The future of food: By 2050 there will be another 2.5 billion people on the planet. How to feed them? Science's answer: a diet of algae, insects and meat grown in a lab - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Right. Your situation seems to differ from mine in where I don't need to go out of the city often. Anyways, my initial comment was obviously too simple minded, thanks for your comments."

"For me, a car was a waste of money because I would use it maybe once or twice a month (for a big grocery load, or to visit family), and I was paying for a parking spot, insurance ($200+/month), and the depreciation of the car itself. Smarter shopping and the Go train solved those two "issues" for me Kudos to you I guess, but I really don't see the benefit of owning one. As you said, using a bike is also a great alternative to the TTC, which I do so myself almost exclusively in the summer. Also I guess it depends where you live near the Subway line. I live near St. Clair West and never go north of that, so the density makes it easy to even walk to most destinations once I get down to Bloor. I can't see the same benefits living near Sheppard, for example."

"I moved from a small town (Cambridge, ON) about 1.5 years ago, here's my answers to your questions in via my own experience: * As said, live near a subway line, or a streetcar line and you should generally be good. I personally live about 1.4km away from a subway (St. Clair West) but have two bus routes that get me to various stations in 5 minutes. Short bus routes that run frequent can be quite reliable if you need to compromise, but if you can find something within walking distance to the Subway, you're golden. * Rent can range. A basement/bachelor is easily under $1,000. I see a lot for about $800 even right by Subway stations along Bloor. Just walk/bike around a hood and find signs, call the people, and be quick. We lost out on a few places initially for being too slow on a response. * Employment seems to be very good here. If you're in technology, it's great. I know many engineers/construction workers who came from overseas and they were easily able to find jobs. Even bad..."

"It means one less bus on the route, which means that as soon as one is delayed, there is a larger potential for everything else to be delayed because there aren't as many buses to take care of the excess. Basically, it's more prone to a clusterfuck."

"I did the Spit a few weeks ago for the first time and although the trail in itself isn't too long (for a cyclist), it's a beautiful and amazingly calm part of the city. Definitely worth it"
