seriously, Mike Brown? you been coaching LBJ this whole time, and you're still trying to find out, in game 1 of an 82 game season, if he can carry you? quit coaching, son.

"The New Orleans Hornets have responded to their 3-6 start by making the first coaching change of the young NBA season, firing Byron Scott on Thursday, according to NBA coaching sources. Byron Scott Scott Sources said the Hornets made the decision to dismiss Scott following New Orleans' 124-104 loss in Phoenix on Wednesday night and will formally announce the move later Thursday."

"Two years ago, Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Morrissey wrote that Bulls first-round draft pick Joakim Noah(notes) would never become a productive NBA player. In fact, Morrissey was so certain the ex-Gator forward would be an NBA bust that he said he would slather his June 2007 column with salsa and eat it if Noah ever turned out to be a "useful" basketball player."

“When the officers went to place the handcuffs on Mr. Jones he did resist by moving his hand forward instead of behind his back. They were forced to take him to the ground to get better control of him and he did sustain some injuries to his face,” Wakefield said.

Dan Wetzel asks why Clipper owner Donald Sterling hasn't drawn more attention for racial discrimination lawsuits against his company - http://sports.yahoo.com/nba...
"This also isn’t a new issue for Sterling. Four years ago his company agreed to settle a similar 2003 racial discrimination suit for an undisclosed sum – “one of the largest ever obtained in this type of case,” according to the judge – and a reported $5 million in plaintiff legal fees. Sterling’s attorney Robert Platt said in a statement that the Sterlings “vehemently and unequivocally deny that anyone was discriminated.” The company, Platt claimed, only settled because “the cost of continuing litigation far exceeded the cost of settlement.” Apparently, Sterling is so cheap he won’t even spend money to defend his reputation against a racial discrimination charge. If you’re innocent (and rich), you’d think squashing the possible assumption that you’re a despicable racist is a project worth dropping some cash on, but hey, this is Donald Sterling. You also wouldn’t think someone could run the Clippers like he has."

Antoine Walker entered the NBA’s maximum-contract financial elite in 1999, the year Boston signed him to a six-year, $71 million deal. He was to be the talent and star-presence the Celtics would rebuild around, a big man with a smaller man’s ball-handling skills. And at 22, he would instantly be very rich, with a champion’s wallet even if not yet a champion’s game. As Rick Pitino, then the Celtics president and coach, put it, Walker “will never have to worry about money again in his life.’’ Pitino’s prediction, like so many things about his tenure with the Green, proved way off the mark.

How do you blitz through that much money in 10 years? Even if I bought everything I needed/wanted and traveled, I still could see spending maybe $200K a year.

I keep reading the part on how he spent his money and it's bugging me. First off, his mama, with her indoor pool, should have taught him the danger of 'money friends'. Secondly, I think his accountant should have said, *something*. Thirdly, I think the NBA owes it to these dudes to give him a financial course. They get these boys, some who have never known middle-class privilege, making serious cash and leave them to fend for themselves.

The ABA had the inside track on landing Kareem in 1975, but forgot to actually give him the signed $1M check upfront that they'd already put together as part of their deal.

nice, though reading through the list, I don't see why the cybersquatter can't hold onto "kobestopper.com" ...but good for Chris Bosh.

"Here lies the problem for sports media — the players have control. While preparing for this column, I realized I had two options. I could spend another one thousand words talking about the problems this presents for people like myself who work in this industry or I could organize a roundtable discussion with players on Twitter to weigh in and share their insight. That is, after all, what people want these days, right? So I rounded up several players who are active on Twitter for a lil' discussion."

"Having missed the Kardashian Kids' saga to this point, I went on E! Online, which featured video of the episode in which Kim uses her hand-held to hack into the voice mail of Khloe's (now former) boyfriend, Rashad McCants, the NBA guard now with Houston. Sure enough, McCants has more women on the line. As their affectionate messages come over Kim's speakerphone, Khloe leaves the room in tears. Don't miss the episode in which the Lakers go on their first road trip."

One of the best dunks I've ever seen was on an And1 mixtape - an attempted layup was blocked, and another guy caught the blocked ball in midair and dunked it all in the same leap.
