. " thats where your way wrong - it IS the majority - i have friends on FB who struggle to use the site, but they are there cos their friends are there and friends of their friends. they are going to be fed on.
- atul abraham
from twhirl
@atul. To be clear. I think that Facebook can write whatever it wants in its Facebook EULA. Personally, I think the EULA is unnecessarily nasty. Subsequently, I've chosen not to share my info with Facebook. Unless the media draws attention to the nasty parts of the EULA, most Facebook users will be oblivious to it and even if they do become aware of the problems, I doubt the majority of users will take the action that I've taken.
- Paul Grav

Very concerning and also not very public to all those Facebook users.. but then they have a loose understanding of copyright issues anyway
- Ian D. Nock
from twhirl
@atul. My point is that most users are not aware of the content of the EULA.
- Paul Grav
i hear you paul, and thats why you need to tell your friends who need to tell theirs and so on. facebook is the new dumb and NASTY.

I think the only photo I've ever posted to Facebook was one of a woman breastfeeding (goes to check if I've been censored there yet or not), Nope, looks like she's still there: http://www.facebook.com/home...
- Thomas Hawk
It isn't just content you post. Take a look at the definition of "Post", it includes content you may have elsewhere and link to in Facebook. Just posted my analysis to http://webtechlaw.com/what-fa... if you are interested.
- Paul Jacobson
from twhirl
@atul. I mostly ignore things that I don't like, don't agree with. Others can go inform themselves, no skin off my nose if they continue to use Facebook.
- Paul Grav
Just removed all the content I care about and won't be adding anymore
- Ace
I think people are making the EULA say more than it really does. There is another clause that limits what FB can do with the content - "each of (a) and (b) on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof".
- Brian Milby
Rather than interpret the Facebook ToS, or debate whether Facebook is trustworthy, here's a specific feature request that would seem to meet the privacy needs of users and the stated privacy philosophy of Facebook: Enhance the 'Delete This Photo' feature on Facebook by adding an optional checkbox [x] I own this photo, so please replace it with a placeholder saying 'this photo has been deleted' when anyone tries to look at it (e.g. in an Inbox Message, on a Wall Post, or as part of a third party application)
- Bob Hitching
Techcrunch's summary is that "It's complicated". However, the reality is that it really is not. Facebook can easily delete content upon request (and mark the content no longer available to someone else that sees this). For example, try viewing a deleted user on Flickr. The problem is Facebook does not seem to think that it has any incentive to do so. It's a fairly simple programmatic problem.

damn i missed this entire thread. i hate lack of bandwidth sometimes and having to use a mobile to access this site. hard to participate. maybe a blackberry client will come from Bret, Paul & Company :-)

On his first day in office, President Obama put former president Bush on notice. His administration just released an executive order that will make it difficult for Bush to shield his White House records--and those of former Vice President Dick Cheney--from public scrutiny by invoking the doctrine of executive privilege
- Chris Baskind
from Bookmarklet
This is actually a good policy in many ways. However, I wonder if there is a dispute over whether records should be released, if the default action will be to release first then retract if deemed necessary, or withhold until the AG and counsel determine it is proper to release.
- Kevin L
I think this is GREAT news. Kevin: Anything security sensitive would be redacted before they're released anyway.
- Trish R
show and prove. all this press is nice, but i'd like for it to actually happen
- Cee Bee
I think it's fantastic. Bush was unusually shielding of his and Cheney's papers. Obama is just rolling it back to the more usual levels of protection. (Now can we reinstate drawing & quartering as punishment for treason??)
- RudĩϐЯaЯïan
Wow, Jason. Bush Sr. had 2, one revoked later & Bush Jr had, um, 50+?
- Alix Whitmire
@Alix Bush was addicted those executive orders. :)
- Jason Shultz
from twhirl
President Obama needs to keep in mind, what he does to President Bush's records, future Presidents can do to his. And Obama has a record of keeping records and documents out of the public eye.
- ComicList
If President Obama really comes thru with his Open Government policy, there really won't be much hidden, save for those things that need to be for the sake of others privacy, or for national security.

Trust me. This will come back to bite him. I'm looking for the text of the EO now, but I'm pretty sure there's going to be some unintended consequences here.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Mark, I posted my response to your post on your blog. But bottomline I cannot imagine the President of the United States being restricted from email in 2009. Particular has he is not planning to use it as a means of conducting business but to stay in touch with friends and family.
- R. Ferguson
As far as the BlackBerry is concerned, it would be great if we could trust that all of his correspondents would honor a request not to email him anything that has even a minor relationship with his new job. However, someone always has to do something wrong, just like my users know they're supposed to call the Help Desk, but they always wait for me to show up in the hallway, call me directly, or email me. What's the solution at that point? I want him to keep his BB, but how can he be protected?
